April and May can be some of the best weather and the crowds are small. I am also now starting to get summer dates booked. Check our calendar to see if dates are available for your vacation. WHY STAY IN A SMALL HOTEL ROOM when you can have all the comforts of home in a beautiful surrounding.
This is a private vacation house on the Smith River and completely furnished with all modern conveniences. Very private on one acre of land. All landscaped by nature with many pine, cedar, fir and madrone trees.
Our vacation home is located within the Smith River National Recreation Area along the banks of this pristine river. Only eight miles to the west is Redwood National and State Parks where some of the tallest redwood trees in the world reside.
Twenty miles west is the Pacific Ocean and the southern entrance to the Oregon coast. Fifty miles east are the Oregon Caves National Monument. We have 150 feet of riverfront property where you can, swim, snorkel, kayak, canoe, raft, fish, or just relax and enjoy the scenery.
If you are into winter steelhead fishing this is the place to be, December thru March. You can catch them in our own back yard and clean/process you fish on our deck cleaning station/sink. We have filet knives, extra freezer ands lots of free advice for the novice fisherman.
If you are in the area come by and check us out. We are right on the waters edge at 600 Gasquet Flat Rd, Gasquet, Ca. Look for the 'BMH LODGE' sign on the pine tree in front yard.

Thats me on the left. I have been fishing the Smith river since 1980 and two buddies and I purchased one acre of land on the Smith in 1989. In 1990 we purchased a new double wide modular unit and placed on this acre. I grew up in the Bay Area and worked 30 years for AT&T. My wife and I met in high school and were married in 1960. I took early retirement in 1991 and moved to Crescent City in 1992. My four kids are grown and we now have eight grand kids. Upon moving here I got into the fishing business, owning a tackle store in Brookings, Or. In 1998 I started guiding for Salmon and Steeelhead on the local rivers, mostly the Smith. Now I am mostly retired except for managing and booking this vacation rental. During the off season garden, travel with 32Ft trailer, fish and visit kids/grand kids.
JERRY HOGAN purchased this house in 1990
This is not like a lot of California. We have the ocean, the giant redwoods, the cleanest and clearest river in the U.S., the Smith of course. Our county of Del Norte has only 25,000 people and no polution.
Stayed Fri. - Tues., Great time! The place worked out well, only comment for improvement would be a touch more dry firewood.
Amazing location to view the river and we really enjoyed it. Had a storm and that was fun to watch the river change. Great fishing and nice warm place. We will likely be back.
What a wonderful, quiet place to relax and unwind! We arrived during an impending storm but that didn't spoil our trip in the least, rather it was so refreshing to experience rain! and to see greenery! and see water flowing in the river! (suffering severe drought in SoCal) The house is comfortable and cozy, has a landline, WiFi and cable TV. The house is supplies with everything we needed for our stay. The road and the surrounding roads were perfect for walking our dogs. There is a deep freezer if you were to catch a boat load of fish and a cleaning sink on the deck. The deck is large and gated so our dogs could go out and bark at the wildlife. The setting is beautiful and we will rent this place again. Thank you, Jerry!
My family rents several vacation homes each year and we all agreed that this house was the best. We had plenty of space and all the basics were provided. It wasn't far to swimming holes and the view from the house and deck was beautiful. Our favorite event was when 3 river otters played in the river for our entertainment. We had a lot of family time and played games, read, watched movies and just enjoyed the surroundings. It was great!
This was my boyfriend and my first time in the area with our dog and it couldn't have been a better experience. It was great for our dog to have a place to run around and he even liked the Smith River. We had an absolute blast! We sat out of the porch, enjoying the scenery and took a short trip to the several beaches and even over the Oregon coast. We also loved being surrounded by the forest. The actual inside of the place was very cozy, well-stocked with utensils and plates and a nice place to sleep. The only thing that was a negative was that there was no a/c. Other than that, it was perfect and will definitely be a place that we intend to stay again!
Location, location, location! Jerry found a piece of heaven. House is homey, clean, and stocked with everything you need. Enjoy the HUGE deck with the every changing landscape. Grill, relax, fish, or watch the game. This is the place. My dogs loved it too. (I should have known Jerry was a great guy...he also has a Golden Retriever) : ) (Bring your own blow dryer)
We had a wonderful week here w/ our son, daughter-in-law and 2 yr old grand daughter. When we were out on an excursion and she got tired, she would say she wanted to go back to "Grandpa's River House". This house has easy access to lots of short walks OR long hikes - your choice. Don't miss Myrtle Creek Trail if you like nature walks. Stoudt Grove is a must-see, and then drive a little beyond to hike on one of the many crossings of Mill Creek Trail. You will probably be all by yourself - we were! The light house at Crescent City is a nice walk at low tide and some beautiful beaches are nearby.
The house is comfy and has plenty of space. You'll spend most of your time in the sunroom section that is all windows, bright even on the 2 rainy days we had. The 2 full baths are very spacious. But the absolute best feature of this rental is the DECK! Great place to be, w/ views of the river and breezes from the water. Plan on eating your evening meal here! Book this rental - you won't be disappointed!
The rental is quiet, clean, relaxing, roomy, and right on the river. It's located near lots of fishing, hiking, boating, and other recreational areas. Wonderful!
