Additional information about rental rates

  • The rental rates include electricity, our very efficient oil central heating and bed linen, but not towels. Many other self catering properties require you to use a meter card or £ coins for electricity which is a nuisance. There is a Sherpa Bus stop on the road at the entrance to the cottage. Public transport information phone numbers are 08706 082608 (Gwynedd) 01286 679 535 (Conway) 01492 574 000.
  • Access to Is-y-Graig Cottage is up a gravel path from the main road. There is one step into the cottage entrance. There are two steps down to the kitchen/bathroom area. There is NO bedroom on the ground floor. The bedrooms are reached by a turned staircase with banisters on one side and solid wall on the other. Most of the doors/doorways are wood contrasted against cream walls, apart from both bathrooms and the twin bedroom. The showers are over the baths, and the baths have grab handles. All light switches are at shoulder height and plugs are at a height of 30cm from the floor (except in the kitchen where they are at countertop level). The TVs, video and DVD all have remote controls. There is a payphone in the entrance hall. Orange mobile network works well in Beddgelert, but the signal is very poor inside the cottage. The patio garden is outside the front door. There are mains connected smoke alarms in the entrance hall, at the top of the stairs and outside the upstairs bathroom.
  • ROOM SIZES. On the ground floor: Entrance hall 13'11'x12'6'. Sitting room 14'6'x11'4'. Kitchen/breakfast room 13'10'x10'7'. Separate utility area, rear porch, and bathroom. On the first floor: Master bedroom 13'9'x 10'7' with a low entrance. (Need to duck if tall). Double bedroom 12'3' x 6'11' (access to double bed on one side plus from bottom of bed only, as bed against wall). Twin bedroom (L shaped)( min 6'10'x 14'10' max) (min 3'8'x 10'3'max)

Further details for this vacation cottage rental in Gwynedd - Snowdonia, United Kingdom

Snowdon paths: The cottage is situated approximately three miles from the Watkin Path and the Rhyd Ddu path up Snowdon. There are many beautiful walks straight out from the cottage, without getting in your car, and numerous others within a short driving distance. Beddgelert forest just north of the village offers pleasant woodland walks and here starts one of the finest forest trails in the whole of Snowdonia, finishing on Snowdon itself. There are numerous climbs throughout the area around Snowdon and the adjacent passes ranging from 'easy' to 'exceptionally severe'. It was in this region that Sir John Hunt's team practiced for their successful ascent of Everest in 1953. The whole of this beautiful region of North Wales is open to the motorist who can drive along largely empty roads through magnificent mountain passes, visiting many of the attractive villages or journey to the sea only a few miles away and travel along miles of unspoilt coastline.

Beddgelert Village: The drive from Capel Curig to Beddgelert is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Beddgelert is a very picturesque village, where the rivers Colwyn and Glaslyn meet. There is an ancient arched bridge in the centre of the village, and many listed old buildings. Beddgelert has won many village in bloom contests over the last ten years including the coveted 'Entente Florale - European Prettiest Village in Bloom'. The area is particularly rich for those interested in flora and fauna. The nimble footed Feral goat can sometimes be seen on the higher slopes, the older males impressive with magnificent horns and shaggy coats. The pine marten, polecat, badger, otter and fox are also to be found. Birds include buzzards, kestrels, ravens, choughs and ring ouzels amongst many others.

Snowdonia: Is-y-Graig has been described by the Wales Tourist Board assessor as an ideal holiday cottage. The cottage has many charming features, including 2 foot thick painted stone walls, beamed ceilings and stable doors. The 845 square miles of Snowdonia cover an area similar to that of the ancient realm of Gwynedd who in the 13th century was powerful enough to be called Prince of Wales. Further west lies the Llyn Peninsula, the earliest inhabited part of Wales, where there is much evidence of prehistoric man. There are also many remains of early Christian churches. Castles abound along the coast and inland, notably at Conwy, Caernarfon and Harlech. Two unique railway systems, the steam operated rack and pinion railway to the top of Snowdon and the narrow gauge Ffestiniog line, offer pleasant alternatives to walking. The Welsh Highland steam train from Portmadog to Caernarfon is now operating to Beddgelert and will be open through to Porthmadog soon.

A lovely, cosy cottage.

Our group spent a delightful week in this very cosy cottage just recently and had a wonderful time.

It is a lovely home - well within reach of local amenities and perfectly located for trips into the mountains of Snowdonia.

We would have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to anybody - it really is a gem.
Owner's Response: Thank you very much, we love it and are happy to share.

We just had a week at Is-y-Graig and really enjoyed ourselves. Plenty of walks and drives around as we know from previous visits to this beutifull village.Loads of rain but this didn't dampen our spirits -although there was rain running down the master bedroom wall probably due to the excesive rainfall. Got nearly everything we needed. The only thing missing was the remote control for the DVD player, which was a problem as we took some interactive DVD games which we were unable to use. A cracking village at any time of the year. We went to celebrate a Birthday so the Christmas tree and decorations were a bit out of place in mid November.
Owner's Response: Thanks for letting me know via this review about the leaking roof. It has now been fixed!

Beautiful Cottage

Review Submitted: April 9, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2008
We stayed in Is-Y-Graig last October with our three young children while exploring the UK by car. This is a beautifully kept cottage from another era that made a great base from which to explore Snowdonia. When we had heavy rain on one of the days, no one complained at the chance to stay "home"! The kitchen has everything. Shops, restaurants and pubs are just around the corner, and there are great family walks within easy reach. We wish we could have stayed longer.
Owner's Response: Thank you very much. Full Sky TV and now Broadband WiFi hopefully help alleviate any boredom on a rainy day.

Our stay at Is-y-graig cottage.......

Review Submitted: April 21, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
We really enjoyed the stay in your cottage, it's a lovely house in a beautiful area. For our family of 5, it was certainly spacious enough, we did not need the third bedroom. The house has a nice cosy feel to it, with good sized rooms, a big kitchen and very efficient heating and wood burning fire. It has a small outside patio area, but just walk outside and you have numerous listed walks just around the village area and another 8 or more listed paths up Mt Snowdon. If you have come for the walking then the location is spot on. You can walk to the start of the Watkin and Rhyd Ddu paths, and the Miners', PYG and Snowdon Ranger paths are within a few miles by bus or car. The village has several pubs and restaurants. If you have children, then a trip to Sygun Copper mine just up the road is worthwhile as is the village italian gelato shop. In the summer, the many streams and rivers would be great to take a plunge. One of the best activities for children is to drive 20 mins away to Morfa Bychan beach next to Porthmadog and let them drive on the beach (make sure people are not sunbathing!) with you controlling the pedals - not sure if it's allowed but they certainly enjoyed it. We'd recommend Is-y-graig cottage to others who are planning a visit to Snowdon and the nearby coast.
