Ka Lani Kai means 'the Heavenly Sea' and it truly is a place that you will remember as sacred, peaceful, and unique. This beautiful island home is nestled among exotic palms and flowering plants and has its own pond (not used for swimming).
The house is one block from the Waiopae Tidepools Marine Conservation District, where you can enjoy some of the most spectacular snorkeling found on the Big Island. Green turtles love this area because of its warm temperatures. From the house, you can hear the waves and smell the clear breeze blowing across the Pacific (cleanest air in the US).
The home is light and airy and has a huge open deck with a built-in BBQ, where you can enjoy a tranquil evening as the sun sets, or sit and gaze at the multitude of stars at night, or enjoy a cup of Kona’s finest in the early morning sunshine.
The home was recently furnished with all new, quality rattan and teak furniture. There are two spacious bedrooms and one bathroom; one bedroom has a Queen bed and the other has two twin beds. There is also a very comfortable Double-sized futon in the Living room. Each room has silent ceiling fans and new windows and screens to enjoy the night breezes and sounds of the ocean. The kitchen is fully equipped with coffee maker, oven/stove, microwave, blender, and cooking utensils. A washer and dryer are provided for your use, as is the satellite TV, VCR/DVD player, telephone (local service only), and linens (including beach towels). We don’t allow smoking inside and we will consider small pets.
The home is located in the private residential community called Vacationland in Kapoho, 30 miles south of Hilo. Kapoho is the sunniest spot with the least amount of rain on the east side of the Big Island. The beautiful Ahalanui Hot Pond is only two miles away, and Volcanoes National Park is approximately 40 minutes away.

Great place, thanks! Our boys, 3 and 11 loved the fish. Like all the attention to style in painting and woodwork. Kapoho Waiopae tidepools and adjoining cove are great, you'll see many beautiful fish. I swam with a huge turtle and an octopus! Hiking out to see the hot lava is spectacular.
(from our guest book)
The house was in a great location just steps away from the tide pools and also a big lagoon with terrific snorkeling. The house itself was very comfortable and nice with a huge deck. We did not use the grill but made good use of the full size washer/dryer.
I stayed with my husband and 3 children ages 5, 5 and 7 at Ka Lani Kai for 4 weeks. We had a wonderful time. The tide pools 2 blocks away are magical. The accommodation is clean and there are lots of towels. The laundry facilities on-site were great for us. The cottage had everything we needed, on-site parking and it was quiet- except for the coqui frogs but they are part of the magic of the place. The Big Island, Puna and Ka Lani Kai are truly unique. Thanks for a wonderful stay - our time at Ka Lani Kai will always be a wonderful memory for our whole family.
Very nice property, close to tide pools yet away from the main flow of traffic. Very quiet and secluded. Comfortable and clean. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Mahalo Nui for making this sweet place in paradise available to us. We truly appreciated all the "extras" provided - and we gently broke in the new blender to make some sorbet with fruits from the farmers markets. We loved eating out on the lanai & watching the stars @ night - saw the biggest shooting star evah! Our first nightly visit to the "Hot Pond" down the road was too cold, but last night was PERFECT...just like we remembered from a few years back. Snorkeling the tidepools is still the high point of our stay/ Watching the tides makes a HUGE difference - fought the current of an incoming tide one afternoon ... and the tide won! ha! We DREAM about the fish from Pahoa Fish Market. Sometimes we get the Ono fish-n-chips and bring leftover back to make into fish salad sandwiches. Grilled BEAUTIFUL ahi steaks! Spent a day on the volcano and stuck around to see it glow... beautiful. Also hiked out on the lava from Kalapana and out to the viewing site... you can see the lava "dots" flowing down the volcano & as it gets darker, see the bursts of glow when the lava meets the sea. The viewing site is a 10min paved walk. Lots of great things to see and do on Mark and Ron's list...but just being HERE still makes everything else icing on the cake. Ooooh - great lunch at Cafe Pesto in Hilo. Don't miss Basically Books in Hilo Town, AHHHMAZING selection of Hawaiian books and maps. Again, Mahalo from our hearts. May all who stay here, "live" here. God bless, The Gilmores.
Love the comforts of this place,,felt at home,,it is so hard to leave,,,snorkeling is so great,,thank you,,we'll be back
This is an AMAZING house at a rate that would make you crazy to pass it up -- so we didn't!!! Boy, were we surprised at how it exceeded our expectations. Everything you read above is accurate...and then some. The owners have it pretty well stocked for those who "eat in" while on vacation, which is a big plus. Most of all, the place is so clean - and there are lots of beautiful geckos to help keep the bug population down. Best of all, it's a short walk down the street to the BEST entry for the Wai Opae tidepools. We snorkeled almost every day -- this area is a natural wonder and the neighbors who live here year round do a great job of protecting it for future generations. The deck at Ka Lani Kai is huge and there are great lounge chairs if sunning is your priority. We ate every meal out on the deck. One night, we saw the biggest shooting star, EVER!! This is a great area for stargazing as most people don't have lots of lights on. You get the serenity of your own natural pond, that rises with the tide and it's full of fish that expect you to feed them with the food provided. If you need internet connection -- you're all hooked up! We don't watch TV on vacation, but we can say that the Hawaiian music channel is a great asset. We just slept in the master bed, but it was comfortable - great linens, gentle breezes and ceiling fans to keep the air moving -- PARADISE! This is our second time in "Vacationland," and once again, thanks to the owners and the property managers, it was like coming HOME. Mahalo Nui Loa for sharing your wonderland for a fantastic week! We tell everyone (including the guys bidding on our move) about Ka Lani Kai and the great people who share it with others.
