Terpsichori Apartments, Kalamaki, Crete

Set back above the coast road on a small private hill with lawn gardens to the rear, these two individual properties, with a total of three 3 bedroom apartments, one 2 bedroom apartment and three 1 bedroom apartments share their own 14 metre fan shaped swimming pool and enjoy an enviable position and superb seaviews. With the sandy beach of Kalamaki no more than 300 metres away and a number of nearby tavernas and small supermarkets, the situation couldn't be more convenient and car hire, although useful, is certainly not essential.

We have featured these properties in our programme almost since the conception of Freelance Holidays in 1984 and over the years they have become firm favourites of many of our customers.

Some traffic noise is audible from the coast road.

Terpsichori Villa, 3 bedrooms

Named after one of the many daughters of Zeus from Greek mythology, this large family villa has been very well furnished and equipped.

From the driveway below the villa, stairs with wrought iron balustrades lead up to a large terrace facing west with simply splendid sea views. From the terrace, the main entrance door and patio doors lead into the spacious and comfortable open plan living room/dining room. At the far end, a breakfast bar separates it from the fitted kitchen with electric cooker, fridge freezer, etc. A second sea view terrace furnished with dining furniture and a purpose built barbecue leads from the kitchen.

To the rear of the villa, the 3 bedrooms each have their own door to the east terrace and lawned gardens, where you can enjoy early morning tea in the sunshine. The twin bedroom and the bedroom with bunk beds, share a shower room, whilst the master bedroom has a double bed and its own en-suite bathroom, which also contains a washing machine.

Five kilometres west of Chania, the small resort of Kalamaki boasts a number of sheltered sandy beaches. Several mini markets as well as numerous tavernas scattered along the beach, which is gently shelving and an ideal venue for the bucket and spade brigade. Although only 10 minutes by bus or taxi to Chania, the countryside is on your doorstep and the pretty little villages of Galatas or Daratsos will give you an authentic taste of rural Crete, especially if you visit one of their congenial local tavernas where you are guaranteed good food and spontaneous atmosphere. Try 'Bigaza' its Turkish cuisine is very tasty.
