Le Parc de la Mer is a modern coastal self contained apartment within 2 minutes walking distance of the golden beaches of the Mediterranean sea. It is very well equipped with a kitchenette/diner containing a fridge, freezer, washing machine, electric oven and hob. The apartment covers a living space of 38sq m. It is newly decorated and is comprised of a main bedroom (double bed) and a smaller second bedroom with bunk beds. The living room has a double sofa bed. Included in the living room are a dining room area, TV/Video/DVD and a CD/Radio/Cassette player. A large terrace with an electric BBQ and dining area provides opportunities for enjoying the ambiance of a sunny Catalan beach holiday. No hidden extras!!!

Barcares is a coastal resort lying between a lagoon and the Gulf of Lion in the Mediterranean offering 4 different districts each with its own style: the Village, the Port, the Grand Plage and the Marine Lake. The apartment is located on the A9 exit Perpignan Nord Junction 41, then exit 14 Grand Plage.

Places to visit: Le Perthus is situated about 30km from Perpignan via Le Boulou, this village is half French half Spanish. It has a great commercial quarter ideal for an enjoyable days shopping. There are nearly 80 shops to explore were the prices are attractive as the taxes are lower.It can be very crowded, but the shops are usually open from 09.00 to 20.00 seven days a week. Also to visit in Le Perthus is the Fort de Bellegarde, it stands as a proud sentinel watching over the Franco-Spanish border. The Fort, a jewel of 17th century military architecture is there just as Vauban created it. You will also be able to experience the panoramic views of the Alberes, the Canigou all at 420m.

Museums: Places to visit: Modern art museum in Ceret-influences of Picasso. Museum of Liege-the making of cork. Museum Place de Verdun-Catalan exhibition of art and popular traditions. Museum of Numismatic-coin displays. Museum Le Rigaud History-exhibitions of birds, animals, minerals & fossils.

Whilst the listing description was accurate with regards to the facilities in the apartment there was too much furniture in a very small space for example the washing machine in the bathroom left virtually no space and the badly placed water heater made using the toilet more of a limbo dance. The property initially looked clean but on closer inspection this was found not to be the case. The oven did not work properly and the hob took an age to get going. The owner was very prompt in replying to our initial enquiry but once the monies had been sent there was a distinct lack of communication, we had to chase the owners for information on how to get into the apartment and as we had not heard by the date of travel we had to arrive 'blind' and to have the owner blame their internet provider and we can only conclude there was also a problem with their telephone over a two week period. We could not recommend this apartment to friends or relatives. The only things to recommend this apartment is that it does accept pets and is two minute walk to the beach and etang.where we enjoyed lots of walks. Being towards the end of the season less than a handful of restaurants and shops were open.

Superbly equipped apartment close to sea

My mother and I stayed in this apartment for a week in May and found it very well-equipped and central. The welcome from Carol was very warm and she provided us with items to make hot drinks on our arrival. The apartment was spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds, nice bed linen and towels. As well as all the items listed on the advertisement, we needn't have taken an iron or a hairdryer, because both were provided. There is loads of hanging space and storage in the apartments, a lovely covered verandah with sliding windows which can be left open to enjoy the morning sunshine over breakfast. Full size oven and fast hob were much appreciated, as was the microwave.

We found the area very quiet and peaceful even in the evenings, and we felt totally secure in the apartment. Designated car parking was included, and Carol was very helpful when we had a problem with our hire car.

We explored all along the coast south of Le Barcares, and went into the Pyrenees several times. We particularly liked Ceret and Collioure, and hope to return to the apartment in the future.

There are rampways available up to the apartment to save having to climb steps, the whole area is well lit, clean and peaceful. A boulangerie, a supermarket and several eating places are all within two minutes walk, as is the seaside promenade which is paved, level and very smooth.

The kitchen equipment was the best we have ever experienced (including a kettle and teapot!) and plenty of crockery and cutlery provided. We really could just have arrived with our clothing for the week. We used the washing machine once during our stay and were able to dry things overnight on the airer (provided) on the verandah.

Highly recommended apartment with excellent access to the surrounding area. The Village at le Barcares has some excellent eating places as well, and there are plenty of good beaches along the coast.

We flew with Ryanair to Beziers from London Luton, and found the 60 km journey from the airport very easy and took less than an hour.
