Lovely Porta del Mar

It is rare that you find anywhere on the internet that is actually more beautiful than it appears on the owner's website, but Porta del Mar is a wonderful find. After a few stressful months we as a family were really ready for a holiday and particularly looking forward to returning to Greece for the first time since our children were born 12 and 9 yrs ago. We wanted them to have a reliably warm beach holiday for the first time and were drawn by the close proximity to the sea, having trailed to the beach in the car for the last few years. Tasos, Pavlina and their children have made their villas so special- we were welcomed but never felt under pressure to do anything we didn't want to. We relaxed immediately, falling into a routine of getting up, swimming before breakfast, in sea a few metres away, then breakfasting on our veranda, then going back to the beach, etc, etc...sometimes we ate in the evening at the great local tavernas, try the pitta sandwiches!, sometimes at the villa with vegetables donated by Tasos from the vegetable garden under our balcony, supplemented by the stall at the top of the road which was a real find, particularly the local olive oil! Our other evenings were memorably spent eating at the villa bar- we had a barbeque that was wonderful,Tasos cooked us sea bream and some local octopus, follwed by Greek dancing with Dimitri- aah, Dimitri, the children loved you!. We also had a pizza evening which, again, doesn't sound anywhere near as magical as it was, as we made our own pizzas, Tasos cooked them in an open air oven and we ate outside, followed by a midnight swim..Tasos and Pavlina work hard to make everything look so simple and easy and it really pays off. Our children loved every minute of the holiday mainly because of all those extra things carefully thought of: the kayak for our use on the beach and the canoe, the sunbeds for us and Tasos checking that no one else from other villas was using them!, the fact that the children could go up and down to the villas on their own because the area is so safe and of course the weather! We are booking to return next year and the thought should keep me going through the winter...thankyou Tasos and Pavlina for a Fab holiday!

What is new for next season? Our motor boat! Promise more boat trips in a very special way! Can’t wait for 2010 season!
