A LITTLE SLICE OF PARADISE - IN PARADISE!

My wife and I stayed here for our 20th Anniversary. All I can say is this is the steal of the Century! I did a lot of searching before settling on this place for out trip. We arrived w/ some trepidation – often places don’t turn out to live up to their billing. We arrived very late and in the rain, so it was nice to be able to pull up under the house to park. We had a little trouble w/ a sticky lock box, but finally got in. We were exhausted so we did a little unpacking, and then hit the sack.
The next morning we woke to a glorious view of the lagoon and the Pacific Ocean beyond. After a leisurely breakfast we lounged around a little, then decided to do a little snorkeling. The water was so clear and the fish were abundant. At that point I was already sold. We stayed for a week, snorkeled EVERY day and saw some beautiful coral, fish, turtles and even a seal. For future guests a word of advice, you need to go and explore ALL the tidal pools, it was half-way through the week before I discovered the most beautiful one. It is off to the left out through the channel and closer to the surf. It is crammed full of incredibly colorful corals – yellows, tans, purples, greens and more.
I’m usually not one for relaxing, I’m more of an adrenaline junkie, but this place was so beautiful I actually enjoyed just hanging around the house – and of course snorkeling!
Also at night, especially if there are clouds, look off to the right in the distance and you can see the glow of one of the active lava craters. One other thing, when in Pahoa here are three gems– the NY Pizza place makes a GREAT pizza, the Pahoa Fish Market (by the Supermarket) makes GREAT fried fish – the Ono was fabulous, and if in town try the Poha Berry Ice Cream at the Museum, scrumdiddlyumptious!
As others have said, if your looking for the glass and brass scene, this ain't it. In fact it's off the beaten track, you have to go to Pahoa for everything, but it's well worth it! If your looking for a wonderful relaxing place to stay - THIS IS IT!!
