My friends and I rented this house for an extended weekend, and could not have been happier with the accomodations and location of this rustic yet charming getaway.
The farmhouse itself is old, but very comfortable and spacious, accomodating 6 of us easily. We took many of our meals at the house using both the outdoor barbeque and the indoor stove. Everything worked as expected, and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could possibly want for cooking and dining.
There is a working fireplace in the living room which we took advantage of during our stay, and there is a firepit on the front lawn which we put to use one night under the stars. There is even a working telescope in the living room which we brought outside to view the craters on the moon.
The house itself is located less than a 10 minute drive from lake Cayuga, and about 20 minutes from the city of Ithaca. If you are familiar with Ithaca and its surrounding landscape and feautures, then you already know how beautiful the area is. The property the farm is on is no exception. We found many winding trails in the rear of the property which eventually led down to Salmon Creek where we had an amazing afternoon adventure enjoying the sights and sounds of the natural environment.
As noted in the desciption, this rental does not offer the distractions of more modern accomodations such as TV reception or Internet access (unless you have a smartphone, and yes, coverage is good). However, these conveniences were not missed in the least since there was plenty to do and see during our stay.
We rented this house to accommodate an extended family when we gathered for a family event in the Ithaca area. We mostly used the house as a place to sleep and socialize. Our group included 6 adults, 2 small children, and 2 dogs. There were facilities to make all happy. The adults enjoyed the comfort and character of the old farmhouse. The children enjoyed the wonderful toys and books in the place. The dogs were happy to have an outside area to relax in while the humans were busy. This house is as advertised - an old farmhouse that does not necessarily have all the modern conveniences. It is not anything like a modern hotel but it sure feels real. We much prefer this sort of atmosphere over a sterile environment.
