Ideal all year round holiday rental for getting away from a stressful life. The villa is built into the hillside and has a wooden veranda, typical of the houses in the area, they are all built of local stone. There is a large terrace where meals can be taken and there is a picnic area in the meadow at the side of the house. On the terrace is a pizza oven and barbecue. There is adequate parking at the property. Downstairs is a spacious dining/kitchen which houses a spolert (wood burning stove) which, apart from heating the house, can be used also used to cook food, but there is a gas hob. An archway leads to the lounge which also has a wood burning fire. TV, video, DVD, radio, cassette player and games are at your disposal.

Monte Prat is located 10 minutes from the village of Forgaria nel Friuli and near the hilltop town of San Daniele famous for its crude ham. Udine is the capital of the province whose once Venetian dominance is evident in the architecture. To the North is the walled village of Venzone totally razed to the ground by the earthquake of 1976 and Bordano where you can visit the House of the Butterflies, one of the largest in Europe. Visit the Val Resia whose people has origins dating back to the 7th century when some Polish nomads wandered into the valley and settled. They still retain ancient customs no longer practised in Poland. To the south of Forgaria lies Spilimbergo whose Mosaic School is one of the finest in Europe, guided tours are available, prebooking is necessary. Further north on the Austrian border lies Tarvisio, Sella Nevea and the Pramollo pass where there is excellent skiing. To the south the beaches of Sabbiadoro and Grado. Something for everyone.

Additional information about rental rates

  • The rental is for the whole house and not part of. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms are at the clients' disposal. There is a middle bedroom where I keep my personal belongings, I would ask clients to respect this.
  • The ski slopes are an hour's drive away at Tarvisio - Sella Nevea, Pontebba - Pramollo Pass, Ravascietto - Zoncolan. Contact owner for details.
  • 20% non-refundable deposit is payable on booking. The balance is payable six weeks before departure, contact owner for details.

    A £150 bond is payable at the time the balance is due. This is refundable on condition the house is left as it was found. A check will be made after your departure.

Activities: There are various activities in the area including archery, mountain biking, para gliding, guided walks, rock climbing, canoing on the river Arzino and many miles of walks on Monte Prat. There is a tourist office down in the village of Forgaria for all information. There is plenty of wild life in the area. The lake of Cornino is in a nature reserve protecting the Griffin. Lots of different species of butterflies, birds including eagles. Deer can be seen in our meadow. The region has an abundance of museums, archaeological sites, castles,

Amenities: There is a bar/restaurant on Monte Prat about 200 metres from the house where one can sample the local cuisine. The specialities of the region are Polenta, Frico, Brovada, Muset and Cjalsons to name but a few. Forgaria has a small supermarket, pharmacy, hairdressers, bank, newsagent, restaurants and bars. There is also a local bus service. We are only a few kilometres from the hilltop town of San Daniele, famous for its crude ham, the ham festival is held in August each year.

We spent a week at Il Bosco during the summer and found it to be well equipped and very central in the region which made day trips easy to lots of places. San Daniele, famous for its ham is a must as too is Venzone, a walled city to the north. There is so much to see in this beautiful alpine area. A place we will visit again.
