The main Italian autostrada -the A1, which runs North/South from Milan to Naples is just 20 minutes drive from La Torre. Bagnoro, the nearest village is just 5 minutes drive away there is a shop/bar and it is open every day. Arezzo, 10 minutes drive away has everything the 21st century traveller could possibly need - banks, buses, taxis, shops, huge supermarkets, trains, restaurants, markets, museums, churches and countless other places of interest. The bathroom is equipped with some of the latest Italian designed fittings which includes a large douche head shower. There is also a shaver point, mirror + mirror lighting and shelving. A hairdryer is supplied. You will be able to enjoy showering in spring Water as our water comes directly from the underground springs in 'our' Mountain, Monte Lignano, which is just to the South of La Torre. These springs have been used and famous since Roman times. In fact, the local village, Bagnoro (Bagno is Italian for Bathroom) was a 'Spa Town' when Arezzo was the third biggest city in Roman Italy around 100-200 AD.

  • il Bacio's exquistitly romantic 'nest' is reached via an old oak staircase complete with hand crafted hand rails. One of the windows is a beautiful piece of antique glass from Venice, from another you can look out from your pillow to the mountains to the East, where you can see the moon rising. The third, smaller window is part of the history of La Torre. For centuries, the farmer's wife would have kept pigeons inside an outside niche and she would have had to reach the eggs from inside the cottage - because the walls are over 1 metre thick. The hand-crafted wicker bed with natural linens adds to the romance and all the original features, chestnut beams, terracotta floors and traditional lighting styles have been used to the full. Locally sourced antique furniture is also used - a 17th century oak chest, a delightful contadini milking stool - around 200 years old and many other especially beautiful artifacts and baskets that we found when we first came to La Torre.

Further details for this vacation cottage rental in Arezzo, Italy

La Torre and the Surrounding Area: La Torre is set on the boundary of a State park and from here there are many wonderful walks (some easy and some a little more demanding) in the woods, along country lanes and even to the top of Monte Lignano where you can see for around 60 miles - South to Lake Trasimeno and Monte Amiata beyond. Cortona - the beautiful setting for 'Under the Tuscan Sun' ( the book and the film) is just 40 minutes away - and it hasn't been spoilt. Siena and Florence - each with a proud and different history are only an hour from La Torre. The Chianti Classico wine area and the timeless Tuscan hill towns of Montacino, Montepulciano, Poppi, Anghiari and San Gimignano are all easy drives for the perfect Tuscan day - touring and tasting! You will not be disappointed!! The St. Francis of Assisi trail (Assisi also easily reached for a day trip), Etruscan historical sites, the birthplaces and locations of many recorded scenes of Michelangelo, Piero della Francesca and Leonardo da Vinci.

Arezzo - Italy's Best Kept Secret: The Arezzo antiques fair held on the first Sunday of every month and the Saturday before in the historic centre of Arezzo. It is a fantastic event - hundreds of stalls with items ranging from Medici fireplaces to lace table clothes - and all between. A great day for buying or browsing! The Giostra del Saracino, a medieval re-enactment, with hundreds of costumed participants, is held in June and September - similar to the Siena Palio but with Jousting not horse racing. Numerous International Music Festivals. Wine Tours. Truffle Hunting. Photographic Fair held twice a year in Arezzo. Finally the fashion designer outlets of Prada, Gucci ,Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo and Valentino and numerous others are all under an hour away by car. The area is also famed for its leather and gold industry. We'll give you the directions.

Walks and Treks for you to Enjoy: La Torre is ideally situated for the walker and the cyclist. Set on the slopes of Monte Lignano the area is criss-crossed with numerous ancient paths and tracks - some dating back to Etruscan tijmes (600-500 BC). The driveway of La Torre was an ancient roadway over the mountain linking Arezzo with Cortona to the South. It would have been used by pilgrims and messengers for hundreds of years. Many would have stopped here to refresh themselves at the nearby spring before going on their way. There is a sign-posted walk which passes right outside La Torre's gate which takes you to the summit of Monte Lignano and from here you can enjoy views stretching for more than 60 miiles. This whole area is a state park and is well served with sign-posted walks for walkers of every level. We have comprehensive maps to ensure your safe return!! True Bliss

John & Isabelle Dublin, Ireland
Review Submitted: August 29, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
One week spent in this corner of heaven felt like a month !!

Il Bacio has everything you could need and leaves you wanting for nothing. We particularly like
the bathroom and the perfectly placed window by the bed, looking out in the morning while lying in
bed never disappointed.

Il Bacio is well positioned with many beautiful towns within a short drive which enabled us to do
late afternoon / evening trips rather than full day trips. Sandra and Paul have a wealth of information on the
area and are happy to share advice and tips.

The afternoon trips allowed us many hours unwinding and relaxing by the pool soaking up the Tuscan
sun and letting our thoughts wander in the complete blissful silence that defines il Bacio's surroundings.
This I think will be our fondest memory of our trip.

The welcome breakfast including a jar of to die for homemade fig jam and a bottle of Prosecco were
a lovely touch and set a perfect tone for the week to follow.

As a previous review mentioned, I would highly recommend a hire car, that is one steep hill up to the house !!

Il Bacio truely is a gem and we will both treasure our memories of it.

John & Isabelle
Owner's Response: Thank you both so much for this and for being such gorgeous guests! We learnt again, that every holiday is different. Your later starts to Siena, San Gimignano etc. worked really well, you got to see these and many other Tuscan gems after the 'normal' day trippers had left. A bonus would be to see these towns without visitors when the locals would come out to chat with their neighbours, eat ice cream and just be.....
Best wishes to you both and again thank you.

A gorgeous week ,staying in Il Bacio.

Hilary and Keith Brighton
Review Submitted: September 27, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The photographs on Sandra and Paul' s website are spot on ,as was there hospitality. The welcome pack and finishing touches, including croissants ,fresh fruit, a chilled bottle of prosecco and flowers was truly appreciated. We're still eating the homemade marmalade !
La Torre is set in beautiful tranquil gardens with wonderful views of the countyside and Arezzo .Il Bacio is small, well designed and furnished in true Tuscan style. Lovely bed linen ,towels etc.
We had the pool to ourselves ,it was cleaned daily and very welcome in the heat .We didn't see our neighbours in La Veduta all week.
The approach to La Torre from the village of Bagnoro is a steep narrow winding road. It is about a 25min walk up from the village.
A great location for visiting Sienna, Arezzo and Cortona..All are a must. A week was not long enough to explore the local area.
Take insect repellant as you will need the windows open at night and it's lovely to sit outside in the evening .
Sandra,Paul and Vas, their black labrador were great hosts. A mine of local information, including valuable restaurant recommendations. They are welcoming but not in the least imposing.
We'd recommend staying at La Torre. It would be ideal for two couples wishing to holiday together but needing their own space .
We hope to return in the near future.
Owner's Response: Many thanks for this Hilary, really glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to seeing you both again next year and if you wanted to be 'greener' you could use, if necessry, the mossie net or insect screens that we have. It was pure luck that pool lovers like yourselves shared your week with guests who were into sightseeing in a big way. We hardly saw them either, they had a long list of things to see!

Tuscan Bliss

Suzanne & Michael Tyne & Wear
Review Submitted: August 20, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We have just returned from a wonderful week in Il Bacio at La Torre. It is a lovely, bijou cottage, perfect for our honeymoon. It is small but perfectly formed, everything you need is at your fingertips.
Sandra and Paul are perfect hosts, warm, welcoming and completely down to earth. They have a wealth of information about Arezzo and plenty of other lovely places nearby.
Car hire is a must, I would not even attempt the walk up from the village! We hired a car from Pisa airport and found Italian roads a breeze.
La Torre is a great base for exploring Tuscany (and beyond!) I recommend visiting Cortona, Sienna... and even Rome if you are feeling energetic!
So many beautiful places to visit or just lounge by the pool, whatever your idea of the perfect break is you can do it from here.

Sandra and Paul, thank you for sharing your little piece of Tuscany with us.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to do this, it is much appreciated. So glad you were able to get so much out of your week at La Torre, and your trip to Rome with your gps friend will certainly go down in the annals of La Torre. You were lucky to not get overwhelmed with traffic in Rome but that was because the Italians had all left for their holidays - with it being the week of Ferragosta. (August Bank Holiday). Driving up to the Colesseum - WOW!
Best wishes

Fantastic Italian honeymoon stay

Kathy and Ben London
Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We couldnt wait to get to Il Bacio after a week's sightseeing in Rome and Florence. We arrived to a friendly welcome from Sandra, Paul and Vasco and discovered a chilled bottle of Prosecco waiting for us in our romantic little cottage. We had grand plans for day trips around Tuscany but the pool and the quiet, beautiful surroundings of Il Bacio proved too wonderful to leave. Sandra and Paul's passion for Italy is infectious (homemade pasta was attempted on return to England!) and their restaurant and day-trip recommendations are spot on. We even miss Esselunga, the nearby supermarket with amazing chocolate croissants!

It was very hot when we were at Il Bacio so its worth bringing mosquito spray so you can have the windows open at night. Aside from the welcome breeze, its wonderful to wake up to the view from the little window by the bed!

Under-appreciated by the Italy guidebooks, the nearby town of Arrezo is superb - nice looking, great shops and even an amazing antiques market. The locals were very friendly and kindly withstood our poor attempts at communicating in Italian.

I would definitely recommend a stay at La Torre and we hope to return ourselves!
Owner's Response: Hi Kathy and Ben
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this review, we much appreciate it and are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Yes, you're right about Arezzo, the guidebooks really dont do it justice. It has all the history and more of Florence and Siena but here's the best bit --- far fewer tourists, so you really get to see the wonderful buildings, architecture, museums and galleries without the crush. For me, Arezzo is the little sister of Florence and Siena - (equidistance from both) but just a bit 'shy' to boast about her qualities.
Kathy, sorry you had some mossies, but I wish I had known because I could have directed you to the mossie net in the cupboard behind your bed. The guests before you had taken it down. Sorry.
Again many thanks and best wishes, Sandra, Paul and Vaz

I Dared to Dream it would be as Good as it Was!

Dillon1 London, UK
Review Submitted: December 1, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
We had a wonderful time here in il Bacio, The hospitality was second to none, everything we needed was provided and we couldn't have wanted for more. Here, we managed to stop the world and get off for a few days. Although when we needed civilisation it was just 10 minutes away. The property was spotless and il Bacio has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. There were a couple of highlights to our stay - the cooking course with Sandra, when we learnt to make so many Tuscan dishes and Vaz, the four legged star of La Torre. We would certainly recommend il Bacio to others looking for a tranquil stay in a beautiful location, yet only minutes away from so many attractions when you are rested enough to enjoy them.
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this lovely review. You both looked so relaxed when you left, unlike when you arrived! Really glad you enjoyed the cooking course and I hope you have been able to impress your family and friends with your new sklls when you have/had your 'Italian evening'. Best wishes
Sandra
