There is so much to see and do in Costa Rica’s “forgotten” Atlantic coast. Whether an organized half or full day guided tour or an adventure on your own, Puerto Viejo offers a wide variety of local area tours and attractions. Whether it is walking along the beach, hiking through the jungle, surfing, snorkeling, swimming, white-water rafting, tours of butterfly and botanical gardens, wildlife sanctuaries, or just taking in the sun on the secluded and pristine beaches, you will surely find something for you.

My very first trip to Costa Rica was on a cruise. The port of call was Limon, and I was so impressed, I thought if I ever retire, Costa Rica would be the place I'd want to call home. When I finally did retire, I moved to Costa Rica and fell in love with the Caribbean coast. I purchased land in Puerto Viejo and eventually built Casa del Zorro. I hope you love the area, and enjoy my home, which I happily share with you.
Tony Waddell purchased this house in 2000
The Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is so rich in diversity with miles of unspoiled and uncrowded beaches. While certainly not remote and isolated, it is refreshing to visit a coastline that is unmarred with high-rise hotels and all-inclusive resorts. The area is stunningly beautiful, and the people are very friendly and helpful.
Staying in a private home is so much better than checking into a hotel that you may not be familiar with. And the house is so close to the beach as well as to the stores, restaurants, and shops. It is literally a 2 minute walk to the beach and a 5 minute walk to the center of town. The owner lives in Costa Rica and the property is professionally managed, providing you with the best service possible.
I urge all guests to leave a comment here. Be honest and constructive. Let others know what you liked. Let me know what you didn't. And as always, if you have any questions, be sure to let me know.
Thank you so much for visiting.

Casa Zorro was just as described and it was everything we could have wanted. The home came equiped with a full kitchen which we used to avoid eating out for every meal to save some money for adventures. Another nice touch was the available beach and shower towels. This allowed us to leave towels home and save some room/weight in our travle bags. The location of the property is great. A short, safe walk to town and a short bike ride to Cocles. I will definitely consider staying at the Casa Zorro on my next return to Puerto Viejo!
Loved this house. Perfect place to stay as close to town and the beach. The cleaning service was really good. Only thing I would recommend would be a security light on the gate as it is very dark. Unfortunately two of our party were robbed just outside the gate which did shake our confidence about walking up and down the lane. However the house itself is very secure and it did not ruin the holiday.
Clean, comfortable, close to town so you can walk everywhere, felt safe and secure, nice privacy. I would definitely stay at the casa Del Zorro again!
Everything about our stay at Casa Zorro was great. Our correspondences with the owner before our vacation were pleasant and informative, and we had all the proper instructions sent well in advance of the trip.
The location of the house was absolutely perfect. It was just outside of town and the beach (no more than a few minutes walk), and everything in/on the property was working and as described.
We had an incredible time at Casa Zorro and I would recommend this house for anyone looking for a nice stay in Puerto Viejo.
After being scammed on another property in Cocles (called the Gingerbread House - beware of it!), we contacted Tony for a last second accommodation and he replied to us within hours and just totally took care of us! This home is great! Comfortable and spacious with many amenities that made our 3 kids feel relaxed and secure like sofas, full kitchen and cable TV. The location is really wonderful. Could not be more safe and within walking to everywhere you need. Thank God for you Tony and for Casa Zorro!
A beautiful house with everything we needed. The house was spacious and clean. I loved the funky mural in the master bedroom!
Location was also ideal as its close to the center of town but off the main road. I would definitely stay here again!
