Topi Villa stands in a secure gated compound within a larger secure development. There is a half acre of mature tropical garden with a private swimming pool and poolside bar. There is a large verandah. The accommodation comprises two double bedrooms both with en suite facilities. Each of the bedrooms has a day bed that is suitable for a child to sleep on, if parents prefer their child to be in their room. There is also a double bed, two single beds and a lounge area in the upper gallery. The villa will sleep 6 adults plus 2 children. All the rooms remain relatively cool in the hottest weather due to the thatched roof and the sea breezes. Topi Villa offers privacy yet is close to the shops and hotels of Diani beach. The beach is a short walk from the villa.

Topi Villa is located 30kms south of Mombasa, approximately one and half hours by taxi from the airport (can be arranged on confirmation of booking). Galu beach is a leisurely 7 -10 minutes along a path, taking you to a white coral sand beach with a live coral reef 400m offshore. Galu Beach is a continuation of Diani Beach, the main tourist destination on the coast south of Mombasa. The Galu and Diani beach tourist areas have a good choice of restaurants and beach bars and many of the major hotels welcome non-resident diners. The National Parks of Tsavo East and West are a 3 hour drive. The Shimba Hills park and elephant sanctuary are a 1 hour drive from the villa. Mombasa 'old town' (a heritage site) and Fort Jesus are 45 minutes by car, journey time depending on luck with the Likoni ferry.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Rates quoted for up to 6 persons. Any additional guests will be charged £10 per night. Deposit required to secure reservation; let is subject to contract, Balance paid prior to arrival.

    Rates include advice on local services, safaris, facilities and do's and don't of life on the Kenya coast.
    An initial supermarket shop and taxi to meet clients at Mombasa airport can be arranged in advance but will be charged to the guest's account.
  • Subject to published reservations and prospective bookings, Topi Villa is available to Kenyan residents wishing to take a short break at the coast. Please contact the owners.
  • Our cook works from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 1pm on a Saturday and on a Sunday he is off. If you require him to stay on in the evenings or to work extra on a Saturday and Sunday the over time is to be paid by the Client. This is at a local rate of Ksh250 per hour (at current exchange rate £2.25) This is to be paid direct to staff

  • All beds have there own fitted mosquito nets and free standing fans are provided in each room. The bedrooms remain relatively cool thanks to the thatched roof and the coastal breezes that maintain inside temperature between 25 and 29 degrees centigrade at the hottest time of the year. The sofa in the main bedroom could serve as a bed for a young child.

Notes: Life in the tropics is centred around the veranda and pool. The veranda has dining and a lounge areas. The poolside has sunbeds and the pool is large enough to swim. Both veranda and pool are assured of privacy as the garden is not overlooked from neighbouring properties. There are two staff; one is a cook/housekeeper, the second looks after the pool and garden. The cook / housekeeper will cook your food for breakfast and lunch. He is happy to cook an occasional evening meal if this is arranged in advance and the guests accept the responsibility to pay daily overtime.

Summary: Topi Villa offers a combination of leisurely poolside living and an opportunity to visit Kenya's national parks for game viewing. A holiday at the coast can comfortably include a 2 - 4 day visit to the Tsavo game parks. The National Parks of Tsavo East and West are a 3 hour drive. For the more adventurous, there are excursions and safaris to the Maasai Mara (served daily by a 2 hour flight by light aircraft). Closer to your temporary home there is the Shimba Hills National Park and elephant sanctuary within 1 hours drive. Galu beach is probably the cleanest and less crowded of the beaches along the coast. There are 7 kilometers of white coral sand at Galu and Diani. From Diani beach, arrange scuba diving, deep sea fishing, dhow trips and most water sports. Leisure Lodge Club (an 18 hole, par 72 course) is just 10 minutes away by car and holiday makers are welcomed.

The villa is beautifully decorated, clean and well maintained. It was a real pleasure to spend our week there. The location is peaceful and the beach is just a 10 minute walk away. Didn't really sample the nightlife but did notice disco's and bars. You can easily get to larger towns by taxi or matutu if you want to sample some local transport! There are quite a few restaurants to eat out in the evenings but the house steward is such a good cook we preferred to pay him overtime to do our evening meal a few nights - he should be in a michelin restaurant. He is an absolute treasure and looks after you so well.
Day visits can be easily arranged to Tsavo, Shimba, Shimoni, Mombasa. The owners are really helpful in supplying information and making arrangements for your arrival in the way of an initial food shop/taxi's etc. The services they offer are excellent and you couldn't ask for better.
We will definitley go again and we would also recommend this beautiful villa to friends.
