This lovely stone-built farmhouse dates from the 19th Century and forms part of a working farm, built on the site of a Roman encampment.

The two storey, fully centrally heated property has large rooms providing comfortable, spacious accommodation. The big farmhouse kitchen is well equipped for large family dinners and the dining area provides a more formal setting. The lounge has a log burning stove for extra cosiness in the evenings and three sofas for relaxing. Satellite TV is included.

The charming, good sized rooms easily accommodate 5 adults (or 6, including children) and there is a family bathroom up-stairs and a shower-room/toilet downstairs.

Kirkhouse Farmhouse is surrounded by beautiful Scottish countryside only 30 miles from Edinburgh on the edge of the hamlet of Dolphinton - between West Linton, one of the most beautiful villages in Scotland - and Biggar, a small market town full of history and character. A large private garden leads directly onto the estate, which offers 300 acres of mixed woodland, heather hillside, wildlife habitat, picturesque streams and farmland grazing - a miniature of the Scottish Borders landscape.

The location is ideal for visiting central Scotland and guests day-trip to the Borders, the Dumfries coast, Glasgow, Edinburgh and up to Stirling and St Andrews.

Carbon Offsetting: White Hill Estate contains a wide variety of woodland and we are happy to discuss dedicated tree planting to offset the impact of our guests' travel.

Horse Accommodation: White Hill is home to several horses, and those wishing to bring their own horse with them to enjoy quality hacking with spectacular views are very welcome. 20 x 40 m outdoor, all weather arena. Please contact us to discuss grazing and loose box arrangements. *Full groom's service also available*.

Falconry: For those with their own hawk or falcon, the estate provides a rich and varied hunting landscape. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

This is the main farmhouse PLUS an annexe. The shepherd's croft is accessed direct from the main farmhouse, providing an extra, bright and very large double bedroom with the en-suite shower-room/toilet on the ground floor. The annexe is not self contained and is rented out only with the farmhouse, allowing the property to accommodate 7 (using the larger futon in the study area) or 8 (using 2 single futons instead).

About Deborah Benson

We are both business people and have also become farmers. We keep and train horses and we love living in such a wonderful rural setting, but with very easy access to the city for work and getting a 'cultural fix' every now and then.

Why Deborah Benson chose Scottish Borders

We first visited this farm on one of the worst winter's days in ages. We walked up the hill in a strong wind and horizontal sleet - we came back down the hill totally exhilarated and in awe of the beautiful setting. Since we fell in love with the place in the worst of weathers, we realized that it would be amazing in good weather and it is.

There is something special about White Hill. Guests call it 'magical'. Being here is relaxing, calming and fun. Many of our guests come back again and again and think of it as their special retreat to unwind from busy lives.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We do not allow pesticide on our land, so there is abundant wild-life. Its an ideal location for nature lovers, ecologists and for children to explore and learn about the natural world.

Comfortable cottage holiday in the Borders

We were delighted to bring in the New Year (quietly) in this very comfortable rural "get-away". We have returned here on several occasions during recent years. The farmhouse is as comfortable and the owners as welcoming as ever. This was the first time we had also used the extra downstairs bedroom, with en suite toilet and shower, and the extra space was much appreciated. We have already booked our next visit!

Fabulous Farmhouse in great Location

We were a group of 7 staying at the Kirkhouse Farmhouse over New Year and would highly recommend visiting this lovely farmhouse!
The owners Deberah and Sam were extremely helpful from our initial booking enquiries right through to our stay, providing us with lots of information regarding local ammenities and walks which allowed us to make the most of our stay!
The Farmhouse itself is very spacious and extremely well maintained, with everything you would be looking for in a rental property such as dvd player, dishwasher etc. The location is perfect and we particularly enjoyed going for walks and taking in the magnificant scenery on the farmhouse's doorstep.
It was the perfect way to bring in 2012!

The farmhouse is on the edge of the Scottish Borders with easy access to the region's picturesque towns, villages, and sights - including Rosslyn Chapel. The nearby village of West Linton and the town of Biggar are just 10 minutes drive away and offer a full range of local amenities including some excellent restaurants.

Scotland's two arterial motorways, the M74 and the M8 are both less than 30 minutes away, and Kirkhouse provides a quiet base from which to explore the many attractions of central and southern Scotland.

Other Activities: Guests' horses accepted, by separate agreement. Bikes not provided for cycling activities.

Golf: Visits to local golf courses by prior arrangement.

Ski: Dry ski slope c. 30 mins drive away.

The croft and farmhouse are joined and form one house, providing a great venue for family holidays, friends gathering for Christmas and suchlike holidays.

A great location for walking with wonderful hilly scenery. The ground floor bedroom with en-suite in the croft is suitable for the elderly but as there are a few low steps, the home is not suitable for wheelchair users. Horses and dogs by arrangement with owners. Local salon provides hair styling, massage therapies and beauty treatments. Good local restaurants. Please book salon or restaurants in advance through the farmhouse owners.
