It's a great house, and you will enjoy your Tahoe time here.
We are avid snow and water skiers. We love the Tahoe area and our home there. We hope you will enjoy your time there as much as we do! Sometimes we go up just for the really fresh air and a lot less people than town.
You will enjoy the beach and lake and large lawn areas in our yard in summer as well as all the great snow in winter.
Spring and Fall mean no crowds and quiet, peaceful rest and relaxation.
Kathy or Carol purchased this house in 2005
We purchased this home because of the location, being an easy short walk to the lake. It's fun to cross country ski along the lake in winter and swim in the warm shallow water near the beach in the summer. We also picked it for proximity to Northstar where we were purchasing season passes. I also liked how 'funky' the house is. I didn't realize that most Tahoe cabins were built as one bedroom summer cottages and then people just kept adding on to them. The house has a lot of charm and is a really comfortable house and large yard for families and their doggie.
The unique benefit to our house is that it is really well stocked and comfortable with everything you need. There are down comforters, and lots of towels, and a well stocked kitchen. The house has WiFi and cable and 2 TV's.
We have rented this home twice for a family summer vacation. It is a great house for multiple families and especially great for families with teenagers!!! The yard is great, wonderful spa and the fire pit is great for the evenings. I found the information we were given upon arrival was very accurate and helpful. Easy walk to the beach and drive to several mountain biking destinations. We will definitely be back again.
The location of the house was great and the spa was nice but inside the house was dirty and run down (mold on shower door, no lights that worked in master bath, 2 holes in walls, missing floor board, etc.) There was also old beds and other trash thrown outside in the driveway area. We contacted the owner the day we returned from our trip to advise her of the conditions. We requested 1/2 of our money returned. We sent 3 pages of photos showing filth and problems. She has not refunded any money. We have never had a bad experience using VRBO before. We use it about once a year for vacations but after this experience, we will be more careful.
We had another great stay at the Steelhead home, and I can't say much more than I did via last summer's review. We will be back for a week next summer and are counting the days.
OK, so we stayed at the house from Friday August 5th to Tuesday August 9th, and we already want to go back. My family and I try to go up to Tahoe twice a year, but haven't been able to for the last few due to finances, etc. Hence, this summer trip is our 1 vacation this year.
We have stayed in newer homes, but I can't say enough about this rental. It's cozy, clean and extremely affordable. The location is right behind King's Beach, which is where we spent 3 of the 4 days on the lake. It's 10 minutes from Tahoe City, which is great, because Saturday was our day down the Truckee River, with the rafts. The other 3 days, my son and I were able to walk our Paradise Lounge 4 person raft right down the path between the Java Hut and Steamer's, which was very convenient. The kids were able to rent Sea-Do's and para-sail right there as well. Also, it's 5 minutes from the state line (Casino's).
There are 2 other key features that this home provided to us; one is that it's pet friendly, so we were able to bring our 2 dachshund's. The fenced in yard allowed them to run around and not be on us the entire time we were at the house. Oh, and I can't forget to mention the hot tub. Normally, it's very tough to find a home that has both of these amenities, and if you do, the nightly rate usually reflects that.
I've already informed the owner that we will be renting the house again, which will probably be in the spring (Feb. or March). If that doesn't happen, we're renting it out for a week next August. It's really important for us to try and build memories with our friends and family, and the Steelhead home will hopefully be a part of those for years to come.
We just got back and rented the house for a weekend of mackinaw fishing. The location was excellent and the house itself has what we needed for the time we spent there. Property description was accurate and everything at the house worked.
We stayed here and it was a great budget rental. You get what you pay for it.The location can't be beat. However, there are a few things that it is lacking...lock on hot tub, not a kid friendly house as the stairwell has no railing on one side and is open to the floor below. One of the bedrooms had a considerable amount of mold in it,as well as the upstairs bathroom. The kitchen was missing a few everyday items, and the small kitchen appliances were old and didn't work very well (toaster/coffee maker). The front door will only stay shut if you use the deadbolt. We found this out one night as a BEAR came into the front door! I've notified the owner, but not heard back. Also, the bear proof garbage bin doesn't work too well as we had the bears get into our garbage multiple times during our stay. We absolutely love Lake Tahoe and would definately go back. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this house. Excellent value and has lots of bedrooms. I don't feel that the property was very well maintained there were numerous things that were broken and neglected. The house could be really amazing, but it needs a bit of tlc.If you are looking for a budget house with a good location and aren't too picky then this is a good rental for you.
