Prior to my move to St. Simons Island in 1986, I never realized how beautiful the area was and was surprised how different coastal Ga was from my preconceived ideas. Many people don't realize there are quite a few Islands off the coast of Ga. And quite beautiful! The people are very friendly and the area is very rich in culture and history and surrounded by the beautiful Golden Marshes, hence the name 'The Golden Isles'. I owned and operated an income tax preparation business in Brunswick, Ga. since 1986 and sold it in 1998. I have lived in Ft. Lauderdale, the Florida Keys and now I currently live in Hendersonville, NC. I look forward to my return visits to St. Simons Island.
Suzanne Jackson purchased this condo in 2003
I chose to keep my condo and convert it to a vacation rental because I love St. Simons Island and want to always have the opportunity to return to my place inbetween rentals.
St. Simons Island has remained quaint, not heavily commercialized. There are no high rises. There are lots of oak trees with spanish moss swaying with the wind. The lighthouse is attractive and has a great view from the top if you are willing to climb the staircase all the way up. Fort Frederica has the story of General Oglethorpe and the town of Frederica and how he won the battle at Bloody Marsh and saved Geogia from being taken by the Spanish. Kayaking with the tide through the Marsh area and observing the wildlife is a very peaceful, enjoyable experience. The beaches are wide at low tide and just Beautiful! Bike riding directly on the beach is possible where the sand is firm enough. It is also very enjoyable riding on the bike paths throughout both St. Simons Island, Jekyl Island and Cumberland Island. Cumberland Island is acessible by ferry and has it's own interesting history and unique beauty. For other day trips, it is less than a 1 1/2 hour drive from the condo to either downtown Savannah, Ga., or Jacksonville, Fl. There are local Shrimpers right there at both St. Simons Island and Darien, Ga. bringinging in some of the best tasting Shrimp in the world called 'Georgia White Shrimp'. The shrimp can be purchased directly from the shrimpers or local seafood markets or offered on some menus at the local restaurants. If you love the outdoors, there is plenty to do including scuba diving, golfing, biking, kyaking, exploring, shelling, boating, fishing, shrimping, shopping, etc. St. Simons Island also offers good restaurants and live music at several pubs or coffee houses. And there are often food, art and music festivals nearby.
Enjoyed our Feb. 2014 stay very much. The condo was as advertised in the vrbo posting and the owner provided a great deal of information on local sites, activities & shops as well as great restaurant reviews. Skiff Landing's central location makes it easy to reach all that SSI has to offer. We would not hesitate to return for another stay.
Last Summer we rented this condo for the month of June and it was a great experience. The owner was always very attentive and cooperative to our needs. We also loved the location for it was an easy drive to anywhere on the island.
My husband and I stayed here for the month of March, 2013. We enjoyed Saint Simon's Island very much. The history of the area, the huge old live oaks, the beautiful beaches, the food and the unique little shops were great! Suzanne was very helpful by recommending things to do and where to eat. Being within walking distance to the Redfern Village was great and a good location. Viewing the marsh and feeding the birds was a plus. Unfortunately this year was cooler than normal so we were unable to use the outdoor pool.
The unit was large with hardwood floors, comfortable and nicely decorated.
Downtown Pier Village and beaches are close by. Brunswick and Jekyll Island are a short drive over
Everything I needed was already there. Good restaurants and shopping were within walking distance. Loved the pool. Can't wait to go back.
I highly recommend this condo! I lived in the condo this past summer for two months with a few of my friends and we had the best time! It is in the perfect location on St. Simons and provides a welcoming atmosphere. The space in the condo is the perfect amount for anyone that is looking for a beach get away! I loved living in this condo and will always remember the memories we were able to make there!
We stayed in this condo for a month and found it to be in good physical shape, quiet and conveniently located. "Downtown" and beaches are a short drive away. Because of the location, many stores and restaurants are an easy walk. The pool is clean and well maintained, as is the entire complex. The owner, Suzanne, is friendly and accomidating.
There is a zoo in Jacksonville, Fl, approx 1 hour and 15 minutes away. Jekyll Island, Cumberland Island & Sapelo Island are nearby & rich in culture.
