The beautiful town of Tavira: When staying in this accommodation a visit to the beautiful town of Tavira is essential! You will not fail to be enthralled by its unspoiled charm, character and tranquility. As you wander along the cobbled streets, you'll see an abundance of history dating as far back as 2000BC. A Roman bridge links the 2 parts of the town across the River Gilao, its sides decorated with traditional old bars and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a peaceful drink or meal. Horse drawn carriages and a small train operate around the town and are perfect for sightseeing and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The many churches (37 in total!), the town castle and the typical fisherman's harbour leading to the River Formosa Natural Park are all places to visit, along with the wonderful daily market selling fresh home grown produce. Tavira Island and its wonderful beach is accessible by ferry boat from the town and offers excellent facilities with a wonderful holiday atmosphere.
Beaches: The Algarve is famous for its wonderful sandy shores and Manta Rota is no exception approximately 7 km away where you will find beautiful white sands, rolling sea, sunbeds for hire and several snack bars. This beach is long and expansive offering its visitors great walking territory between other resorts right through to Monte Gordo! Another recommendation that we have would be Tavira Island (‘Ilha de Tavira’) is accessed by small ferry boat from the town harbour and boasts a huge range of facilities and a wonderful holiday atmosphere. Great fun day out, especially for the kids.
Other things to see and do: .…….by travelling a little further afield there are a good range of things to do to suit all tastes. For nature lovers there are forest walks, cruises along the River Guadiana or natures trails along the Ria Formosa Reserve where bird watching is in abundance! By travelling towards the West there are some excellent shopping centres in Faro and Ghia as well as the famous Water Parks and Zoo Marine (wonderful for children), all easily reached by car (around 45 minutes) or by day trip coach. From this property it is easy to take a day trip to Spain. The lovely border town of Ayamonte is not far by car, and once there you can sample the delights of another country, including wine, tapas and excellent shopping. Or you can travel by car, local bus or train to Vila Real de Santo Antonio and from there take the 15 minute ferry crossing to Ayamonte. For the more adventurous the vibrant city of Seville is approx 170km away. For budding historians the Castle at Castro Marim is worth a look.
We had a fantastic holiday based at this Vila. Smart Villa staff were very helpful polite and professional while dealing with us during are stay. There advice on local restaurants and towns was extremely helpful.
While this Vila may appear to be remote, it was only a 10 minute drive from Manta Rota which is on the coast and has a good beach. We spent a significant amount of time at Cabanas (30 minutes) and also travelled 45 -60 minutes to Ayamonte which is across the border in Spain.
Our party consisted of 4 adults and a 3 year old child and we all had a fantastic time, and used it not only as a base but as a home away from home.
I would not hesitate to recommend this Vila to other family groups or couples looking for a relaxing and intimate holiday.
A stunning villa in a stunning location; tranquil yet within easy access of main roads and Tavira. This is a place to go for total relaxation, peace and quiet.
The villa itself did not disappoint. All descriptions given were accurate with one rather large exception. The only proper air-conditioning is in the master bedroom and in August when we visited you definitely need it in all bedrooms, especially as we had young children and did not want to leave windows open downstairs. I feel this should be made clear in the description as mobile air-con units do not do the job!
Otherwise we were happy. The villa was modern, well-equipped and clean. There were a couple of minor things that needed sorting but the agent was superb and any problems were swiftly put right.
Tavira itself is lovely. We would definitely come again!
Although not totally isolated this beautiful villa really does provide privacy and seclusion.
The views from the terrace of the mountain scenery are fabulous and you could bask in the sun until very late in the evening at the time we were there in June.
We spent many an evening with the barbeque fired up, music playing as loudly as we liked having our own private pool party and gazing at the stars.
The villa lived up to all our expectations and provided the kind of get away from it all that we were looking for. We returned home feeling totally refreshed and reinvigorated.
Even though rural it was a brilliant base for the eastern Algarve. Tavira (a great place to visit)is only 15 minutes or so by car. Beaches only 10 minutes. The new Monte Rei Golf course is less than 5 minutes by car, apparently rated as the best euorpean course built in the last 20 years.
The surrounding area is lovely and worth a drive around.
Rachel will meet you to show you round and she has plenty of advice to offer that we found really useful. Their policy is to leave you to it but Rachel is only a call away.
We have stayed in Villas in the Algarve on two previous occasions and this villa and the experience was head and shoulders above the others.
Casa De Monte is a stunning villa, the countryside that surrounds it is beautiful. It is very secluded but not totally isolated as you can see local residents properties in the distance If you are looking for peace it is perfect. there is so much space for you to explore, you hear some fascinating birdsong. The property is exactly as it appears in the advert. It is as clean and as high quality as the photo's show. The linen is of a very high standard. The pool and patio is a very nice quality. You do need someone to meet you to show you the way to it, as it would be exceptionally hard to find yourself, but once you know its not a problem. There is a great beach at Manta Rota. We were given excellent customer service by very pleasant people and any problems we had were sorted out fast and efficiently .We would love to visit the villa again and would defffinately recommend it to a friend. Just one thing, We would advise you to take your own DVD's to watch
Champana is a small village within the hills district of Tavira and Vila Nova de Cacela. Although not totally isolated, the villa is in a tranquil setting where car hire is essential to reach the nearest amenities a short drive away. Approximately 1.5kms away from the villa you'll find 'Casa de Pasto Fernandes' - a good quality Portuguese Restaurant serving fish and meat. For a greater choice of restaurants, shops and bars, the town of Vila Nova de Cacela is only 6kms South and offers greater facilities including a supermarkets, bus stops, train station and a bank. It should be noted that there is little evidence of tourism - this is a quiet location with friendly locals and reasonable prices! This location is perfect for those who desire, uninterrupted peace, no passing traffic and wonderful mountain scenery.
Other Activities: Hill Jeep safaris, River Cruises, in house beauty treatments
Golf: The Algarve has certainly become the golfers haven. With over 30 courses and more coming, there is an abundance of choice for any level of player. Players can choose from Monte Rei, Benamor, Castro Marim, Quinta de Cima, Quinta da Ria, Quinta do Vale and Costa Esuri. The villa is located a mere 2kms away from the spectaular Monte Rei course with all other courses being within a 20km driving radius - the furthest being just across the Spanish border.
