Komarna Vacation Rental apartment: Komarna, near Klek

This apartment really is a great place to stay. We found it impecabbly clean and it was newer and larger than we were expecting. The main balcony which can be accessed from the living room and master bedroom is huge and the view is just stunning. I was surprised to see there were three balconies in total with a second balcony off the master bedroom and another from the kitchen. It was also very pleasing to see that there was seperately remote controlled air conditioning in each bedroom as well as the living room. The shower was lovely and powerful and it was really useful to have a second low down fixing point for the shower head as our children are still young.

Komarna is a great place to use as a base and we went out every day to some stunning locations and them came back and swam/played in the sea here. The supermarket, bakery & restaurant are literally on your doorstep and all the staff are very friendly.

The cost of living is cheaper than it is in England and this is the first holiday I have ever come home with money. Some things are similar, fuel was 99p per litre and beer, bread and cheese is all similar. Dining out we found is around 20% cheaper than at home, a good quality ice cream in a cone anywhere was normally only 60p and a 7" cooked pizza from the bakery was only 88p. You can also hire a motorised boat which is moored up in front of the apartment for around £40. This I would highly recommend as a 15 minute trip up the coastline takes you to the a bay with a cave that was made for the former Yugoslavian navy to hide their craft. We also then crossed the sea to one of the several uninhabited islands that you can see from your balcony. Depending on the current this takes 20-30 minutes. You should be told what time of day the sea is choppy and when it is flat so take heed of that information and you will have an amazing day.

The two other must see places (apart from the normal cities/towns) are Mali Stom castle and Smrdan Grad. Views which were astonishing.

If you are on a budget fly to Zadar with Ryanair, but it is a 4 hour drive away. Four of us in August cost £310 return from Standsted. My mum visited us for 3 nights and flew to Dubrovnik and paid £320 return with BA. You can take 23kgs luggage and fly at good times with BA. You only get 15kg luggage and arrive at 8.30pm with Ryanair, but save over £900 with a family of four, so do your research.

I couldn't recommend this apartment higher. Book it now!

It has to be said that the terrace is huge and has a fantastic view not just of the sea but also of islands and the peninsula making it suberb at sunset! The appartment was bigger than we expected, very clean. Prob already in the owners plans but a DVD player and a microwave would be useful as a future addition. All the windows have shutters and there is air con in every room. It is 50 steps down to water front, 40 steps to pool and 10 min walk to the nearest beach with very clear water (view spoilt slightly by constructions works for bridge but only disturbing the first time you see it..didn't see any work being done on it though?!). The reception is opposite, the shop is opposite, the restaurant is opposite, the bakery is opposite, the "grockle" shop is opposite and the car parking space is opposite (though we were glad to have small car for this!!) Has the advantages of a resort for ease of evrything without being a "resort" The staff at the Villa Billi that look after the place were very nice. The owner of the appartment answered all our messages promptly and offered additional information. The appartment was really perfect. As for the village: very child friendly. The bar had ongoing loud music so we were glad to be at the top away from it. The restaurant area was sometimes noisy as live music on Sundays and Thursdays but this is perhaps just in July and August. There was some noise also from neighbouring terraces mainly on weekends when the locals arrive maybe? So not quite the quiet, sleepy village it sounds but nothing stopped us loving it and probably outside the main J & A season it IS very quiet. For families: we chilled out one day (pool/beach/fishing) and visited the next, as kids 4 and 5, but still managed to do the whole Penisula (Duba and Divna beaches wow nobody there, Zulijana sand and shallow and quaint...!), Mljet Island (amazing and easily reachable - a day not enough though!). Korcula town: gorgeous. Kravica (?) waterfalls beautiful great on a scorching day (I left written instructions in the drawer for how to get there!), Ston lovely and good for kids. PS Big Tip! Basically wherever you go on a day trip make sure you have swimstuff and little shoes with you even if you do not expect to need them - as we really did just jump in the sea three times a day wherever we were city, town or country!

Komarna is an excellent base for exploring. Facilities in the resort are good. The apartment is very comfortable. The view from the balcony is stunning. Highly recommended.
