A Wonderful Holiday!

4 Tired Mouse-keteers Camden, Arkansas
Review Submitted: July 22, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Pallas Lodge was fantastic! The pictures and descriptions don't do it justice . . the home was very comfortable and spacious and extremely clean. Pat and Kay have thought of everything. There were 3 living areas (main living area with fireplace, the sunroom-surrounded by windows with lots of light and gorgeous scenery, and an upstairs loft get-away - off of the 3rd bedroom. It was a wonderful get-away . . very quiet and very peaceful. We drove all over southwest Ireland during our stay at Pallas Lodge (Pat had given us great information and maps), but the best of SW Ireland was the Ring of Beara - which was only just a few kilometers from the house! The tour books all tout the Ring of Kerry - which was very nice - but did not compare to the Ring of Beara. Besides the wide variety of scenery, there were no buses to contend with on those small roads. There were many places to hike and explore. We saw stone circles, castles, and majestic scenery. The many people we met were absolutely charming and very helpful. Our favorite towns were Castletownbere and Kenmare. We ate at family-owned pubs, listened to live traditional music, and experienced "craic"! The town of Ardgroom has a one-stop shop, Harrington's, for all your needs, including internet service. I would stay here again and again and would definitely recommend Pallas Lodge to anyone wanting to stay in SW Ireland - you must have a car to make the most of the area. Killharney National Park is less than an hour away and is also a jewel. My Mom, my Aunt and I are very happy that we spent the majority of our vacation time in the Cork/Kerry areas - it was the best of the best! And Pallas Lodge was an extremely comfortable place to begin and end our days. Orginally, our vacation plans were to see and do as much as we could with our time in Ireland . . but many mornings as we drank our coffee and watched Ardgroom bay and the sheep, cattle and bunnies graze around the cottage, we found ourselves pleasantly relaxed and willing to throw out our pre-planned iternaries for a slower, more enjoyable pace and really experience Ireland. Thank you.

Extremely nice holiday home

Review Submitted: May 30, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Stay in this house if you get the chance!! I would recommend this place to anyone interested in staying in the West of Ireland as it was perfect for our vacation to West Cork. It is as described and is actually nicer in person than in the pictures. It is in a very pastoral setting right on the scenic "Ring of Beara" and only half an hour's drive from the start of the "Ring of Kerry." On beautiful days it is private enough to open up the windows and enjoy the fresh sea breezes all day without a need for anything more.

If you get restless, there is a nice little village with a general store, internet access, and a cozy little pub less than a couple miles away. There is also some outstanding hiking in the area with plenty of ancient stones and historic sites to explore. We weren't very adventurous athletically, but I'd bet in an outdoors like the Beara you could find plenty to keep yourself active as well, just ask the owners who are knowledgeable about the area and happy to help.

The owners were also incredibly hospitable to us. We had difficulty getting to the house on the first day since most car rentals were booked for a busy tourist weekend, but the owner waited for us until very late and even had a fire going when we got there. We couldn't have been more relieved and grateful!

P.S. Für Hochzeitsreisende: Achtung, alle Betten quietschen. :)

Review Submitted: July 7, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
