CASA BELLA SAN MIGUEL, AS SEEN IN NY TIMES, 4 BR, BEAUTIFUL!

San Miguel de Allende Villa Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Library, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Casa Bella San Miguel was recently celebrated by the 'Great Homes' section of the New York Times (see the link to owner's website below). The owner would like to have you enjoy her love of San Miguel by sharing this lovely home when she's away. Why don't you come and see what the good life is all about!!

This elegant, yet comfortable, home is located above the hustle and bustle of San Miguel, but not so far as to preclude a leisurely stroll to the central Jardin in 5 to 7 minutes. Laid out around a verdant patio, the home is designed for entertaining, either formally or informally.

Immediately upon entering, one ascends a flight of stairs to a welcoming front room with three couches before a fireplace, high beamed ceilings, and informal dining for six. Beyond the table is a bank of french doors that provide a pleasant view and, when the doors are open, a musical splashing of the fountain in the patio. Off this central room are found a large formal dining room with seating for 8 and a fireplace, a study with books and TV, a guest bath and a well-equipped kitchen. Margarita, the housekeeper/cook, has a way of turning out Mexican breakfasts with specialties that will have you raving for months after your visit.

Up the well-lit stairway, is a door to the patio, and the first of three bedrooms, containing a queen bed, an interesting 'ojo de buey' (bull's eye) window, a fireplace and bathroom with an antique tub and another fireplace and a street door. Up a few more stairs, one finds the second bedroom, done all in white, and featuring a king bed, a bathroom, a fireplace, and a small sitting room (with Internet access), which opens on to a private balcony with a view to the street and the western horizon. The third bedroom, up a few more stairs, is done in yellow with a green tiled bathroom(with bath tub/shower), and a fireplace, a queen bed with mosquito netting, and a small balcony overlooking the patio below.

Up another flight of stairs leads up to the roof garden terrace with table and chairs, potted plants, and a dyamite 360-degree view. The vista features the central cathedral (here called La Parroquia), a jumble of red tiled roofs, houses and greenery to the east, plus a vast view of the lake, rimmed by the Guanajuato mountains and the sunset to the west. The perfect place for a rendezvous of the guests to enjoy a sundowner and to discuss the doings of the day or make plans for an evening on the town.

All rooms are artfully decorated with colorful and comfortable furnishings, wall hangings, statues and paintings. The house covers some 3800 sq. ft. on 4 levels plus roof garden. In the center of the home is a gorgeous flowering patio with lounges, chairs and a coffee table. There is garage and a small bedroom and bath (with washing machine) at the main entry level.

Margarita comes every weekday (M-F) from 9 AM to 2 PM. She will perform extra chores, such as cooking for you in the evenings, if you desire, for extra pay. Margarita also is in charge of the maintenance of the house, and is on call if you need her at other hours. Cruz, the gardener, comes several times a week to tend to the plants in the patio and roof garden. There is 2 TV with basic cable, as well as a small boom box for radio and CDs, and cable internet.

It is a beautiful, well furnished and located house in a quiet yet central location of San Miguel de Allende. The staff is uniquely qualified to assist every visitor.

The views from the roof top balcony is wonderful, the gardens mature and lovely. The art and decor are appreciated by all who visit and the housekeeper Margarita is exceptional. Many visitors have called the house magical.

Casa Bella is a beautiful house!

  • 5 of 5
My friend and I stayed at Casa Bella for a long weekend at the end of June and it was wonderful. I had been wanting to visit San Miguel de Allende for awhile, and this house provided everything we needed with a perfect location close to Jardin and the town square. The owner helped arrange a driver to take us to and from the airport. I can't say enough about Margarita, the fabulous housekeeper who cooked my friend and I an incredible dinner Friday night and then came back Saturday morning and put together a lovely light breakfast. She was also so helpful in answering questions and suggesting great places for dinner. My recommendation for lunch or dinner: Pegaso!

The house was full of spectacular art--I could have spent all weekend looking at it. The first-level garden was so beautiful, and there was a soothing fountain that gurgled continuously. But my friend and I really loved the roof-top garden, with amazing views of the city and the churches. Best place to have coffee in the morning, and a glass of wine at night.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed Casa Bella--definitely worth the money and a place I would go back to!

This was my first experience with VRBO and it was very positive.

You all had a different experience than I did at this house. I found Margarita to be pretty but not accommodating. She didn't have to work much as I was back and forth between home. When I was there, I asked for eggs, bacon, pan and orange juice. That would happen for one day. I had given Her plenty of money to buy what we needed but she seemed to only buy for one day. She would wash the dishes and leave them on the dish dryer. Why not put them away? She often left early which was fine had she done such things as replace the water bottle which was empty. Not a happy camper.

Owner's Response: Stacy, I called Margarita as soon as I read your review and am terribly sorry you did not have a good experience with her. I wish you had contacted me during your stay. Best regards, Susan Mead, owner

Las tres terrazas

  • 5 of 5
I stayed at las Tres Terrazas 2 weeks ago. It was a wonderful vacation. My family and I spent 5 days in San Miguel and had a great time. The house is pretty well maintained. Every single room in the house is beautiful. They took care of every single detail when they decorated this place!! The house is extreamly clean --I really pay attention to this- and the service is great. Vicky is an excellent cook and she prepared great meals for my family (party of 8) every day-- my Mom cooks great Mexican food so expections were high. I have only good things to say about this place. I will definitely stay at las Tres Terraza a if I go back to San Miguel.

What a great place!!!

Case Bella San Migkuel

  • 5 of 5
I stayed at Casa Bella in San Miguel for 2 weeks...It is LOVELY. The property is about 200 years old and has the feeling of old world charm Mexico. The plumbing works good. It is walking distance down hill to the Jardin where all the locals gather and shops as well as restaurants are plentiful. The maid Margarita is a doll whose aim is to please. While there she not only made breakfast a few days but, also put together her specialty Paella (a Spanish favorite) We had a get together with friends and a few locals...The people who live there whether American or native are extremely friendly. It felt like every night was a party night. If I wanted to party which I passed. But, it's there if you want it....Some restaurants offer entertainment while dining like Spanish Guitar, etc. Oh! most importantly the crime rate is the lowest in the world...2 domestic murders in 2012. And, for those of you who like a bargain. Near San Miguel is a pewter factory which gives you low prices on pewter at most shops. And, you must visit Dolores de Hidalgo a 2-hour drive from SMA. Near Dolores is a ceramic factory where you can actually see people painting the designs by hand....all in all it offered a pleasant and interesting time while there. I plan to visit again

Beautiful house, wonderful gardens, spectacular view, charming housekeeper

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I have stayed at Casa Bella twice, recently for two months. We enjoy this house very much, especially the courtyard garden and the rooftop with its spectacular view and many varieties of plants and flowers. While a little large for only two people with three large bedrooms and one small one, it is a wonderful and spacious house for entertaing and hosting family and friends for shorter stays. The house is beautifully designed and decorated. Margarita the housekeeper is very competent, kind, and helpful and likes to cook for guests. The gardener comes six days a week to keep the literally hundreds of plants and flowers watered and groomed and lovely. The house is in a very nice mixed neighborhood walking distance uphill from the center of town, about 10 minutes. The only drawback is a steep hill to get up coming back the last block. We got used to this and came home in much better shape than when we left. And if you don't like to walk, cabs are plentiful and cheap.
The house is in walking distance to many good restaurants including a very trendy cantina at the bottom of the hill. Two of our favorites are El Pegaso and Cumpanio, both on the way to the Jardin.

Outstanding & Luxurious Home in Beautiful San Miguel

Outstanding & Luxurious Home in Beautiful San Miguel
  • 5 of 5
We stay in San Miguel regularly and always rent a home instead of staying at a hotel. We most recently stayed at Casa Bella for two weeks arriving just after Christmas in 2012. CASA BELLA IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. It has four Large bedrooms and bathrooms, an awesome den with a great wood burning fireplace, huge dining room, and two large rooftop patios with commanding views of all of San Miguel. The location is convenient to everything and near our favorite Restaurant/Neighborhood Bar La Sierena Gorda "The Fat Mermaid" .

The owner's long time personal cook and housekeeper attends to all of the needs of you and your family and is an awesome cook, she even spent time correcting and teaching us Spanish. She is available in the evenings in case you want to throw a party and she keeps the house immaculate.

My only hesitation in posting this review is that it won't be available when we want to rent it again. This is one of the nicest homes in SMA!!
