A week well spent.

Spending a quiet week on a Greek Island was a dream finale to a whirlwind 5 week, non-stop traverse of the European continent. And what better location than that of Christine and John's Serene Villas on Kephalonia!! The 'customer service' provided by the ever-resourceful landlords was outstanding - from personal pick-up at the ferry terminal (a good 45 min ride from the villa!) in their spacious van, complete with plastic deck-chair as optional extra-seating, to providing us with every little detail we could need to get around the area easily without a car (our own choice!), including locations of the best gyros shops in the known world (MOST important). Although around 20-30min walks to the beach or nearest 'super-market', along roads, this was never an issue for us. It is highly recommended to hire a car, however, if desiring to wander farther afield or for prolonged stays. The unit itself was immaculate, nothing was left wanting. Ditto for the swimming pool (although the usual requirement to share your swimming experience with countless crickets, moths, butterflies and the odd lizard...). With more pets than you can safely shake a stick at (2 dogs, 4 cats, anything else hidden away?), this is also an animal lovers paradise - feel free even to join Chris on her daily morning dog walk! (and learn about the amazing wart healing properties of honey on the way! ;-)). All up, I could not recommend this place more to anyone looking for somewhere to relax, unwind and simply escape from the wider (uglier) world. Efkaristo, John and Chris.
Owner's Response: We are pleased you were impressed Gareth and thank you for your humorous report!
Just to clarify, we are in a rural spot and get interesting wildlife, apart from harmless Mediterranean insects and amazing butterflies, there are pine martins and honey buzzards. There are also the traditional donkeys near the village. We have books to lend and can give more information about local walks, fauna and flora and the properties of the local honey and our own olive oil! I am also a complimentary therapist.
We do live on site and John is fanatical about cleaning his pool every day. One psychologist guest diagnosed him as having a compulsive obsessive disorder about it!
Our 2 friendly dogs are kept in a spacious penned area in the olive grove unless on a lead for a walk and are never allowed to run loose in the garden. Last year a tortoise came to stay with us for a while. (They live wild here.) As for the cats we rescued- we request that visitors do not let them in the apartments.
They are vaccinated and kept healthy and spend most of their happy lives sunbathing and soaking up the peace in the grounds of Serene Villa!
Please email any questions you may have and we shall be pleased to answer them. Chris
