Guestbook comments from the owner
wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had. Your cottage was the perfect retreat for my family. My husband and kids both said that the location was so much better than they expected as far as the proximity to the water and the fishing. I loved waking up and relaxing on the deck in the morning. Most of the time I would stay until the afternoon being so content I really did not have to venture out anywhere else

Sweet cottage, great location!

  • 4 of 5
If you have read every review for this property, you know they are mixed. The truth is this: the water is rusty, it will turn your white wash cloth orange. Buy 10 for a buck at the dollar store -- not a big deal. Don't cook with it or use it in the coffee pot - we bought 5 gallons of distilled water and it was more than plenty. The cottage is charming, comfortable and very well stocked. The location is PERFECT in my opinion. This property needs NO defense....a creaky bed (great mattress) and rusty water shouldn't be deal breakers for this wonderful little place. We loved it and would definitely go again. We have bragged about it to our friends and relatives who are a good match for a small space. The owner was responsive and the listing info and photos are pretty accurate.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely Review of the cottage. To address your comments about the water. My technician was denied access to the filter to perform his monthly maintenance by this renter. The reason the renter said she denied acces was that thy did not approve the appointment which was an inconvenient time for them. They also said the technician asked to go into house to perform maintenance. The filter is located in an outside shed. The technician has never needed to enter the house and he verified this was no exception. The renter turned the maintenance people away without contacting me or my manager. I received a call from my manager who received a call from the maintenance people. After I was made aware of this I called the renters who were not apologetic but instead were arrogant, argumentative and tenacious about their point of view. They restlessly argued that they were the "customers" of the maintenance company; therefore, the company "worked for them". And they will approved the maintenance schedule that is convenient for them. I rescheduled another appointment but could not obtain one until the end of the following week. The appointment would be six days after the arrival of the new renters and I was not sure what the condition of the water would be like with so long a time not being monitored and maintenance. The technicians returned to discovered that someone turned the filter valve which allowed the water to bypass the filter altogether. I do not know which renter turned it off but if we were allowed access, we would have discovered this a week ago. Each day the system is not functioning escalates into a bigger problem with many consequences. It will be locked from now on. Not onely did they deny maintenance people access to filter but they never called me as my written instructions clearly state in order to fix before it escalates. I do not understand why they would deny maintenance, if the water was orange as they claim. Why not call my manager or me? Why stay all week and do not follow instructions to request correction and go home and write a review that fails to show how much damage they contributed. We had zero rust last year and no complaints because we used a new resin in the filtrations system. . We have never had anyone interfere by playing with the system nor refuse maintenance. My maintenance people assure me as of today the system is up and running. We had a lot of additional expense to bring it back to functioning.

Water still a problem

  • 1 of 5
The cottage is located in a great location on the Cape and yards away from a scenic view of the town cove. However, the interior is dated and showing its wear and age (including furniture). The biggest negative is the water which has a VERY strong metallic odor and judging by the bad staining in the toilet, it seems to be iron (this got much worse by the end of the week). We bought over three gallons of water for brushing teeth; making ice and coffee; washing fruits and vegetables; and final rinsing of washed dishes, cups, etc. Although the cottage had been cleaned before our arrival, we noticed another odor that seemed to come from the bathroom. Unfortunately, because of the size of the house, these odors carried into the other rooms. I emailed the owner Liz about the situation but never received a response on this matter. We won't go back.

Owner's Response: WATER IS NOT A PROBLEM. There is a little bit of rust. if only the renter contacted us immediately so we could address it. Renter never called me while staying at the cottage about any complaints. After her departure and her return home, renter complained about bed, air, cove view, house, furniture, water after thy a week at cottage. It would have been nice if this person had contacted me first to discuss the source of the complaint and allow me the opportunity to resolve the problem before writing a negative review. In fact one of the renters loved the cottage so much that she is planning on returning. I will address each complaint as follows: 1) This renter did not like the view from the porch which shows the cove, the boat dock and the small island across the way as shown in my photos per website. I have no control over the view. 2) She felt as though interior is dated and furniture was tired. Its a charming beach cottage, not a luxury condo. 3) The stain in the toilet dates back from when there was rust. 4) No one has ever detected an odor and the plumber has gone over to verify no odor no rust. The manager also checked for odors and those renting after do not smell anything. This accusation is very upsetting. If there was an odor, why did she not call me as per instructions provided to all tenants to call immediately if there is a problem and why stay the full week? 4) Renter states she emailed me about these complaints and I did not respond. Yet she called me several times during her stay at the cottage regarding minor issues like how to connect to internet. When she called she never mentioned water problem, odor, rust and in fact she said the place was cute. Knowing she reached me by phone several times readily, yet she chose to send me an email about her complaints. When she did not receive a response to her email she chose not to contact me by phone but instead she wrote a negative review after the fact. I never received this email. I have looked through all my emails and still cannot locate it. I receive a lot of emails and one could accidentally overlook it but why not call if you did not hear from me. My manager will attest that I address all issues promptly. If she was so dissatisfied with the cottage, why did she not tell me when she called me for other minor matters? And then why did she stay the whole week? And why send an email rather than call me since she knew I was available by phone and she could get immediate satisfaction

BEST VACATION EVER!

  • 5 of 5
We've vacationed here for the last four summers and have enjoyed our stays more with each passing year. It's perfectly situated, within easy driving distance of picturesque beaches and yummy restaurants. The cottage itself is a cozy little charmer. The view of the bay is amazing - ever-changing and never-changing. This is a great place to kick back, slow down and enjoy Nature. And this year we noticed that, thanks to a new filtration system, the tap water that used to be on the cloudy side (what the locals just shrug their shoulders and call "Cape water") is now as clear as spring water. Best vacation ever! Thanks again, Liz! Hope to see you next year!

AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!!

AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!!
Please read through before renting this place. The water in this cottage is really bad. It will stain your skin and nails. The kitchen utensils are not useable due to iron stains. The owner will deny this and will not accept. The cottage does not meet town standards for renting.

Owner's Response: The cottage has been rented all summer and no one else expressed these
complaints. To address her complaints my manager went over immediately
to investigate and assured me everything was in order and found her
complaints unwarranted. As far as the water just recently we invested in
a new product that removes 98% rust and as my plumber says it is now
crystal clear and one could drink it. In the past it was cloudy typical
Cape water but now it is perfect crystal clear.

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I just returned from a week at Port Side. The house is exactly as presented in the pictures - a quaint seaside cottage - and the corner spot right on the water offered a wonderful piece of private nature for us. The cable and internet worked flawlessly (big plus in our book). The small community where the house is was very well maintained, with white gravel roads and sea shell driveways, and the private dock was a plus for my husband who likes to fish at 4:00 a.m. The tidal bay is perfect for clam digging, which we did and then had a cookout on the water. Our youngest son who is in Boston College came up for a few days and the three of us found the house a perfect fit. Another big plus for us was being able to bring out dog as she is as much a part of our family as we are (hey I'd leave the husband and kid home and take the dog!) She loved her early morning walks and swims. The location, right off of Rt 6, was great as we were able to get to Providence in 1/2 hour and Hyannis in 20 minutes. We were 5 minutes from the National Seashore, First Encounter Beach (where Myles Standish first landed), lighthouses and some of the most beautiful east coast scenery. Great local restaurants (Arnolds, Marconi Beach BBQ etc.). Super Stop & Shop is 1 mile from the house as is the town of Orleans with lots of shopping. As for the person who complained about the water - well, yes, there is a lot of iron in the water. We are experienced travelers and know to run the pipes wherever we go. That cleared up any issue. The house was impeccably clean and Liz had so much information for us that we felt right at home. There are not many affordable houses on the water, with privacy and a dock etc. on the Cape. We have gone to the Cape every year for the past 15 years and normally stay at my husband's family home in Cotuit. Due to scheduling conflicts we had to look for an alternative and we are absolutely glad we did. We are planning on renting the place next year for a few weeks as we enjoyed Port Side and the Lower Cape far better than the Upper Cape. Great time all around, Thank you Liz! Theresa Doonan

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!

  • 1 of 5
The water filtration system was not working and the owner knew about this prior to our arrival, but did not inform us. We endured days using unfiltered water causing discolored hair, nails, skin rashes, diarrhea, and hard boiled eggs which turned orange. We spoke with the owner who apologized, as she could not get anyone to repair it before Wed. We were upset that we were NOT informed prior and asked for financial compensation which she denied. We left the cottage to stay elsewhere. Needless to say, we were upset with the water quality which may have also been a health hazard and the with the way the the owner handled the situation! We would not recommend this rental to ANYONE.

Owner's Response: In response to my water filtration system not working per the renters statement. I send out letters to all my renters prior to their reserved time at my cottage, which specifically states to call me immediately if there are any problems. The renters arrived on Saturday and did not contact me until Tuesday at 5:58 p.m. to inform me about the condition of the water filter system - when the filtration company was closed for the day for business. I called and left a message immediately with the answering service to take care of the problem ASAP, and was assured in the morning they would address it. I received a voice mail from the renters on Wednesday morning around 10 am, informing me that they were heading home. That afternoon the filtration person came and replaced customer provided cartridge filter, added softener mate to the brine tank and flushed and cleaned system. I contacted the renters to let them know that I immediately took care of the problem once they contacted me and I provided the company name, phone number and the filtration technicians name so they could speak to the company's filtration technician directly and gain an understanding of the filtration system in that it was not broken as they thought, but the system sometimes requires tweeking, which is typical of filtration systems. I have apologized and I do apologize again, but I have met my landlord/tenant responsibility, in that once I was made aware of the problem I immediatly contacted the appropriate people who resolved the issue. Respectfully submitted, Landlord Liz
