You will be in the middle of the Regional National Parc of the Grands Causses (the rugged plateaux surrounding the Tarn river valley and canyon). The region is interesting for both its cultural and natural riches. The Roman pottery excavations, the fine leather manufacturing, the local wine and sheep or goat cheese is matched by the unusual geology of the mountainous region allowing hiking, hang gliding, rock rappelling, caving, canoeing and kayaking. Because of its remote nature, the area?s flora and fauna is unusually rich.
The house is situated at the beginning of the Gorges du Tarn between Aguessac and Riviere sur Tarn, at 10 kilometers from Millau. (Millau is the site of Norman Foster?s extraordinary new Viaduc de Millau bridge.) Also at 10 kilometers distance is the Jonte river valley known for good hiking and viewing wild vultures. At the same distance is the darker Dourbie valley, with its small villages perched on the rocky mountain sides. The Templar site of La Couvertoirade
