‘A spacious, for Cretan conditions almost luxurious location... with a fantastic view over Plakias Bay ...’ that way Eberhard Fohrer, the famous German travel editor, describes the apartments in his guide ‘Kreta’ (Michael Mueller Publishing, Ed. 2005). Upside the small village of Mirthios Villa Stella offers you a breathtaking and unforgettable view over the Libyan sea. High above the wild and unspoiled coast - near to the famous Preveli Monastery and the unique palm beach - the individual and modern furnished apartments - all built in traditional Cretan style - give you a guarantee for relaxing days in the origin beauty of the Cretan south. The apartments offer space for up to 4 or 5 persons with separate bedrooms, bathrooms with shower & WC, completely furnished kitchens, living rooms with Sat-TV as well as generous terraces and balconies. We provide central heating (calorifier) and air conditioning, separately to use in each of them. There is also a bed sofa (with proper single bed) in each living room.
About us (from a professional): ‘Villa Stella, a spacious, for Cretan conditions almost luxurious location at the slope over the village ... Per apartment a completely equipped kitchen, a living room with sleep couch, a bedroom, a beautiful bath and a large terrace with fantastic view over the bays of Plakias and Damnoni. There are heaters and mosquito nets in the windows too’, the German travel journalist Eberhard Fohrer wrote in his travel guide 'Kreta' (Michael Mueller Publishing, 2005).
Bright colours and a decorated floridity: Beside the modern furnished apartments the outside facilities - well shaped by the owners Stella and Michalis Velonakis - are a feast for the eyes. Bright colours and a decorated floridity are forming a delightful contrast to the Mediterranean blue and white of the buildings. Nearly like a blister the houses are placed on the slope above Mirthios. But it's no problem to reach them - afoot as well as by car. A short walk of approximately three minutes leads you down into the pictorial mountain village underneath the impressing Kotsifou ravine. Beside some recommendable taverns with their panorama terraces there are also two Mini markets with a small offer of food and beverages as well as souvenir shops with Cretan arts & crafts. Plakias and the sea with its long and sandy beach can be attained after a short walk of about 15 minutes. The way leads down the mountain by numerous olive groves.
Ideal starting point for daily trips : By car the distance is scarcely 3 kilometres over the asphalted road down to Plakias. There you find all convenience goods, many tourist facilities, in addition a doctor and a pharmacy. Off course we give a hand to you upon renting a car (incl. airport service) at favourable rates. Because of the unique locality nearly in the centre of the island Villa Stella is the ideal starting point for daily trips into all directions and to the many objects of interest on Crete. E.g. the north coast with the beautiful seaport Rethymnon is only about 35 km away. The distance to Chania Airport is about 100 km, to Iraklio Airport nearly ca. 120 km.
It is only a short walk down into the pictorial mountain village of Mirthios. Many of the old houses are carefully reconditioned to keep their special atmosphere. The situation is simply breathtaking beautiful. In the environment you will find wonderful beaches, tiny bays and steep ravines, old monasteries, wide olive groves with thousands of trees and many old villages - a fantastic environment, almost unique on Crete. The place is also a good starting point for many worthwhile walks in the closer environment. The village centre is only a 3 minutes walk away from Villa Stella. The main street runs underneath the village parallel to the sea. Narrow lanes are branching off, leading into the village centre and to the church. Most of these alleyways are not passable by car. Nearby Plakias offers a comprehensive supply. Because of the unique locality nearly in the centre of the island Villa Stella is the ideal starting point for daily trips into all directions.
