July 2009

LL Tour 09 London
Review Submitted: July 12, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We have just returned from The Retreat after a week there. I must say,we were all devastated to leave and couldn't quite believe how truly spectacular the villa was.

When looking for a villa, we wanted somewhere that would really take us away from London life and we couldn't have found anywhere better. As the villa is set within its own 6 acres of land, you are well and truly isolated from any noise. The driveway is breathtaking and the villa is very easy to find as long as you look out for the white bricked gates!
Whilst there are a multitude of taxi companies to use from Uzes and Ales, a car really is a must unless you want to walk for 30 mins to get bread in ther morning!

The kitchen was a great size and clean with fresh flowers hand-picked from the garden on arrival. Beautiful touch and very welcoming. The villa was exceptionally clean and modern, providing everything from bath towels and linen, to dvd's, music and an XBox! Inside was a maze of wonderment but outside was truly spectacular. The french windows from bedroom 1 and the lounge, lead out onto the terrace which can comfortably sit 11. The views from this table are simply breathtaking and this is why we spent all of our mornings and evenings here! I remeber standing there in the morning before everybody had woken, with a fresh coffee and croissant thinking "I can't believe this!". The pool lies adjacent to the villa and terrace and is a great size. We had endless contatcs in case of emergencies and local lady who infact used to own the villa. We actually bumped into her on a few occasions at the bar in Saint Maurice and she was just lovely!

The surrounding vineyards are awe inspiring and the land around the villa was perfect for games of football, rounders and other such activities! We explored everyday and found a swing, plum tree, herb garden and to be honest, i still think there was more around the villa!

If you are looking for a villa away from it all, but close enough to drive to a town then i would absolutely urge you to stay here. The owners were just incredible and answered every email very quickly. I worried about nothing. Thier welcome pack was so detailed i had no furher questions. We were also looked after whilst we were out there so nothing ws ever a problem. We truly felt that we had found a home away from home and coudn't believe it whn the holiday came to an end.

If you are reading this - don't look any further for a villa!

Idyllic!

Review Submitted: November 28, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We stayed at The Retreat last year (07) and were so impressed that we just had to book again on return and returned this summer(08).
It completely out-weighed all of our expectations! What more could you ask for than sitting out on the terrace, day or night, with family, friends, and a glass or two of wine, over-looking the stunning countryside without a care in the world? The Retreat offers you this and so much more.
The description was very accurate with regards to the location, and facilities at the house. The owners had thought of everything you could think of, with plenty of reading matter, DVDs and games for the children .It was soptless inside and because alot of the furniture was pretty modern and white, it made the house feel bright and airey.
Most days we spent by the pool, having twin 6yr old girls, that's all they wanted to do. But it was perfect! Very peaceful and relaxing. My parents and brother used to go off sight-seeing most days and visited some amazing places. All within a short drive. Both years we hired canoes and paddled down the Gard river, passing under The Pont Du Gard viaduct- a sight not to be missed. And we also we ate out day and night in Uzes, again, a must to visit, particularly at night when the square is lit up and the atmosphere is exciting.
The bar/restaurant in the local village served good value, tastey food and catered very well for children. Definitely worth a visit too.
Would I recommend The Retreat to others? Without a shadow of a doubt!
