Originally a Greek fishing vilage Kalkan is now a pretty tourist town nestling at the foot of the Taurus Mountains with the most spectacular scenery imaginable. Narrow streets wind down to the pretty harbour past whitewashed villas with cascading bougainvillea. Famed for its good food Kalkan boasts an abundance of roof terrace restaurants with views across Kalkan Bay (see photo. 6). The pebble beach is extremely pretty with sunbeds, parasols and pedalos for hire. Alternatively just 20 minutes away by local dolmus (minibus) you will find 17km of beautiful soft golden sand that is Patara beach, a protected area where turtles return to lay their eggs. Don't miss the historic sites at Xanthos, Pinara, Patara as well as the sunken city of Kekova and the gorge at Saklikent. This area has something for everyone - shopping, sunbathing, boating, water sports, historical sites or just relaxing. Plus- good weather, good food, friendly people, spectacular scenery - what more could one want.
