This traditional apartment is located in the village town of Canico, just 10km east of Funchal & about 10km from the airport making this apartment ideally situated on the island. The lounge/dining room is very spacious & has a balcony with views of the ocean and the coastal resort of Canico de Baixo a further 2km away. In the lounge area there is a TV, VHS & DVD player, CD/radio player, dining table (extendable). There is also a pull-out sofa bed that can sleep a further 2 people. The master bedroom has a double bed, bedside tables, fitted wardrobes and a dressing table. The second bedroom has twin beds, bedside table and fitted wardrobes along with an ensuite bathroom with shower unit, sink and toilet. The apartment has 2 bathrooms, one ensuite with the twin room and the other is fitted with a bath/shower, bidet, sink and toilet. The kitchen is spacious, with washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave, hob/oven, extractor fan, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, dining table and cutlery.

Canico is a great location for those who want to get out and about to appreciate the rural beauty of Madeira. The area is excellent for hiking with many levada walks only a short drive away. The town has plenty of restaurants, bars and shops (the Canico Shopping Centre has a food hall, and a wide variety of shops). The centre has a large, shady village square, complete with fountain and aviary. It's most notable feature is its handsome Baroque church, which dominates one side of this attractive square. Two kilometres down the hillside lies the sea-level resort of Canico de Baixo, which has a seafront promenade and fringes the town's rocky beach. There are also a number of resort hotels and a diving school as well as a handful of shops, bars and restaurants.

  • Property rental is based on the apartment per week. £220 per week (September to June) and £250 per week (July to September) is for 4 people staying at the apartment. For 5/6 people add another £50 per week. 15% surcharge for Christmas and New Year stays. Payments from abroad are acceptable via Paypal and incur an extra £10 admin fee. A deposit, payable to Mr & Mrs De Nobrega for £100.00 is required to confirm a booking. Payment can be made via British £ cheques or if from abroad via 'Paypal'. Changeover day is flexible. Charter Flights are available from all major airports, including Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter, Gatwick, Glasgow and Manchester, all year round and Luton, summer months only. Flight costs vary. Prices depend on the time of year and how near to departure date you book. Average Flight time from the UK is around 3 hrs 30 min. You will need to arrange and book your own flights and transfers.

Golf Information: Golfers will find two superb golf courses within easy reach, 15 minutes by car - the 18-hole championship Palheiro golf course and the 27-hole Santa da Serra golf course [also known as Campo de Golfe part of the PGA European Tour] is 13km away and has spectacular views. A 3rd course is under construction 45 mins drive to the west at Prazeres and a 4th is planned at São Vicente.

Hiking & Walking : With its wide open spaces and extensive coastline Madeira is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts year-round, and there are countless activities that can be enjoyed either individually or as part of a group. Canico is an excellent location from where one can hike and walk the islands amazing levada irrigation system spanning 2,500 kilometres, which meander round the mountains.

Funchal - The Capital City: Funchal is not only the capital, but also the heart of Madeira and home to many of the islanders. This makes it a busy, chic, cosmopolitan and fun city, full of shops, bars, cafes and a great variety of restaurants and entertainment. The natural magnet for visitors is the extensive seafront, Avenida do Mar. At one end is the marina and harbour, the departure point for boat trips around the island. Inland is the historic centre, a series of graceful streets lined with shops, museums and gardens.

Our Driving Holiday

The apartment is wonderful & very clean & tidy- it has everything you need for your holiday & very well equipt. The supermarket is less than 5 mins away & the underground parking helps a great deal.

There is an excellent restaurant within 5 mins walk as well as a snack bar, Pizza & Tapas restaurant in the new Cani Golden Shopping centre by the apartment, which is also within 5 mins walk. Busses run very regularly & are quite cheap & on time. You do need a hire car to see all the Island. Mr De Nobrega snr is on hand should you need any help & is very friendly.

The balcony is great for just sitting & watching the world go by with a glass or two of the local wine at the end of the day. It was the perfect location near to Funchal but away from all the noise & traffic of the city, everywhere is so easy to get to.

If you go during festival time there is a band in the square during the day & evening & they had a pop group there as well on the Saturday - & its all within 5 mins walk. Beware they let of very loud rockets during the festival throughout the day & evening. We loved the chimes from the church in the square, it starts at 8am & chimes every 15 mins until 8pm every day. Internet access is available at the main Canico Shopping mall - about 10 mins away, but only from 7pm in the evening during the week & they only have 2 terminals. However there is WiFi access for your own laptop at CaniGolden if you take it with you.
Meals were reasonably priced in Canico, but more expensive in Funchal, make for Guiseppi restaurant near the fort the food is fantastic, its located just off the seafront, east of the cable car station. Try & make a trip to Ponta Du Pargo & eat at the Casa du Cha, they have wonderful food & the view from the restaurant is breathtaking.

We loved the Monte Palace Gardens & could have stayed all day, the Tobogan at Monte is expensive 25 Euros for 2 people, but does go a long way. However you do need to take a taxi back to the cable car station as its a very long walk up several steep hills or even longer into Funchal. The Taxi costs 15 Euros & is well worth it. We loved the Monte Cable car its very gentle & costs 23 Euros each for the combined Cable car & gardens ticket (thats a return fare).

Driving is very easy but the hills are very steep, everyone is so friendly, even those who don't speak English. Lots & lots of gift shops everywhere.

We had a wonderful & relaxing holiday.

Lovely Apartment in Canico, Madeira

Stayed here in March. Beautiful apartment, absolutely spotless, well equipped and excellent location. We would recomend car hire. Area was lovely and quiet. Great supermarket in walking distance with lovely fresh bread and rolls first thing in the morning. Would certainly recommend this apartment and will definitely be returning in the future

Excellent Location for Touring Madeira

Excellent appartment location, in a small town located 2 miles in-land, half-way between Airport & Funchal. Easy to get to main motorway and other main roads around the island.
We were a party of 2 x couples and found this accomodation ideal for our needs (2 x bedrooms + 2 x bathrooms). We had a hire car so appreciated the reserved underground parking down below the appartment.
The appartment is located a short walk away from a well-equipped supermaket which we used on a daily basis for fresh bread/rolls, cooked food, etc.
Overall we very much liked Madeira as a holiday location and this accommodation provided us with excellent value for money and we felt it better not to be staying in Funchal because of parking, traffic, and the quick access to all the main roads.
Good places to visit are Machico (only sandy beach for easy swimming we found) and the scenic walk (5 miles) around the headland beyond Canical at the eastern end of the island. Also the drive along the old northern coast road from Sao Vincente to Porto Moniz is worth the effort (40 mins drive away from Canico).

well equipped appartment

The appartment is excellently laid out, well equipped and clean. It's in a very convenient position with a very well stocked supermarket and bus stop for Funchal about 100 metres away. If you have a hire car and wish to walk the famous levadas there's parking below the appartment. A short drive to Camacha and Aqua Mamsas will put you onto some beautiful level walks where you can see the rural life and locals tending their terraced gardens. As Canico is a small village we would reccommend booking a hire car. Current price is around 20 euros a day. Make sure you visit the nearby gardens of Quinta Splendida, the harbours at Machico and Santa Cruz. The Sunday market at Santa De Serra is quite an experience. Jim & Pat, Sussex.

Great location and lovely apartment

i stayed with my girlfriend and baby daughter for 2 weeks from 26th september to 10th october (the weather was still very hot during that time of year). The apartment is ideally situated in the small town of canico. it is simple to get to Funchal by either bus or car and is a very good base to see the island for yourself.

we were provided with an essentials guide to the apartment which was v handy and just gave some relevant info of local amenities and things in the apartment. we also met up with Mr De Nobrega to pick up the keys who also was very helpful himself so that was a nice touch.

The apartment has everything you need, what with having a baby we couldn't go out much at night however we were able to cook some nice meals bought from the local supermarkets and there are a selection of fine restaurants are literally just round the corner so we could take our baby on occasion and still get back before her bed time to chill out in the apartment with some wine from the supermarket (two supermarkets nearby both with a large selection of very affordable, very nice wines).

the private parking space was very handy and there is a lift to get you to different floors of the apartment (i think there are 5 floors in total and the apartment is on the 2nd floor).

we did many driving trips during the day, and didn't find that having a baby hindered us in any way.

the apartment was very clean on arrival and as i said it had everything we needed. it was also very quiet which again was great for a sleeping baby. we cooked some nice meals when we didnt go out and when baby was put to bed we could watch a few films with some dvds we had brought over (there is a DVD player in the apartment) so that was handy.

the views from the balcony are stunning and it was also a very good place to just sit with a glass of wine and watch the world go slowly by. You can also get a view of the sunrise in the mornings if you happen to be an early riser (again with a baby we didnt have much choice in the matter)

there are a lot of activities that you can do nearby such as diving, fishing and walking but madeira caters for all generations i would say (however it thankfully does not have the 18-30 culture anywhere).

all in all we had a great holiday and i would like to go back again. whenever that may be i would have no hesitation in coming back to canico and staying at this apartment again. Thanks for providing a great place and a trouble free holiday.
