3 Twin bedrooms, 1 with ensuite shower, bathroom, separate toilet, sleeps 6.

Modern detached house in a quiet village, with all living accommodation on one floor. There are large gardens with plenty of fruit trees and trees for shade. Wonderful views from the house and the gardens. We have two terraces, each with plenty of garden furniture. The front terrace has a large built in barbecue. In the back garden there is a boule court. The garden is fully enclosed, and has parking for several cars.

Some comments from the Visitors Book: Champ Morin is an ideal retreat especially for nature lovers – so many different species of wild flowers - an otter in the wild - over 50 varieties of birds within the area. Go to a concert at Fontenay Abbey – the cloisters look beautiful by candlelight. The house has absolutely everything we needed. Three teenagers, but not one complaint. Lovely memories to take home. This has been our third visit to Burgundy and we are still finding new and interesting places to see.

Wanting to enjoy the full French experience, we visited many parts of France over the years. We found Burgundy to offer the ideal combination - lots of history, wonderful food (and wine), magnificent scenery and welcoming people.

What makes this house unique

This house is in a medieval village, but is fully equipped for modern living. Views over the valley mean there is always something new to look at. From sunrise to sunset, a wonderful place to be, and at night the stars are incredible. The Milky Way can be seen sometimes. Originally bought as a refuge from a busy life, we have spent long periods here, and it is set up as our second home.

Champ Morin is a very well-equipped, spacious, comfortable and beautifully located with excellent views. A perfect location if you want a quiet holiday in the countryside, close the the canal for picturesque cycle rides or walks. Lots of places to see and visit locally in this attractive and quiet area. Montbard is very nearby and has plenty of choice of supermarkets and other local shops including a weekly market. There is also a great indoor/outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts in the town, and it is on the TGV railway line into Paris for cheap Saturday day trips. We will be going back again for a fourth time this year.

The village is about midway between two towns, Montbard and Veneray. Both have full shopping facilities and a variety of restaurants. The house is set on a hillside which overlooks the Burgundy Canal and the River Brenne. The village has a a (ruined) 13th century chateau, and a 13th century church with large carved figures inside. Fontenay Abbey, the Forge at Buffon, and Alesia are less than 30 minutes away. There are several interesting chateaux close by, Dijon is 80 km or 40 minutes by train, Vezelay, Auxerre and other major towns are within reasonable driving distance. Semur-en-Auxois, Vitteaux, the Champagne Ardennes region are also not far. The famous Burgundy vineyards around Beaune are about an hour's drive away. There is a TGV service which takes one hour to or from Paris.

Refundable damage deposit £200
Notes 25% of the rental is required on booking. Full payment to be made eight weeks before arrival. A security deposit of £200 by deposit of separate cheque is requested at the time of final payment. This is banked one week before arrival, and refunded less any charge for damages, two weeks after departure. Winter rates include charge for central heating.
Payment can be accepted in other currencies.

  • The main bedroom has an ensuite large shower and toilet. The other two bedrooms are on a short corridor which leads to the other bathroom. All the bedrooms have wardrobes, dressing table, mirrors, bedside tables and bedside lights. There are winter and summer weight duvets, and plenty of coathangers. All bed linen is supplied.

Notes:
The kitchen has an eating area and overlooks the side and rear gardens. The oven and hob are built in. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in the basement (sous-sol). There is covered and open-air drying as well. There are two terraces, east and west, with garden furniture for both. There are large awnings on the front/west terrace, which is very sunny. In the back garden there is also a stone table and benches, where you can enjoy splendid views. There is a boule court in the back garden. The east terrace is unfenced, with steps leading down to the garden, so we feel that the property is not suitable for children under five. All the living accommodation is on one floor, so could be used by the elderly and infirm. Wheelchair access is not possible, however. There is a plentiful supply of books, games and jigsaw puzzles. CDs are mixed, light, classical and pop music. Telephone for incoming calls. Large supply of local information and maps, with walks in the area.
