We just returned from the most amazing vacation ever!!! The beach house was PERFECT!!! Retro 60's, just as the pictures show. We were a block away from the white sandy beach, a block away from the circle and a block away from the hotel where my daughter had her wedding ceremony. Perfect location, perfect price, perfect accommodations!! The home was HUGE with plenty of space to accommodate our tribe, both staying and visiting. It was everything and a thousand times more than expected. Carolyn was a fantastic host and made us feel welcome to enjoy all the property had to offer. I wish I could include photos of our family thoroughly enjoying our stay but I will just say...this property being in the perfect location, for the price and amenities was absolutely ideal for our weeks worth of events. Thank you Carolyn for an amazing experience!!! We can't wait to return :)
Location, location, location!!!! This has all of the last three. What an awesome place. Plenty spacious enough to sleep six and even a better place to entertain a few friends and family. I grew up in that area and remember how Florida used to be. Its was like visiting my grandmother house or my aunt Reba's house. There is no misrepresentation on how the place is or how it is decorated. I loved it. Carolyn, i wouldn't change a thing. I thought it was so fun. i had my mom's 80th birthday and i loved to see everybody enjoying themselves there and reflecting back on old times. I had a few of my high school friends come and visit and even entertained a little wedding cocktail party there. This house was built to entertain and i'm sure the original owners were smiling down us, because that's what we were doing having a great time and entertaining. I live in Georgia now, so of course i brought some friends from there with me and they couldn't believe this is how Florida really was just not to long ago. Terrazzo floors, well they were always a topic of conversation. They were beautiful and in great shape. i found the house to be very clean, and well appointed for all your needs. Its just a few steps to the beach and a very short stroll to St. Armand's Circle. You don't want to do any of those things? Hang out by the pool or watch the Sheep head, mullet, and manatees in the canal. Why would you ever need to leave or drive once your there. Would i go back? i cant wait to go back!
I always look forward to staying at Hirsch's Landing. It's inexpensive, always clean, kid-friendly, and spacious. Modern this is not, but if the owner were to modernize you'd be paying triple the rent; just think what you'd pay for the multi-million dollar Mediterranean castle next door. It's clear that the owner of Hirsch's Landing has purposely kept the house in the original configuration so that you can experience what Sarasota was like in the past; and you win with a less-expensive rental.
Walk out onto the dock beyond the pool and you may see schools of mullet, jumping fish, manatees, jelly fish, pelicans, and stingrays.
This place is convenient.
1) It's a short walk to a flat, sandy, quiet beach, where you can
- sit in one of the beach chairs that Hirch's Landing supplies;
- throw a frisbee;
- walk for miles along the water;
- see the spectacular nightly sunsets;
- search for sea shells of all kinds; or
- dip youself into the tranquil waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
2) It's an equally short walk to St. Armand's Circle, where you can
- stroll in the evening;
- watch people from all over the world;
- get ice cream;
- eat at top-notch restaurants and cafes; or
- read a newspaper while drinking a cup of joe in the morning.
3) Have bikes delivered to the house and explore the area. The land is flat and the bikes roll a long way without much effort. With bikes you can
- ride to Mote Marine Laboratory -- less than 2 miles one way;
- pedal to downtown Sarasota and Selby Gardens -- 3 miles -- across the most beautiful bridge view in Florida;
- explore your way to Ringling Museum -- 6 miles; or
- ambitiously trek to Siesta Key, another part of paradise -- 10 miles.
Don't miss out on a relaxing, fun-filled vacation on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, in South Florida's most idyllic city, Sarasota.
We had the chance to rent this house for a week at the end of June 2014. Yes the decor is a bit dated but we weren’t there for that, it is exactly like the pictures. It was big enough for our family of 5. The house is very clean and the location is perfect. You are walking distance to the beach, in fact you walk more on the beach than to get there. Also, it is walking distance to St-Armand’s circle for shops, restaurants and our daily walk to Ben & Jerry’s for ice cream.
The beach is big, white sand and water temperature was 87 degrees, a pure paradise. We will rent again and for a longer period of time.
Our family had a great time in this home. It is bigger than the pictures indicate. Abundant sea life works it way to the dock on a daily basis. One short block to the beach. Good value for the price, I would rent this residence again.
I booked this house just on reviews., shame on me. Upon arriving I asked Donna if we could go in to write checks and she says you don't go in until I get the money. the house is in a ok spot, there are better and it's much farther to the beach than a few steps. all the towels smelled so bad we had to wash them before using them. All the dishes were dirty and what pans there were had dried crusties on them and wee peeling. Carolyn tells me it was fortunate that I had a place close by to pick up pans and beach chairs..I called it an inconvience, how about people who don't have a place? dishwasher did not work, it ran but didn't clean. we killed 2 roaches in the kitchen and there were ants in the bathroom..the bug guy came and sprayed raid.
the landscape is deteriorating and pretty non existent, dead and dried up. the pool is EXTREMELY small, there is 1 lounge chair and the rest is really cheap plastic stuff..1 lounge chair so you couldn't lay by the pool if you wanted to or had to take turns. there is a large area of rocks and bent and broken beams...don't know what that served. the house had to be for small people since there is a table with chairs that are almost on the floor...good for kids I guess. you have to stoop down in the shower to get under the shower head. the vanities are very low for normal people. the contraption that held the toilet paper was dirty! the beach is quite a hawl when you are carrying stuff. the decor is terrible. The furniture in the LR is broken and when you sit on in you sink in. I do have something good to say...the bed in the master BR was comfortable.
when I go away I expect to be in a real nice place that is clean and nicely hdecorated...this is not the place. There are other nice places a couple blocks away for 1/2 the price. There are a lot of nice places in the area that I cannot mention here. I still haven't figured out what the high cleaning fee was for since we had to clean everything we used. I tried to find another place to stay and get some of my money back but the places I wanted to be we're booked. Carolyn says that I was difficult from the start and I don't know how, I just asked her to waive the tax like another home owner was going to do for me. screens on patio doors were ripped, we taped them. Beach chairs are extremely small and the 2 bigger ones were broken and all the chairs were totally rusted. I had to go to my condo and get my chairs and buy 2 more for our guests! renters beware
This upscale vacation area is literally Steps from Lido Beach and. Armand's Circle with it's shops and restaurants.. it is also close to Downtown Sarasota, Florida's cultural coast. You'll find many cultural activities :world class theatre, opera, symphony, ballet & museum. It’s only a walking distance from shopping. Great restaurants and 85 Golf courses are within 20 miles. Boat rentals are available. The gorgeous Lido Beach is just across a private road.. The house is located on a canal, has a beautiful dock, and has water views from all over the home! Terrific Location!
