The Costa Calida/South Costa Blanca Area:
The town of San Pedro Del Pinatar and its neighbouring coastal resort of Lo Pagan are situated on the northern tip of the Mar Menor, a natural salt water lagoon with several blue flag beaches, safe bathing and warm water which is, on average, 2degrees warmer than the Med.
The nearest beach is Playa Villananitos which is a 10 minute walk. At the beach are the famous mudbaths, rich in therapeutic minerals. The house is a 10 minute drive from Murcia (San Javier) airport and 50 minute drive south from Alicante. The fine sandy beaches look across the Mar Menor to the famous La Manga strip which has the renowned La Manga Golf Resort, a 20minute drive away.
Within a short walk is the national park “Las Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar”, which plays host to several species of birds including migrating flamingos. A newly built road/cycle track takes you through the national park and salt flats to the marina and to Playas de La Llana, which is the first Med beach to the north of the Mar Menor

There are many walks through the nature reserve, and the general area. Being very flat it is accessible to all and also very popular with cyclists, who have the luxury of many dedicated cycle lanes (local cycle hire nearby).
Golfers are spoilt for choice in this locality with 4 courses, Lo Romero (opened 26/01/08) Villamartin, Campoamar and Las Ramblas, only a 15minute drive away. A 30 minute drive will take you to 6 more.
There are also facilities for sailing, water skiing, para gliding, boat trips, fishing, diving, wind surfing, jet skiing and horse riding within a short drive. Based at the harbour, the following company has much to offer in this regard and is worth a visit. Lo Pagan:
Lo Pagan offers several bars, cafes and restaurants along its lengthy promenade shaded by palm trees. It is an enjoyable evening walk and there is a fairground and plenty of nightlife in the summer. San Pedro is a small Spanish town with tapas bars, restaurants, banks, shops and supermarkets. The local market on a Monday is a hub of activity and sells almost everything, including locally grown produce. The market is in the centre of town which is a 15 minute walk away. The bus station is also a 15 minute walk from the house. There are also five local bars/restaurants very close to the house too. Ask our key holder for directions.
A five minute drive north on the N-332 will take you into the Alicante region which is on the Costa Blanca. The resorts of Pilar de La Horadada, Cabo Roig, Playa Flamenca and Torreveija are all within a short drive and you will find many fine beaches with excellent facilities, harbours, bars, restaurants and shops.
