Big event every year in July: the famous festival of Avignon
Avignon is well known for its theatre festival, created in 1947 by Jean Vilar, which attracts the whole performing arts world during summer. Every year in July, the City of Popes becomes the Theatre Town, its roads transform into a huge scene that welcomes the largest festival of in & off theatre in the world. Theatre scenes appear in the town centre. The show is in the street, in improvised theatres, sometimes in unusual places. More than a thousand shows take place in these theatres as well as in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes. You will be able to see this exceptional event. Avignon is a huge scene of which the spectator is part of. Many temporary theatres and restaurants open their doors for the occasion, in addition to those who already exist. Hundreds of mobile merchants, craftsmen, painters, etc. display and exhibit. All kinds of singers and bands, dancers and dancing companies animate our streets and scenes. The city is an open-air forum where festival-goers talk about the shows and share their feelings and experiences. For a month, everyone can enjoy a contemporary and vibrant culture. If you are interested in this fabulous event, come and take your holidays in our region. Our Provencal Villa is located 5 min from the Avignon festival.
Towns of Nîmes (Roman city arena), Arles (arenas), Anduze (bamboo grove), Orange (antic theatre with the Choregie d'Orange opera), Aix-en-Provence. You will also have the pleasure to discover some of the most beautiful villages of France, like Gordes in the Luberon, the Beaux-de-Provence in the Alpilles, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Fontaine de Vaucluse, the Chartreuse of Villeneuve les Avignon (museums, archaeological sites), the Pont du Gard, Pont St-Benezet, the Fort St-Andrée. The Colorado of Rustrel with its superb shiny ochre quarries, etc. Discover the paths lining the Dentelles of Montmirail, the magnificent views over the whole region. The summit of the Mont Ventoux is also super for hiking, the ascension of the Mont Ventoux by leaving from the valley of Toulourenc, six hours of walk for 1600 m of difference in height, etc.
I have a passion for the pictorial expression of all periods, for the colour, light, and Provencal art of living. It's from this colourful and picturesque setting that I draw my inspiration. Close to our renters and caring for their well-being, Michel and I do everything we can in total discretion so that our renters feel at home in our villa during their stay.
VILLA PLEIN SUD AVIGNON purchased this villa in 1999
We chose Avignon for the sweetness and the sun. Keen on architecture and decoration, I spent hundreds of hours for this villa to have a soul so that the renters spend unforgettable holidays here. You will find everything you need. The house is very personalized, perfectly equipped and maintained. It is a nice place to live in. We put it at the disposal of respectful people who we can trust.
What we love: Avignon is a wonderful city with history and culture, very pleasant to live in. We have been happily leaving here for 18 years: we like to go to the scented market hall in the morning, the strolls in the city lively of out of the time depending on the moment, the small magical streets with surprising names (Cat's street, Wheelbarrow street,...) and the charming old houses. The architecture, the human size, the beautiful Palais des Papes, the Jardin des Doms with a gorgeous view of the valley, the backstreets were time seems to have stopped, the Ceccano multimedia library, the museums, the cinemas, the restaurants, the Place des Corps Saints, the Ile de la Barthelasse...
The student atmosphere with their outings, having a drink on a sunny bar terrace, savouring a tomato with olive oil and basilica in a shaded bistro-bar. Access the culture and the huge scene that welcomes the largest festival of in & off theatre in the world. More and more dynamic, a good system of bus until 0.30 a.m., 3 SNCF train stations, the TGV train station, the central train station, and the south station for cars. One international airport. The Provence that we love to rediscover during each spring. The weather, the Mediterranean sun, the Provencal accent that reminds us that we are indeed in the South.

The Painters' Trail
The city of Angles and its village. Strolling in the backstreets, you will follow the memory of the XXth century painters who drew their inspiration from there. At the end of the XIXth century and at the beginning of the XXth century, this was the hangout of the naturalist painters from the Fine Arts School of Avignon. Their leader was Pierre Grivolas. Many internationally renowned painters like Derain, Chabaud, Masereel installed their easels on this appealing site. Attracted by a bright and sunny crystal clear sky, this generation of artists created many paintings in this particularly evocative setting.
