Lovely Village and House
We booked the property at very short notice, sending an availability request to the owner via this website. Within the hour the owner, Sadi, telephoned to explain that the house was available and to answer any questions. From then on everything went smoothly and Sadi met our every request. including installing a free WiFi facility. He also emailed additional photographs.
Saignon is a delightful village and the property has a wonderful view towards Apt and the setting sun. The "Rock" was once a fortified lookout and from the top one can see for miles in all directions, including a magnificent view of Mount Ventoux. The village is medieval but boasts a busy cafe/boulangerie, three restaurants and a small produce market on Thursdays.
Apt has a large and busy market on Saturday and one of the best I've seen in a long time. Lots of local produce and no replacement window stalls!. In over 30 years of travelling to France we've noticed a decline in the traditional French markets and it was great to see one still survives in Apt, which also has numerous shops, bars and supermarkets.
Avignon is not too far away and worth a visit, as too is the port of Cassis. Nearer (a 10-15 minute drive) can be found the ocre village of Rousillon and the picturesque (but touristy) Gordes. The Luberon area has plenty to see and do.
The property is near the centre of the village on a narrow street where one can park outside the door to unload. There are many free car parks within a few minutes walk.
The rooms are clean and well appointed, with two double bedrooms and two twins. The kitchen is well appointed with all facilities, mostly new.
The two bathrooms are a bit dated but everything works as it should.
There are two terraces but we spent all our time on the top one just outside the dining room. The terrace is a sun trap but has plenty of natural shade and a good umbrella. The property description on this site is accurate and describes it well.
As a policy we never go back to the same property for another holiday but if we did, we'd certainly go here again. Sadi will make you very welcome and I can thoroughly recommend the property and location. My only complaint was the lack of a Guest Book. I always find these extremely useful and like to pass on tips to future guests. But Sadi is open to suggestions and maybe there'll be one next time?
Thank you Sadi for sharing your house and making us so welcome.
