In the heart of old Pézenas, step into a high-walled garden and catch your breath. Before you lie a hidden garden with plane trees, palm trees, and a delicious swimming pool - children can roar around without fear of damaging anything. Jean-François (French) and Nikki (English) have transformed the graceful 18th-century convent into four strikingly contemporary mezzanine apartments. Arched French windows lead from terraces into open-plan salons: light airy spaces, minimum furnishings, maximum comfort. Sweeping floors and stippled or washed walls make the most of each room’s lofty proportions while deep sofas, a wooden dining table and hand-crafted chandelier add a bold edge. A delicate metalwork spiral stair leads to a snug mezzanine sitting room; a neat fitted kitchen is tucked into a corner. Light-filled bedrooms, warm in peach and pink, have a sprinkling of antiques. Take a dip in the pool, pick the garden herbs, reserve french classes or book an excursion.

Sleeping up to 6 people, Marguerite has two large bedrooms on the third floor with garden views, antique furniture and large, marble fireplaces. Both bedrooms have private bathrooms. There are additional separate toilets on the bedroom level and ground floor. The mezzanine can be used as a bedroom with a double sofa bed, a television, a DVD player and a radio. The mezzanine has been meticulously designed and decorated by a local ferronier d’art including chandeliers and door handles. The kitchen is located on the ground floor, and is fully equipped including, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, etc. The kitchen gives on to the spacious living and dining area which include a large antique table that seats 6 to 8 people, sofa, club chairs and cocktail table. Through large bay windows is the private sunny terrace which includes garden table and chairs for outdoor dining.

Wonderful choice of restaurants in the winding streets and many summer festivals, concerts and cultural events. Also famous throughout France for its antique shops and bric-a-brac yards and the weekly Saturday market. Private wine domains dominate the surrounding countryside. All welcome visitors to taste the local produce.A fascinating introduction to the many up-and-coming and already famous appellations. The Mediterranean coastline is just 12 miles from Pézenas.
