Blagdon Water consists of 35 acres of rural countryside. The exclusive site contains a 3 acre lake and 15 acres of newly planted woodland. The accommodation facilities, in the form of three house boats are located on the lake in their own private two acre sites. This environmental site is dedicated to providing a natural habitat in which the local wildlife is free to flourish without it having to compete with the needs of modern agriculture. The new woodland has encouraged an influx of new residents in the form of voles and rabbits and the lake now provides a welcome haven for a large array of bird life many of whom are raising their young there. Among recent sittings are barn owls, cuckoos, buzzards, kestrels, ducks, coots, moor hens and dabchicks. One of the great pleasures of staying at Blagdon Water is the sense of space and freedom.

Swallow Tail is a custom built, 15m (50ft) house boat styled along the lines of the traditional narrow boat. Like her sister Painted Lady, she has a much more spacious and airy feel than the classic narrow boat. She is moored on her own private jetty on a 3 acre lake and enjoys the exclusivity of a further two acres on which to house additional campers if required. Swallow Tail is boarded via the aft deck which looks out across the lake and offers plenty of outdoor seating and a canopy for the extra hot or drizzly days. Step down into the main salon and open plan galley area all tastefully decorated to give a light and fresh feel. The cabins and shower rooms lie towards the bow of the boat offering one double ensuite and one double or twin (adjustable according to requirements) also with shower room. The cabin furthest forward also has its own private deck area.

Blagdon Water is located in the heart of the North Devon countryside, or as it is know locally, Ruby Country. Ruby Country is 'the land between the moors' bordered to the east by Exmoor, the south by Dartmoor and the west by Bodmin moor. Blagdon Water is an excellent base from which to enjoy the local walking and cycling routes, many of which are off road. The Atlantic Highway, approximately 10 miles away, provides easy access to the beaches of Devon and Cornwall.

  • The main double cabin has double doors leading out onto the fore deck and an ensuite shower/WC. The second cabin has twin beds with the provision to make a second double if required. Its shower room is not ensuite but adjacent to it enabling any additional guests who may be sleeping in the main salon to have access.

Notes: This is a perfect holiday for children although due to the nature of the holiday and the proximity to water caution must be taken with young children. The elderly are most welcome although lack of mobility may be a problem due to the need to step on and off the boat and navigate steps. Non smoking applies on board only. Visitors must be aware that the electricity supply to Swallow Tail is supplied via a solar panel and is therefore 12v only. This provides excellent lighting, CD player etc but cannot accommodate the usual domestic facilities such as TV, computers, microwaves etc. There is a generator available for people who need to use a hairdryer or iron.
