Ideally located along the the scenic and tranquil shoreline of Pepeekeo Point, this beautiful carrriage house offers everything you need to create the ideal dream experience of true Hawai'i. What a perfect retreat for couples of all ages!
This amazing carriage house features incredible ocean views from nearly every room. In addition, a wide and spacious lanai offers the ideal setting to enjoy morning coffee or an afternoon drink while watching passing boats, dolphins or whales in season.
The home features one bedroom with a queen bed along with a comfortable, full size futon sleeper in the living area. A new, full size washer/dryer are contained within the cottage's laundry room for your personal use.
Large spacious windows provide amazing views and allow comfortable trade winds to flow throughout. The lanai (balcony) of the home is very large and offers a great place to sit and relax or enjoy your meals.
This newly built home was designed to take advantage of not only ocean views but incredible views of towering 13,000 foot Mauna Kea as well.
At over 900 square feet, the carriage house is the perfect fit for couples.
Satellite television and free Wifi are also available.
Guests may relax all day in the cozy home or walk mere steps to the amazing waters of the Pacific. Dolphins and Sea Turtles are nearly a daily sighting with humpback whales frequenting the waters from January through April. The home is located in a quiet, gated neighborhood along the scenic Hamakua Coast where the homes are spread over 5, 10 and 20 acre parcels.
While we live in the adjacent main house, we also understand and respect the privacy of our guests. We love to personally greet each guests, provide a very brief tour and then allow you to relax and enjoy. We have no children but do have two, friendly and loving labs. They basically lay all day on our lanai but occasionally have the need to be petted or have a ball thrown :) We have a few sheep in two separate paddocks that appear to enjoy their oceanfront accommodations.
The quaint town of Pepeekeo Point is ideally located only 11 miles from Hilo Town. It is close enough to go for dining or trips to the famous Hilo Farmer's Market but also far enough away to be tranquil and serene. The town of Hilo also offers modern shopping conveniences of stores such as Target, Walmart and a new, large Safeway.
We are located in an extremely nice, gated area where everyone knows your name and loves to stop and 'talk story.'
REGARDING CHILDREN, DUE TO FACT THAT WE ARE A WORKING FARM AND ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE OCEAN PALI (CLIFF) WE DO NOT FEEL AS THOUGH THE HOME IS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 14.
Steve and I moved to Hawaii in 2013. Our only regret? Why didn't we make this move sooner! We fell in love with the Hamakua Coast and the Pepeekeo Point area on our first visit. We are close enough to all the conveniences of a large city and beautiful beaches however so enjoy the tranquility of our small farm life. Like most here in Hawaii, we spend the majority of our time outside with our two friendly dogs, Bracken and Lily, enjoying amazing ocean views and a year round comfortable climate. We love having guests and sharing the amazing things that Hawaii has to offer. Therefore, we decided to build the Carriage House Cottage for couples or small families to come enjoy Hawaii at a very reasonable costs.
Steve Cox purchased this house in 2012
The Pepeekeo Point area of the Hamakua Coasts offered incredible views, is close to everything and reminded us so much of the happy childhood memories on our grandparents' farms.
From our Guestbook:
We had the privilege of being the first guest in this amazing cottage. From the peaceful morning sunrises, amazing views and perfect central location we could not have asked for more. We so enjoyed our morning coffee on the lanai almost as much as we did our evening glass of wine while sitting on the edge of the ocean. At least 50 spinner dolphins swam by on our first night!
Mahalo to Julie and Steve for providing us with such a memorable getaway. We will surely be back soon!

We stayed four nights here and enjoyed it very much! Beautiful view, quiet with little traffic. Steve and Julie were very welcoming and always available if needed but did not intrude. The sheep were lambing while we were there so fun to see the new lambs and their two dogs are friendly and we enjoyed being greeted by them each day. The Carriage House was spacious and clean with everything we needed. With the breeze from the ocean and plenty of windows and ceiling fans it was always comfortable. We would highly recommend it and will definitely stay there again if we come back to Hilo.
We were at the Carriage House 6 nights. It was perfect for us in every respect. Quiet, very private, beautiful setting, frolicking lambs, goregous views. Accomodations were virtually new, well furnished and comfortable. Kitchen amenities all we needed. Host was charming. Location in rural area was very pleasant; just a few miles north of Hilo. We would stay there again in a heartbeat... and longer!!
We can't say enough positive things about our stay! We explored the coast from the front door. Ate dinner on the pali overlooking the beautiful ocean. Watched whales literally explode from the water! Giggled over the antics of the goats and enjoyed our interaction with the owner. The area was perfect for my husband to take his daily runs and the area was so peaceful. Everything we could have hoped for and more. Mahalo to Steve and Julie for making this stay absolutely perfect!
We stayed in early march 2015 for 5 nights at the carriage house and can confirm any of the previous recommendations. We experienced the location as an ideal starting point for daily trips to the sightseeing spots on the eastern side of big island (volcano 45 min, mauna kea 70 min, waipi'o valley 60 min and hilo 15 min). The pictures speak for themselves and give you a very good impression of what you can expect. Our hosts were as great as hosts can be and the communication was easy and we always got a quick response. Thank you for an very enjoyable stay and we would definitely book it again. Best regards from germany
I can't say enough about how we enjoyed this little piece of paradise! We definitely found an out of the ordinary stay here, which is exactly what we were looking for. The Carriage house was in perfect shape and very clean. The owners are very hospitable and a pleasure to talk with. They certainly gave us some great ideas when we asked about the area. We loved the country setting right on the ocean, and in particular had a charming time watching the 10 week old baby lambs frolic about! :) Certainly an experience that made our trip even more delightful! Thank you Steve and Julie for the wonderful stay! Don't forget to ask Steve about "What's Shakin' on the way to Hilo! Great place to eat!
We had always wanted to explore the Hilo side of the island and this seemed to be a great place to start. It was so much better than great! It was fabulous! The view from the lanai couldn't have been better! How wonderful to have a country setting complete with whale watching from your lanai and yet still be only a few miles from Hilo! The carriage house is extremely well built and maintained. The owners, Steve and Julie were very nice and very prompt in returning our deposit which we truly appreciated. We look forward to returning and staying here again. We highly recommend the carriage house. Ken's House of Pancakes in Hilo is a great place to eat as is the What's Shaking near the botanical gardens.
While located on an island, the things to do on Hawaii Island are endless. Where else can one experience snow at 13,000 feet and then make the short drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Whether your idea of a vacation is relaxing on the beach, touring a botanical garden hiking to a 400 foot waterfall, there is surely a daily event to entertain you while in Hawaii.

Due to the fact that the home is located very near the ocean pali (cliff) and is located on the 2nd story, we do not feel as though the Carriage House is suitable for children under the age of 14.
