Overview

Cisternino Villa Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 10 in 5 double bedrooms, 3 modern bathrooms, mod conveniences

Old trulli stone villa, one of only three houses in the contrada, deep in the Puglian countryside. Set in the beautiful Valley d'Itria it has five double bedrooms, handmade super king size mattresses, 3 modern bathrooms (2 with bidet), kitchen set in local stone, stone flooring and towering conical ceilings crossed by old wooden beams. Handmade wooden doors to each room. Modern white goods, windows with integral mosquito nets. The house has its own cistern (well) under the house, bbq, forno for cooking outdoors (pizza and foccacia), 15m x 5m pool (with deep end) and jumping board, pool toys, outside seating for 20 14 on terrace with pergola and 16 feet long stone table. Seating area around the pool with large umbrellas. The kitchen is completely equipped for cooks, including cookery books in English.

The famous Italian cycling path is 2 minutes from the house and is the one the official 'The Way of the Trulli' section.

Our visit our local buddhist centre, world famous Bhole Baba where you can practise yoga or join in the meditation.

Sit under the ancient olive trees or pick your own figs whilst watching the sun set over the valley with a glass of local Primitivo wine, which can be bought from the local Upal cooperativa at ridiculously low prices.

Evening meals can be catered for an extra charge directly to the local cook. They can also provide local food cookery classes.

You will find vegetables growing in the garden, please use them. Also all the fruit or nuts in our fields that are ripe are free for your use, please help yourselves. We also leave dried foods in the pantry, if they are there you are free to use them.

We have lots of cook books, dictionaries and maps for your use as well. We leave plenty of DVDs, CDs, stationery, extra lightbulbs, loo paper, and often soap powder. Please use all the games (Articulate, Chess, Draughts, cards, Risk etc) and well over 60 books some in foreign languages.

We have volley ball, pool ball, football (and mini goals) and basketballs in addition to the full size ping pong table.

There is plenty to see around the area and the beaches are lovely, but for peace and quiet, just sit by the pool watch the buttlerflies and housemartins whilst looking at the view or take a stroll around Cisternino late at night after a wonderful dinner at Il Taverna del Torre, picking up a handmade iceceam on the way in Glaciale Era. Check out some of the trendy bars in Cisternino or just visit a traditional cafe for an espresso and cornetto (cream filled crossiant).

Please note bedroom 5 on the roof has not got a bathroom next to it.

We have an automatic pool cleaning robot which you can put in every night so you don't wake up to bugs on the bottom. The pool man comes weekly.

The pool does not have a fence around it but the whole garden (two fields) has.

The flowers are beautiful around the pool and we have pomegranate trees and oleander bushes along the fence on one side, creating a lovely colour wall.

We have two outdoor showers so that you can wash after a swim and plenty of space to dry clothes.

You will find wood and kindling for the pizza forno and details of how to make the dough and cook the pizzas at the house.

About Sharon Bierer

A family from London and Denmark who love their home in Italy. We have local friends now to whom we speak dreadful Italian but we speak it enthusiastically! We love the local food and wine and always try to buy from local shops. Please enjoy our home.

Sharon Bierer purchased this villa in 2004

Why Sharon Bierer chose Cisternino

It is surrounded by countryside, is quiet, has beautiful views and wonderful neighbours who have lived in this contrada for centuries.

The house is 200 years old and has such character. It is so close to Cisternino and shops but still very 'unknown'.

What makes this villa unique

Character, beautiful trees and country life going on around one. Sitting on the roof drinking a glass of wine watching the sun go down over the valley. Reading a book on the hammock or lazing in the pool. Neighbours, not an agent, who live next door and who are available immediately for any issues. Eating on our 16' (4 metre table) stone table, watching the butterflies.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Mrs Bierer,

Many thanks to your “hostess” Imma (?), who has been very helpful in letting us use her baby chair for our grandson. It took some driving up and down to Brindisi.

Anyway I should warn eventual coming quests with babies, that AVIS, Brindisi, does not see the difference between a baby chair and a children’s chair, although at booking there is a baby chair alternative in the form.

On the whole we all are very satisfied with our week in your Trulli. One extra plus is its location on a hill which gives cool air.

At last I will have to report a theft: In the commotion around the baby chair a forgot to refill your Limoncello stock, which entitles you to deduct the price of 1 bottle (€25, I believe) from the refund amount.

Mille grazie ed arrivederci!

A great place to stay!! Highly recommended!

  • 5 of 5

We have been a week in this marvelous house in Puglia with 12 persons. It was perfect!

A warm welcome from the housekeeper Paolo and his friendly wife (they live next door and are Always at your service).

A large house, enought space inside for the evenings and more than enough space around the swimmingpool. The beds were comfortable, there were 3 bathrooms, fully equipped. Near the swimming pool was a large table and around the swimming pool more than enough beds to enjoy the sun.

The house is situated a few miles from the centre of Cisternino (5 minutes by car) and close to all kinds of interesting places, like Alberobello, Martine Franca, Locorotondo, Ostuni, Lecce, Bari and so on. Enough to see! In other words: this house is a great place to stay!!!!! family van Oostrom from the Netherlands

Trulli amazing

  • 5 of 5

Classic Trulli Farmhouse adapted to holiday property . Outside pool well maintained. Paolo and Imma next door manage the property and were immense when we had any problems, and sorted issues in double quick time.

Lovely location in downtown Italy -- lots to see and do. Coast 25 mins away. Local produce and restaurants all recommendable. No hesitation in recommending the property.

Owner's Response: It was great meeting this professional couple and their adult family. They really took in the many local sites and ate out a lot enjoying the wonderful restaurants in Cisternino. I am grateful for their kind words about Paolo and Imma, who live next door and do a fantastic job with smiling faces!!

Beautiful setting, clean and tidy.

  • 4 of 5

The setting of the trulli was very peaceful and the house was clean, well furnished and well looked after. The pool was wonderful and the weather great. The house is not easy to find without very detailed directions, so make sure you get these before leaving your home! The outside area is spacious and incredibly relaxing, and Paolo and Imma ( the neighbours) are very helpful. There are a wealth of nearby little town which are perfect for mid morning coffees, strolls and ice creams. In the evening, Cisternino is gorgeous and having a drink in one of the bars or restaurants is wonderful. In the evenings, the light is magical. A relaxing, restoring holiday!

Truly lovely!

  • 4 of 5

The listing description given is spot on so no unwelcome surprises. The trulli is very unusual and wonderfully cool. It is very well-equipped and comfortable although the beds are quite high! Paolo and Ima were very helpful as was the excellent welcome file. The pool area is perfect with a very pretty garden around it. We had not been to Puglia before and the position of this trulli was excellent as all the major towns are within easy distance and the closest, Cisternino, is lovely. We discovered rather late in the day that our hire car had sat nav which would have helped a lot in getting to the trulli at night, particularly if you can change the language to English! We would thoroughly recommend this to other visitors.

Owner's Response: So pleased this charming couple and their party enjoyed themselves. I am glad they thought the description accurate and house well equipped and well positioned. We agree that two of the 7foot wide beds are high as they are on the original walls of the threashing floors and have put a little stool by the beds to make it easier for people to get into bed!

A Trulli Memorable Honeymoon....

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to of been given a two week holiday at this wonderful Trulli house in Cisternino, We were due to arrive early evening however our flight was delayed leaving London and we arrived just after 2100. We decided before we left not to hire a car as no one wanted to drive and we literally did just want to get lost in relaxation. Before we left we had arranged a taxi from the airport to Bari Centrale (20Euro) we then boarded the train to Fasano, this takes you down a beautiful coastal line where you can sit and watch the sunset over the Adriatic, Beautiful! When we arrived in Fasano we were met by our prebooked driver who then transferred us to the house in Cisternino, (30Euro) all in all a great way to start the honeymoon. As I mentioned earlier we arrived at the house just after 2100, we were met by Imma & Paolo who welcomed us and showed us around the house which was wonderfully lit up and the pool looked very tempting even at that hour! They then wished us good night and if we had any issues at all we were to contact them across the road. Once we had opened the bottle of wine that was left as part of our welcome pack (and very palatable I must add) we set about using a sat nav to find our bedrooms…. This was another fun task as the rooms are all wonderfully equipped and as I can now say EXTREMELY comfortable. All of the bedrooms have huge beds and even at the time of writing this review I still miss it!

The kitchen area is fully equipped for everything you could need to provide a dinner party for 20, the utensils were all appreciated that’s for sure! We spent most evenings out on the patio eating drinking and most of all laughing. We made some very good friends in the shape of Spillo and Pallino who are two beautiful dogs living in the same Contrada. Over the two weeks we took them out of their accommodation and let them run and play with us. Very very rewarding it was to see them enjoy us and the sun.

We went to the local market on a Monday and bought lots of fresh produce to cook with and make pizzas with, another great experience. The local Supermarkets Olive (in Cisternino opposite Upal the Wine outlet) and Punto (the end of the road) are both very well stocked but personally I felt Punto was the best not only for location but you were able to move around it freely as opposed to move round relatively cramped aisles

The beach is very close and perfect to finish the tan off! Noise wise there was nothing except

perfect holiday villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa is even more beautiful than the pictures.

We arrived with our family, total of 8 people. The villa was perfect.

Very nice bedrooms and a perfect kitchen (we love to cook) and everything was there...everybody was feeling at home....

Even for a picknick at the beach...everything you need it's there..Coolers, plastic cups..all.

Our children love the tv room...for the last hour before sleeping.

The garden was very nice and the pool was a bit cold but we all went for a dive.

The outside stone oven was (with a little help) our stove for the hole week. We lived like the Italian. Herbs and fruits, you can just pick them frech out the garden.

Dear Charon, thank you for sending all our thinks we forgot to take home!

If you want to have a great holiday with friends or family..this is the place to go!!

Just 20 minutes drive to the beach and nice town and markets. The local people are very helpfull and nice. They all try to speak english to be at our service.

Contrada Fantese is an old masseria (old farm), consisting of only three properties/homes. Our neighbours are locals who farm the land and mend the surrounding trulli. It lies in the middle of the valley d'Itria, surrounded by fields and there are superb views of Locorontondo and Cisternino from the garden. The area is close to all the famous towns of the area, Martina Franca, Alberobello, Ostuni and Ceglie Messapica (renown for its restaurants). The sea is about 25 minutes drive away with beautiful sandy beaches. The area is full of wild flowers, olive, fig, walnut and almond trees and local vineyards.

Cycle on the famous Italian cycling routes (2 minutes from the villa), visit the Bhole Baba buddhist centre for yoga and meditation, run through the countryside, visit the vineyards, cheese shops.
