IN A 15 CENTURY PALACE,A LIGHT AND SPACIOUS APPARTMENT

We were happy to find that the apartment was exactly as described. Also the pictures show very well how cosy and romantic this spacious place is. For nearly 4 weeks we lived and worked there, and of course explored the marvellous city. The owner is very kind and helpfull. The neighbourhood may seem shabby at the first glance but it is very safe and we got familiar with a lot of people because we shopped our groceries locally and drank our espresso in the local bars. The location is excellent, and nearby are some of the most exciting sights such as the churches in la Loggia around the corner and the ancient market of La Vucceria, though not the biggest any more, it’s still worth shopping good sword fish and baccala there. Some nights an amazing grill master works his charcoal grill - go and enjoy his perfect works of art! Also nearby you find excellent places to eat and since the food is very, very good, you’ll need to exercise. Along the harbour and the park are great running tracks to keep you from gaining weight.
Also nearby is a big supermarket so you get along well without a car. For fashion shopping the area is not the best but within 5 minutes you will be at the Via delle Liberta with all big fashion stores in all prices ranges. Here you also find the Teatro Massimo ( it’s Wagner this season and it’s great!) and some quite elegant cafes and the city’s only hammam which is true Turkish style and good! Also you’ll find bookshops (Feltrinelli, Mondadori) that carry books in English and German. Out best experience was a cooking lesson with the Duchess of Palma in the kitchen of her palazzo nearby along with the splendid Capella Palatina.

Wij hadden een fantastische week in Palermo e.o. Wij werden door de eigenaresse van het appartement opgehaald in de stad bij de bushalte van de airport shuttle en onderweg naar ons logeeradres maakte ze ons wegwijs in de do's en dont's en highligts van Palermo. Midden in het oude centrum aangekomen in een klein straatje gingen we door een poort naar de patio. Die stond in de steigers en was midden in de verbouwing. Daar moest je even doorheen. Volgens de plannen gaat die erg mooi worden. De steigers eenmaal voorbij gaat er een brede trap naar meerdere appartementen. Binnen in het gebouw en in het appartement is het hoog en ruim. Je voelt je er meteen thuis. De foto's geven de gemoedelijke sfeer goed weer. Er is binnen een straal van slechts enkele straten van alles te zien en beleven zoals de Vucciria markt, terrasjes en lees ook de andere reviews maar. Ook op een paar honderd meter een enorme supermarkt.
De gastvrijheid van onze hospita was ongeëvenaard. Zij bood ons een lift aan naar Cefalu en later mochten wij mee een weekend de bergen in naar Petralia Soprano om te wandelen. Zij spreekt perfect Engels en is een onvermoeibare verteller. Het was een voorrecht even in echt Siciliaans gezelschap te verkeren!

Well situated a short walk off the main drag of Via Roma down proper atmospheric Italiano side streets and just behind Oratorio del Rosario di San Domenico - try not to be put off by the VERY extensive renovations behind the wooden double door entrance, it does look like an absolute battlefield and you may be forgiven for thinking what have I done? however, once up the huge marble stairs and into the apartment you will be pleasantly relieved - massive ceilings, two great balconies, very cosy, homely with extremely comfortable sofas - huge kitchen with loads of stuff to cook with, fridge was a bit dodgy but Sara the very friendly owner sorted out everything very quickly - There is a tiny shop opposite which sells sandwiches and beers and a few groceries, very popular spot with the friendly moped riding locals who did play cards into the early hours quite noisily most evenings - you can get free wi-fi outside this shop from the posh restaurant around the corner - the guys who hung out here were very friendly and helped us with the sticky door keys to the apartment on some occasions - the harbour is a stones throw away and has a few cool bars and some fresh fish restaurants that are a bit pricey but the food was excellent - as the city was so got we got the 806 bus from behind Politeama square most days to Modello beach, only takes half an hour 1.20 euro each - the sea is beautiful and loads of bars for food and drink there - much better than staying in a boring hotel - thoroughly reccommended place to stay if you want to get a feel of real palermo - nice one -
