A Palermo Palace ideal to discover it all!
We stayed in this apartment for 1 week in August 2013. It must be said, the place is wonderful. High ceilings, spacious rooms, wonderful energy.
Also the location is top. You can walk to all major points of interest, whether it be cultural, shopping or gourmet. Many markets nearby and a big supermarket. Safe as well.
All you need is available in the apartment, just as you would be in your own house.
On top, the host is a wonderful character! :-) A very helpful and energetic lady with hundreds of stories. And the heart in the right place.
Therefor it pains me to mention the following (but we should be honest about it, right!?): there were some minor points. Heat, noise and bugs.
The building IS a very old and beautiful palace and once it will be renovated, it will be a marvelous place, no doubt about it. But the construction works (which are also mentioned in some other reviews) seem to have moved up in time. They Do add to some discomfort in the building. Because it's an old palace with a central open space around which everything is built, all the noise goes upwards. To protect all the apartments, all the windows and doors coming out on this open space are shut with wooden plates. These, of course, can not hold back the noise. They do however keep out the light and cool air (the natural air conditioning pouring cooled air from the inner place into the rooms is blocked and only hot air from the windows directed to the outside of the building is coming in). As for the bugs (not musquitos), this might be a temporal nuisance (season?). We solved it by not using the most inner rooms (and sleeping all together in the living room) cause these back rooms were not aired enough and always in the dark (probably that made it welcome for the bugs).
In conclusion: A wonderful place with a wonderful host, but DO check with her how far the innovation works have progressed (e.g.if you plan to stay many hours in the apartment during the day) cause it might be more noisy than expected.
ps: Why am i 'noisy' about the noise? Because in those 3 weeks we traveled in sicily, 2 of our apartments were 'under renovation' without us knowing about it, and being woken up early in the morning by drilling and hammering, just up to noon, is not exactly what we pay for on that 1 holiday you 're searching for calm and rest. :-)
Owner's Response: Thanks a lot to Sebastian, one of my most sympathic guests.the review is 100 per cent realisti c and i apologize for the disconfort. On the other hand,it is impossible to explain anybody coming from north of Rome what titanic battle we have in this town in the hottest summer days to keep away mosquitos, flies, bugs, ants mice, expecially if the garbage collectors strike and suddenly the long sleeping renovating team has got the licence to end up the renovating works, which have started 4 years ago and thanks god, seems to be close to the conclusion...no where else in europe you find people working outside your window without you being informed long time before.from my side,i have been informing all the guests of the risks of some nuissance, and i have been lowering the price to the bottom.if the guest would have told me i would have come with a team of cleaners and we would have used steam to sterilize the house. But the guests told me at the end that they just moved the sleeping rooms away from the garden where the attack was coming from....hopefully this is the last summer of disconforl and dormitory prices......
