Overview

Aínsa-Sobrarbe House Rental Photos and Description

4 double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and capacity for 8/9 people

A truly magnificent stone manse built in 1689 stands in the charming village of Coscojuela de Sobrarbe, 8kms from Ainsa. The house has been lovingly restored retaining the original structure and materials and decorated with exquisite taste using period furniture. The atmosphere is at once rustic and yet very luxurious.

A solid oak door leads into the entrance hall, where the central feature, a noble stone staircase leads up to the second level. On the ground floor, the former stable and bodega have been respectively transformed into a beautiful living dining room and a kitchen with an original Aragonese table. Both rooms have wonderful rounded stone ceilings as well as stone floors and walls. This floor also houses a comfortable double room and independent toilet.

On the top level, one rustic stone double bedroom with balcony, perfect for enjoying morning breakfast, looks onto the village square. A second bedroom with window seats looks onto the front garden.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • pets not allowed
  • unsuitable for elderly or infirm

Fantastic experience - like a scene from Chocolat.

Following a recent four week tour of Northern Spain, and staying at a number of very good properties, we wanted to share our experience at The Manse in the tiny village of Coscojuela de Sobrarbe outside of Ainsa.
This beautifully restored stone house is attached to the old Church and sits on the edge of the village square. You enter the property through a large steel gate and then through an impressive solid timber door with a substantial lock and key.
Each of the rooms were impressive with the dining room and kitchen featuring curved stone ceilings and large windows looking over the valley below.
The kitchen was simple but offered all modern appliances inc. dishwasher.
The rear courtyard area featured a large stone BBQ and open area which was great anytime of day.
The entire place was kept warm via a large boiler and hot water was never a problem.
Every bedroom was spacious and had its own shower and toilet.
This home and the quietness of the village made for a nice change from the pace of San Sebastian - it was great to be a little out of Ainsa which is a lovely town but sometimes hard to park in.
Our group of six adults thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience of staying in such an historical and well restored house - the only thing which should be mentioned was the need to sit in the front courtyard to get wifi connection, which in a place like this seems very unimportant.
Finally, to top off our stay, we discovered the only restaurant in the village called Casa Falceto (which we also reviewed on TripAdvisor) and met its owner and very enthusiastic Chef named Jesus. Be sure to visit this lovely restaurant but at the very least make the effort to stay in The Manse - it is impressive and you won't be disappointed.

The quiet village of Coscojuela de Sobrarbe is a 8 min drive from Ainsa, the main village in the region of Sobrarbe. There you will find all the sports adventure companies, restaurants, bars, banks, supermarkets, tourist office and the weekly outdoor fruit and veg market on Tuesday morning. Ainsa is located at the crossroads to three areas of outstanding nature beauty: the Ordesa National Park home to Monte Perdido the largest limestone mountain in Europe, the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park home to Aneto and Posets the first and second highest mountains in the Pyrenees and the Sierra de Guara Natural Park, world renown for its canyoning. All three parks offer an endless array of outdoor activites from one hour strolls along the valley floor to 3000m+ peaks like Posets and Perdido. Alpine wildflowers can be enjoyed all summer long, though May and June are truly spectacular months. There are good chances of spotting marmots, deer, 'sarrios' Pyrenean mountain goats, vultures.
