Situated in the historical centre of a little known village called Malvito, Calabria. The property has one double bedroom with a double bed and a single bed, a wardrobe and a chest of drawers. A kitchen/living area with a cooker, fridge/freezer, a dining table and all utensils needed. It also has a double bed settee and an open fireplace for those cosy winter nights. The bathroom has a toilet, bidet and shower in its own cubicle. It also has a washing machine for your comfort. The property also has a separate toilet, a balcony and an outside terrace area in the historical centre of the village.

Malvito is a small village based near to the vast Pollino mountain range in Calabria. It stands at 500 meters above sea level.Nearby is a National Park and a 20 minute drive away gets you to a beach. Locally there are great picnic/barbecue areas with beautiful flowing rivers to keep your beers cold. Nearby (1hour drive) is La Sila mountains, which is Italy's largest nature reserve. In San Sosti, a village a 10 minute drive away lies La Madonna del Pettoruto, a famous Madonna in the catholic culture, where nuns and monks still live. The beaches are shingle and the sea is crystal clear. At the town of Paola, a 35 minute drive away, you will find activities such as scuba diving and sailing. It also boasts an ancient church where Saint Francesco spent the last years of his life. There are many olive groves in the area and home made extra virgin olive oil is always readily available for purchase. There are a few small shops in the village for the purchase of provisions.

My husband and I fell in love with Malvito at first sight. It is simply a very beautiful place. The mountaintops are sprinkled with other villages and below the valleys are dressed in many shades of green. Goats meander with bells gently clanging around their necks. The castle ruins on the hill inspire. There are grapes everywhere and red peppers, huge fig trees, oleander and bougainvilla. We watched the sun rise and set from our balcony, ate at the pizzeria, saw the local soccer team play and hiked everywhere. We were lucky enough to be present for the feast day of their patron saint. The festivities were lovely and memorable.

Our landlord, Carmelo, was very attentive to our needs and made our stay most enjoyable. Our flat was well-equipped, clean, comfortable and in working order. We enjoyed the ease of being there. The pace was slow and relaxed, the town sleepy and right out of a picture book. If you want to see Italian countryside at its best, this is it. A very very sweet place.

hidden gem

we had no idea what to expect except internet pix but were more than pleased with this light, bright, modernised apartment home: high celings, large rooms, and fully equipped (once we learned to take advantage of the efficient gas stove) the apt. could use a microwave or toaster, but it was easy to improvise! make sure you don't mind an uphill walk from your carpark...for us it was a reminder we were stepping back to a simpler time in this simpatico, magical, medieval hill village/fortress
Owner's Response: So happy that you enjoyed your time in Malvito. The apartment is bang in the historical centre of the village, perched on a hill top, so uphill walking is something you definately have to get used to (but the downhill is great!)

off the beaten path but well worth the trip to this tiny hilltop village. We stayed a week in fall 2007 and enjoyed this apt...nothing fancy but very neat and clean. Owner and caretaker were very nice and helpful.
