The complex accommodates up to 16 guests in three guest houses: 10, 4 and 2/unit

Il Mulino di Castelvecchio is a beautifully renovated and uniquely decorated sixteenth century stone mill which is able to provide accomodation for up to 16 guests. The property consists of three separate guest buildings; the large main house “Il Mulino” (mill) and two other small stone houses, 'La Vicinale' and 'Il Torrente' as well as a modern swimming pool, all situated in the peaceful surroundings of the Cesana river valley and four acres of forest. Wrought iron entrance gates access the entirely fenced grounds (including the parking area). The unique configuration of the guest houses enables our guests to enjoy either their privacy and/or group gatherings. Il Mulino is an ideal holiday rental for several couples, families, larger groups who wish to vacation together in a superbly furnished 'home away from home'. Both La Vicinale and Il Torrente are the perfect size for a romantic escape for a vacationing couple, or a delightful retreat for a couple with one or two children.

The largest and main structure of the property, 'Il Mulino', (the mill) is an elegantly decorated and exquisitely furnished multi-level guest house. The upper level has a beautiful large living room with terra cotta floors, high ceilings, media centre and a lovely fireplace. Just off the living room are four big, unique, beautiful master bedrooms each with its own gorgeous en-suite. On the lower level there is a magnificent tavern/kitchen with ancient stone walls, a cozy sitting area by the large fireplace and a dining table that easily seats ten people. The kitchen has all modern appliances; gas stove top cooking elements, electric oven, dishwasher, refridgerator and is completely appointed. The kitchen's double doors open onto a private stone patio area with a wall of jasmine, potted flowers, and a large outdoor table that seats up to16 for dining 'al fresco'. We have lovingly prepared every detail of 'Il Mulino' and we hope that you will visit us soon.

About Jay Arcangeli

This unique and historical property , an ancient water mill which had served the surrounding rural commmunity for centuries had, even in it's state of almost total abandon, a special feeling about it, an extreme 'cachè ', an aura of romanticism and enchantment.

Jay, who likes to be with and wanted to work with people, desired to be able to work outdoors and to have her animals with her on a daily basis and not to be forever cooped up in an office, outlined a creative, tentative solution for her very personal and quite particular 'wish list'.

On a specific, 'wish list' family scouting outing, the discovery of the the old mill beside the Cesana river in the lovely rural area of Colle di Buggiano enthralled all three members of her family.

The ancient rock structures which formed the Mill complex had good bones but were in desperate need of a patient, loving and definately 'workoholic' owner. It was though, indeed love at first

sight!

A family effort and the complete collaboration of her Italian father

Giuseppe, Tuscan, born in Abetone in the Appenini mountains and her Canadian mother Donna, born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan enabled this young Italian gal, born in Milano, Italy and who passed her years of school at Lucca and first years in the working world in Florence to become, at the age of 25 the proud owner of the old mill property and the qualification of a young Italian 'imprenditore'.

The plan was, after serious restoring, renovation and the creation of a new swimming pool in what was originally the ancient Mill 'pond' along with beautiful surrounding gardens, to open a unique new vacation structure in the peaceful surroundings of the Cesana river valley and four acres of forest. A restful, romantic and elegant haven.

Although this property is only 8 km. from our home in Montecarlo, Lucca, we were not at all familiar with this fantastic little corner of our dear Tuscany. After dicovering the beauty and the nature of this area, so near to our home, during the family's 'wish list' search we decided, as a family, that we HAD to bring the Mill back to life, and that it would become a part of Jay's life and work for the future years to come.

Our best decision this holiday

We stayed at ‘Il Torrente’ in June 2011. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, but well situated retreat in Tuscany.

Jay and Donna gave us a very warm welcome, they are lovely people, work hard, and are passionate about their business. They are everything you hope for when you arrive somewhere new.

The first thing you notice is the attention to detail in the accommodation, after previous lodgings in Italy we felt we had finally struck gold. The building materials are top class and the general decor is tasteful and eclectic; this is no Ikea filled box without a personality (The online pictures do not do it justice). The kitchen is smart, modern and very well equipped, lovely shower and bathroom too. The TV is no flatscreen wonder, but we didn’t go to Tuscany to watch TV!

Private outdoor space is compact, but this is a retreat not a resort. The pool area is kept very clean and the pool itself appears to be filtered freshwater, a great change from mouthfuls of chlorine. The general surroundings of the forest and stream alongside give a great feeling of seclusion and relaxation.

Florence, Pisa & Lucca are all within easy reach for daytrips, the closest of major towns Montecatini - useful for those looking for a train, feels a bit of a cheap tourist trap. For those not willing to dally in Italy’s fine deli shops there is a COOP supermarket a few minutes drive away in Buggiano, with a great choice of food and essentials.

We arrived by car, the drive is initially daunting down the steep hill, but presents no real problems as long as you take it easy. Parking behind automatic gates (you have the key) mean you feel secure even in this remote location.

‘Il Torrente’ was by far the best of our 4 stops in Italy this summer. It gives great value for money and made us feel relaxed and cared for; highly recommended.

Mulino di Castelvecchio, Easter in

We spent a quiet and peaceful week at Easter in the house " Il Torrente" at the Mulino di Castelvecchio. It is a lovely house and the surroundings are very beautiful. We enjoyed sitting outside immersed in the sounds of the forest, the nearby river and the singing of birds. We found it to be a totally relaxing place!

It is an easy drive from the property to the cities Pisa and Lucca and only a 5 minute drive to Montecatini, from where you can take a train and in 30 minutes be right in the center of Florence. Train tickets are cheap and the parking lot in front of the railway station makes parking simple.

Everything is close by, but a car (preferably small) is necessary, unless of course you just wish to use the many walking paths in the immediate vicinity, exploring, walking, relaxing and enjoying this fascinating rural tuscan area.

Our hosts Jay, Donna and her husband Joe are very friendly, extremely helpful and do everything they can to ensure that you enjoy your holiday.

We thank them for a lovely Easter vacation!l

Capodanno - ......... C’era una volta un vecchio mulino trascurato e triste che credeva di concludere i suoi giorni cosi .... fino a quando arrivarono gli “Arcangeli”, che con loro amore, lo trasformarono in un luogo da favola .....................
