This is one bedroom with a private bath. It is on ground level, we live upstairs. The room is very large and has a king size bed and bunk beds with a sitting area.
We are in a secluded area so it is peaceful, but we are close enough to the highway that getting to all the island activities will be easy. Breakfast is included and will be made specifically for your needs and desires. I bake gluten and dairy free and can also make vegan selections.
You will have access to Dish TV, internet, hair dryer, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, refrigerator, washer and dryer.
We will be happy to suggest any of the wonderful activities that are available around the island.
We are located about half way between Kailua Kona and Hilo. Kula Kai Caverns, South Point, Punaluu Bakery, Green Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach, and Volcanoes National Park are all relatively close.
Over 40 years ago I was diagnosed allergic to wheat, dairy, and onion. Now it is difficult to find gluten free foods, back then it was almost impossible.
I taught school on the mainland for 35 years. The last 13 year were spent teaching science lab to 4th and 5th graders. Many of the items on this island were topics I taught.
Sandy Stovall purchased this house in 2013
This home gave me a chance to share the gluten free foods that I have learned to create.
.....to recharge my batteries and start my relocation process. Sandy and her husband Andy have a beautiful place and treated me with the kindest spirit. The accomodations were impeccable and clean. All the amentities of home and more. The atmosphere was peaceful and calm. For me, the best part was breakfast. Deliciously served with fresh local fruit and kept me satisfied til dinner. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for more than a month. Located in an ideal location to see the sights in both the south to southeastern portion of the island (Na'alehu, South Point, and Volcano) as well as the western portion(Kailua Kona). Sandy and Andy, thanks for a wonderful stay.
I feel terrible that I took this long to write my review, but life gets busy sometimes! My husband and I stayed here for almost the entire month of December in 2014, and it is one of my favorite VRBO properties we've ever rented. The owners, Sandy and Andy, are the kindest, friendliest people we've ever stayed with. The best part is that they aren't OVERLY friendly, meaning the few times we interacted it was very comfortable but they were never invasive or bothersome. I'm a late sleeper but my husband is an early riser, and Sandy would make breakfast for him almost every day. I would definitely come back here, and it was actually sad saying goodbye to the owners as they feel like friends now. :)
Here are some basics about the property:
Lots of space, this is a studio apartment on the first level that is HUGE and has a big comfy king size bed (I have a bad back and this bed was awesome) and a bunk bed with two twins. The air flow is great and there are three ceiling fans which keep the room at the perfect temp all the time. The bathroom is large and has a huge shower with plenty of hot water. This is probably the CLEANEST property I've ever stayed in. I mean it was pristine! Sandy obviously takes cleanliness very seriously, and it showed.
There is a covered parking spot you can use, easy to get in and out of. There is an outdoor kitchen right outside the door of the studio, and it is quite large and has everything you would need. There is also an outdoor eating space that is very large, you could seat at least 6 at the table, a few at the bar, and there are another couple comfortable seats that you can just relax in. Although it is outside it still felt very private. You can't see the neighbors at all, and I almost never saw the owners downstairs, so even though it is a shared space it feels like it was just ours. Sandy would leave me little treats like exotic fruit in the fridge on some mornings. Some from her own garden. It really made my day! :)
Although the location is a bit of a drive from Hilo and Kona, I think it worked well for us. We wanted to see the whole island and both towns are equidistant from this property. It is pretty close to the Volcano park and very close to south point and the big black sand beach. Plus the location made it very very quiet which was exactly what we wanted.
Overall I would highly recommend this place. Take my word for it, you will like this place and make some new friends in the owners too!
Our stay could not have been better. Our hosts were on site and made sure anything we needed was there. Every morning we had a different delicious breakfast with fresh fruit in addition to the meal. Easy to get to. I highly and I mean, highly recommend this B&B.
This is a wonderful property with the gorgeous sights and sounds Hawaii is know for right out of the back door. I stayed a wonderful 9 days and 8 nights in this outstanding Bed and Breakfast. They offer complimentary breakfast every morning to you and your family, that is delicious and also health friendly. The Bedroom is a wonderful spacious area equipped with a plush King Size bed, a premium package of Dish TV at your fingertips, a wonderful spacious bathroom with handmade soaps, a well stocked spacious shower with all the towels you could ever want/need, equipped with a washer/dryer combo outside along with a picnic table, has a spacious car port that will fit most luxury sized vehicles. Overall this is a pretty sweet deal considering that it is just a mere 30 minutes outside of town giving you serenity and a secluded vacationing area with just a short drive into the beautiful city and tourist attractions of Kona,Hawaii. P.S. Ask for Fresh Lilikoi syrup for your pancakes!
Since we are rural, it takes longer than 15 minutes to get to many of the attractions, but included in the available activities are hiking, deep sea fishing, parasailing, surfing, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, jet skiing, submarine ride, horseback riding, and atv riding. There are chocolate farm tours, mushroom farm tours, macadamia farm tours, a zoo, botanical gardens, water falls, and farmer's markets just to name a few of the things to do.
