Our charming cottage (fully renovated in 2005/2006) is located in the heart of 'Pays d´Auge', a peaceful and hilly valley, and enjoys breathtaking views on apple orchards and pastures. Although set in a very tranquil, unspoiled environment, perfect place for several outdoor activities, the property is perfectly situated to allow our guests to comfortably discover all Normandy highlights. The cottage has all modern comfort, is tastefully decorated and is partly furnished with our family antiques, which gives the house a very individual touch. There is plenty of room for 6 adults + 1 baby. On the ground floor there is a large, very well equipped kitchen with a dining area, a spacious living room with fire place and an adjacent study/library as well as a shower room with WC. The comfortable bedrooms (2 double, 1 twin) are set on the first floor as well as the bathroom with separate WC. The property includes area of some 1,5 ha. Directly close to the kitchen there is a nice terrace

The property is located in the little village 'Saint-Ouen-le-Houx' (150 inhabitants) known for its 17th century church. All Normandy´s tourist attractions are within easy reach (about more or less 1 hour drive away): the beaches of the 'Côte Fleurie' (Deauville, Trouville, Cabourg), the D-Day landing beaches ('Côte de Nacre'), the tourist towns of Honfleur, Caen, Rouen and Bayeux, several castles, famous studs ('Haras du Pin' is worth a visit, not only for passionate horse people!) and beautiful gardens. In the nearby villages (Vimoutiers and Livarot are both 4 km away) you will find a lot of shops (butcheries, backeries, pharmacies, gift shops, antiques shops, supermarket) restaurants and the typical French 'cafés'. We also encourage you to discover the flair of rural French markets. Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives market (about 15 mn drive away) for example is one of the biggest and most famous in the region.

Additional information about rental rates

  • A non-refundable amount of 25 % of the rental is required upon booking. The balance and a damage refundable deposit of EUR 150,- is due 6 weeks before arrival.
    You have the possibility to do the final cleaning yorself. Alternatively we can do it for you. In this case we would charge additional EUR 70,-.
    Good quality bed linen can also be rented at EUR 12,- each for the double beds and EUR 10,- each for the single beds.
    Water, electricity and wood are included.
    Booking are from Saturday 17h30 to Saturday 10h00 however outside high season we can agree on special terms.

It is a nice and good place where we would like to come back for a few weeks next year. We have highly appreciated the good quality of the air, the little trails and some memorable places (Mr. & Mrs. Raviez, August 2006). We really enjoyed Les Barbottieres. What a fabulous region Normandy is ! The house is delightful & we hope to return next summer. Thanks once again for your attention to detail & a lovely house. oasis of tranquility in Normandy

Our family had a glorious week in this house - I only wish we could have stayed longer. The house was spotless on arrival, wonderfully characterful (it was originally a cider press) and in the most beautiful situation. You can relax of an evening in the garden with no sound except the tinkling of sheep bells on the other side of the valley. The area is one of the most attractive parts of Normandy and is especially good for cycling - some hilly parts, but lots of scope for easy rides. There is an old railway track extending about 20km which is now an excellent cycle track. It's well worth getting the 1cm: 1km scale maps of the area (available from supermarkets) so you can explore the many footpaths. We had a slight glitch with the washing machine about which the owner was exemplary - we phoned her and she sorted it out the next day. We didn't even need to stay in for the repair man. All in all a lovely place for a holiday.

Les Barbottieres

The house was lovely: newly tastefully decorated and comfortable - though the bed (great duvet) was a bit hard for my husband's liking. I loved the open aspect; when it's wet you can still enjoy the light and views. The house is well equipped and there were plenty of basic items such as oil and even coffee and milk (what a lovely touch) which one is expected to replace, of course. There was constant hot water - and excellent showers. The path up to the house is steep and a bit hairy in the car. Livarot, the closest town has no restaurants, but the shops are good and everyone friendly and helpful. Walking around the quiet roads is easy, but we spent quite a long time in the car because attractions (Bayeux, Normandy Landings, Honfleur, Mont St Michel) are quite a distance. Falaise is well worth visiting and isn't very far.. I think the house presents good value for money though the compulsory cleaning charge seems a bit steep. It would have been good to have had the deposit returned in cash - money transfers seem unnecessarily complicated. Anyway, it is a lovely spot for a holiday and I congratulate the owner on her careful and loving restoration.

Ein Platz zum Entspannen und sich wohl fühlen

Wir (zwei junge Familien mit Babys) hatten eine wunderschöne Zeit in dem liebevoll eingerichteten Haus in traumhafter Lage. Die Austattung des Hauses ist super und das tolle Grundstück drum herum sehr idyllisch. Die netten Nachbarn (Esel & Pferd) haben besonders unsere Kinder sehr erfreut.
Wir waren häufig am Meer und haben kleinere Ausflüge in der Umgebung unternommen.

Wir freuen uns schon jetzt auf einen nächsten Urlaub in "Les Barbottières" und danken der sehr netten Vermieterin.
