About Chris and Cheryl Jennings

Cheryl grew up and raised her family in Mariposa, and is the proud mother of two and grandmother of 13 grandchildren. Most of her family resides in the Mariposa area. Cheryl is well known in the community and has worked for CAL FIRE for 20+ years. Chris has always had a knack for entertaining people and was a guide for Salmon and Steelhead fishing on California's most pristine rivers. As a guide his sole mission was to give his customers a once in a lifetime experience that they would remember forever. We are approaching the vacation rental business with the same goals. We want you to have everything you need, so you don't have to worry about the little things and can focus on your vacation itself. We will be here to help you with anything you need.

Chris and Cheryl Jennings purchased this house in 2001

Why Chris and Cheryl Jennings chose Mariposa

This beautiful property has been in our family for many years. We built The Whispering Pines House in 2001 so that we could be close to my Grandmother. We took care of her for 11 years before her Alzheimer’s got so severe that she needed more care than we could give her. She is now in a beautiful, quiet, private home with 6 other ladies that she has fun with and is able to receive the medical attention she requires. She is still a huge part of our family and we love her dearly. Now we are choosing to share our scenic home with others and provide them with a wonderful vacation spot in our beautiful country we are proud to call home.

What makes this house unique

Our property provides the peace and serenity of the mountains and we are thankful to call this our home. If you sit outside and just listen or look you will hear the birds singing and you might even see a deer, fox, turkey, or possibly a bear. Over the years we have seen them all. The town of Mariposa offers small town quaintness with its unique shops and local history. The surrounding areas, including Yosemite, offer many outdoor adventures and you will never get bored here if you enjoy the outdoors.

You Can't Go Wrong!

  • 5 of 5

Chris was an awesome host and had everything ready for us, including the fire in the fire pit going, when we arrived. The house was clean and super well stocked with everything you need + more! Just watch out for the candy dish! It's all the little extras that really makes this place special. Thank you Chris for the attention to detail and for making our stay a wonderful one. Can't wait to go back!

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

This Yosemite Mountain Escape was absolutely wonderful. There was not one thing you could possibly need that this place does not cover. We called the cabin the lazy cabin because it was so warm and comfortable we had a hard time getting away. It was perfect for my father who is in a wheel chair. SO much room, activities, and the SPA!!! OMG amazing! We spent every day in the spa at one time or another. We got lucky and it snowed which was amazing too! We had our dogs who loved running free on the property and visiting the neighbors. Chris is wonderful and very helpful with fun tips on where to get great food, activities, and he is just a phone call away if you need anything, but truly they thought of everything. We rented many cabins in the area and this is by far the best! I would highly recommend this stay you will not be disappointed. We plan to rent many times more in the future.

All you can wish place!

  • 5 of 5

I wish I can give this place 10 stars!

We have 3- nights stay and absolutely love it (I wish we can stay longer)!

4 adults and 2 kids -we have lot of space left.

The house is very light-full, big, well furnished and super cozy. I love rooster collection in the kitchen (I have my own in my kitchen), so homy :))) Our guests from Russia were very impressed!

Chris is so nice and "welcome" person, we felt like real guest in his place. Wine, fruits and candies! :) Nice surprise!

Play room is good for any ages - all kinds of board games, ping-pong and air-hockey!

Hot- tub was a blast!!!! We use it 2 times a day and my kids doesn't want go out.

The property land is nice forest full of butterflies, flowers and deers. NO neighbors, LOVE IT!

Down the road we find beautiful horses ( no horseback riding), but you can pet them :) Horses are very friendly, black one is extremely beautiful - her name is Little one :) The owner is very nice person.

Drive to Yosemite is around 35-40 minutes/ drive to Mariposa is 10 minutes/ We find very nice historical museum in Mariposa, have old fashion wagon ride there and find good restaurant.

Defiantly, we will come back! Best recommendation!

Yosemite Spring Break Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this place!!! This house has everything you need, it's a great place for kids and adults. Loved the open concept kitchen, dining and living room area. The adults and kids had tons of fun in the playroom & outside with the horse shoe pit. The drive to Yosemite is about 45min to 1hr but it was great to come back to a home were you could relax outside next to a fire and hot tub!!! The evenings were peaceful and quiet. Chris has everything you need in this home, the only thing you need to bring is food and drinks. We will definitely be back again!!! Thank you Chris for your great hospitality!!!

Just Great

  • 5 of 5

Put simply, if you're headed to Yosemite, this place rocks.

10 of us stayed here for my 37th b-day on the 20/21st of March 2015 and this made for the perfect place to have a few drinks, play a few games, and relax after a long day of hiking Yosemite. It's an easy, scenic 45-60 minute drive to the park (depending on if you hit a traffic snarl going into the park like we did). That may sound like a lot, but there aren't that many options closer and the little town of Mariposa is pretty close with a few restaurant options (and a gas station notably cheaper than the ones by the park).

Chris showed us around the property when we arrived and you can tell they've done a ton of work updating and landscaping the place. The ping-pong and horseshoes were a lot of fun and the new hot tub is a pretty swanky new model replete with a "massage chair" area that we loved. There's even an Xbox you can bust out with a handful of games. They even stocked the place with a couple bottles of wine, some cheese and crackers, and some coffee beans and candy to boot.

Sleeping arrangements - There are 3 bedrooms (2 queens and a king), so with our 10, two people slept on the two queen pull-outs in the living room (they had a lot of extra space), and two had to sleep on twin beds in the garage. If everybody needs a dedicated bedroom in your group, this place sleeps only 6, but if your group is flexible, you can make 10 work (12 if two couples don't mind sleeping on literally adjacent pull-out couches).

Overall, this is a great place for a group of 6-10 people and it's a perfect little private country getaway. Yosemite is awesome and so is this house. Next time we head up to the park, I know where I'm staying! :)

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a detailed review Ben, we are glad you had a wonderful birthday at our whispering pines house. We do hate for any of our guests to have to sleep on twin beds, we really bought them for the kids, but sometimes some adults get them to if there is a lot of people. We like to call the garage the game room, but your right it really is a garage just not used for that anymore. Hopefully we will turn that into bedrooms some day to better accommodate the larger groups that we sometimes get. Right now though we try to give our customers every option we can to make there vacation the best that it can be. Soon we will have another vacation rental ready close by so we will have even more options. Look forward to having you back again, and thank you for letting our future customers know what they have to look forward to. Sincerely, Chris Jennings
