The house is situated between the small village of Meco and the Atlantic, about 500 m from the beach. The village lives mostly from the local tourists, there are no hotels and when the season is over, people like to visit Meco because of the good restaurants and to have a walk on the beach. The beach of Meco got famous in the 70es as one of the first nudist beaches, today everybody does as he likes and Meco was “discovered” by the Lisbon high-society and artists. During the summer-season there is a quite busy night life in the village but as the house is not in the center of the village you want notice much. Fresh vegetables you can buy from our farmer next to the house and some local women make fresh bread over the open fire. In the village you have everything you need, pharmacy, bank, little shops as well as fresh fish 6 days a week. If you do not feel like cooking, order some fine dishes from the next restaurant and enjoy it on our terrace.

Meco is located in the middle of a natural park called “Serra da Arrabida”. The coast is often wild and difficult to explore, but the next sand-beach to our house (500 m) is about 5 km long. Lisbon is a very busy city with a lot of bars and restaurants and only 30 km away from our house. Once you put down your luggage you feel miles away from any civilization. Our place is ideal to combine relaxing holidays with a lot of trips to the most important places around Lisbon, like Sintra (summer residence of the former Kings of Portugal), Estoril and Cascais with the Casino. Sesimbra is around the corner and you can enjoy a nice ride through the natural park of the Serra da Arrabida. From Setubal you can use a car-ferry to the peninsula of Troia where you can play a round of golf, go swimming or go on for a trip to the deserted area of the Alentejo with the many beaches in between. You can play golf at about 10 different courses all around 15 to 50 km from our place.

Additional information about rental rates

  • Notes to the rental rates: 20% down payment when you book, the rest is due 6 weeks before holiday begin. To the final price we add a bond of Euro 200. Euro 200 are given back when the house is returned in order. Euro 50 are for the final cleaning. In case you have to cancel, we will only keep the down payment if we can not find another client. We only accept bank transfer.
  • A price discount is given if there are only two people occupying the house, if you stay longer or if you would like to occupy the house during the winter season. Exchange of houses: As we love to travel as well, we are also interested in changing houses with other owners.
  • I'm also a Private Plane Owner and a Pilot. The plane is a Piper Arrow 200 hp. Pilot + 3 pax. Local flights are available.

Cosy 3 bedroom house with pool in a charming area

We were very pleased with our holiday in Meco. The area is pieceful and extremely beautiful. There is a short distance to cities such as Sesimbra and Lisbon making it possible to do day trips to these destinations. During our holiday (in the end on June) there was nice cool wind blowing from the Atlantic even though the days were very hot.

The house was very good quality for the price we paid. From the backyard there is a beautiful view to fields and valleys. The pool area was a very nice add-on to the cosy house. The fence made it suitable also for kids. Inside the house it was cosy, comfortable and cool enough to sleep during nights.

The landlord was very helpful. The not functioning microwave was replaced within 24 hours. We were also given a GPS for navigating in the area.

Please note: A car is recommended. Even though the beach and the closest shops are within a walking distance, the roads are not planned for walking.

Very nice, clean and family-friendly property and very helpful and friendly owner.

For shopping it´s good to have a car around as no shops are close.

Well kept house close to nature

The house was exactly as described, well kept, fully equipped and situated in rural surroundings. Small supermarkets and restaurants are within walking distance and provide everything you may need. The owner answers the phone and organizes local craftsmen to fix anything if you need it. The object is situated in an untouched area which gives you the feeling of staying in a natural reservation and not rather close to the country's capital. In fact the southern part of the peninsula is regarded as Parque Natural.
The beaches are clean, far from being crowded and within walking distance but you have to use the same small road as those who come by car (it can get a bit dusty). Expect some wind and sometimes rough waters, perfect for surfing but disliked by our two 7 year old girls. This leads to one of the biggest attractions of the area, especially if you are travelling with kids: Lagoa do Albufeira (check it out at www.maps.google,com) is a huge laguna which provides both: shallow water for kids and huge waves for the adventurous. The place has a small restaurant, one or two shops, a parking area and some flying merchants selling pastry, but again no large hotels, no tourist traps. It is a 5 minutes drive from the house and kids love it.
In summary, we got good value by renting the object and recommend it to those who want to taste the quietness of rural Portugal within a one-hour drive to Lisbon’s attractions. A car is a necessity.

Wir -2 Erwachsene und 3 Kinder 15/12/3- kamen an und Artur hat uns freundlich empfangen. Nach der Begehung von Haus&Garten und einer kleinen Führung durch Meco haben wir schon gewußt, daß Urlaub pur auf uns wartet. Die Beschreibung des Hauses entsprach genau der Realität. Freundlich und zweckmäßig eingerichtet haben wir uns rund herum wohlgefühlt. Ganz besonders haben wir alle den gepflegten Garten mit Pool genossen. Aber auch der saubere Sandstrand in der Nähe, speziell die Lagune, hat es uns angetan. Für die Erkundung der Umgebung und die Ausflüge nach Lissabon ist auf jeden Fall ein Auto zu empfehlen. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten gibt es im Dorf und in den Einkaufszentren auf dem Weg nach Lissabon. Doch sollte man unbedingt auch die in der Nähe liegenden Restaurants mit seinen Fischgerichten ausprobieren. Lissabon hat auch die Kinder beeindruckt. Kurzum: wir kommen gerne wieder.

You open the entry door and you feel like at home, in total we were six persons.
The house is affectionately and generously furnished. Particularly the large terrace and the final garden invited to the vacation outdoor in the sun. Our children enjoyed the large clean pool with pleasures (but also the adults). Since the house does not heat itself from the sun, a pleasant sleep is guaranteed. The beautiful house complex consists of five parties, but you do not have at all the feeling that the neighbours could disturb. Everyone has his own range!
Arthur, the owner welcomed us very amicably, did a great briving and his borrowed navigation system was heplful on our journeys. The nearby sites such as Sintra, Cascais, Lisboa, Cabo Espichel, Serra da Arrábida and Sesimbra are worth a visit in any case. To the culinary benefit you should miss the wine and cheese route in no case. In addition, Meco and its long sand beach make the vacation perfectly. The gigantic waves impress much and the beach is cleanly, spaciously and beautiful. Meco and also the neighboring place Alfarim have within a walking distance many delicious restaurants with typically Portuguese kitchen and small shops, where you can get everything.
Pharmacy and cash dispenser are also present.
Above all however the fishmonger with its daily fresh offer, animated us frequently and gladly to ignite the house owned barbeque. If one liked to evade the tourism and the overcrowded cities, is that house in Meco the correct address -Portugal purely with its extremely nice and helpful inhabitants. Looking forward for the next visit.
