Tordera Vacation Rental apartment

We had a wonderful trip to Spain this year. The apartment was large and the best part was the wonderful terrace where we enjoyed many evenings drinking local rose wine and basking in the evening warmth with only the sound from the windchimes.

The apartment was well equipped and although we ate out in the evenings mostly we had a few brunches at home. It was nice to be in a local town instead of a tourist resort. The caretakers were pleasant (I speak Spanish) and helpful.

The town is quiet and peaceful and v convenient for beaches, Girona, shopping and Barcelona. We had a car but there is a train station that has regular services to both places. We loved Girona centre, v Catalan, nice restaurants and shopping. Barcelona needs no introduction! The beaches around, including Tossa de Mar (where we hoped, but failed, to get a glimpse of Kylie Minogue!) are lovely and there is a boat service between them. I love boats so this was great for me.

The beach nearby at Santa Susanna is v clean and has a few chiringuitos (beach bars) where you can have an ice cold shandy/ beer/ soda in the shade. The water is lovely and gets deep quickly, good waves in the afternoon.

Lloret De Mar is sometimes notorious but there are some great restaurants and also the usual fast food for fussy kids. There is an amazing bar built on 3 levels into the rock just outside the town, you can have sangria (including white sangria made with cava) while listening to chill out sounds mingling with the sound of the sea.

Overall, highly recommended as a touring base, plenty of space in the apartment and real Spanish style - the terrace is massive so v handy for relaxing. There is not a huge amount to do in Tordera itself other than local bars and a few traditional restaurants but it is central for everything and you feel you have had an authentic local experience.
