Overview

Pahoa House Rental Photos and Description

Get away from it all yet be so close to so much! Discover true Hawaii.

Relax & Rejuvenate in our comfy, brand new jungle retreat. This truly is an 'Escape from the Ordinary!'

This area is lush and green and has the best weather on the island. The prevailing trade winds blow from just the right direction to keep the temperature pleasant all year round. Tropical, lush and green with fresh clean air (literally the cleanest air on earth!) and a multitude of fabulous things to see and do.

This lovely home is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and designed for ultra comfortable off-grid living. Located in the Black Sands community, surrounded by jungle, the coqui frogs sing you to sleep at night and it's especially exciting when we get an intense rain shower at night, as the roof is metal, and the sounds are awesomely jungle!

You'll find a guest book at the house with details and directions to spectacular spots all within just a few miles from the house, including 'secret spots' that you will not find in any tourist book.

This is the perfect spot for adventure seekers and those who do not depend on TV for entertainment.

So very, very nice to get away from it all!

In this area called Puna, we are blessed to have so many great things to see and do. Here you will find pristine waters and the cleanest air on earth. Our home is just minutes to beaches such as Kehena, or enjoy a fabulous hike along the kings trail to the white sand beach called Shipmans. Swim in natural geo-thermically heated hot pools such as Ahalanui and the queens bath at Isaac Hale, world-class snorkeling at Kapoho Tide Pools and Champagne Ponds, surfing at Isaac Hale beach park, fishing at Mackenzie Park, spelunking, lava viewing, natural steam vents, fantastic markets and the quaint village of Pahoa with it's outdoor market, quaint shops, family-friendly and fine dining.

We are near Kalani with a vast array of activities including massage, yoga, 'static dance' and a fabulous vegan restaurant, or just wander the gorgeous acreage.

Every Sunday, just up hwy 130 you'll find the biggest, best and most diversified farmer's market in the entire Hawaiian Island chain - The Maku'u market, with everything you would expect and much more including live music and dancing.

Every Wednesday evening, just 2 miles away at Uncle Robert's you'll find a 'must do' - a fantastic night market complete with local artisans, fabulous local food vendors, Kava bar and live music and dancing - you may even be able to take in a hula show! Eat, drink & be merry! Sway to the rhythm of authentic Hawaiian slack key and ukulele and enjoy the sense of community here.

A trip to remember

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was one that my family and I will always remember. Off grid living was such a great experience...a challenge for my kids but deffinetly something they needed! We got to spend Quality time together without the interruptions of technology. The house was very clean and welcoming! We all loved it!

Great escape - off the beaten track

  • 5 of 5

A peaceful environment surrounded by lush vegetation. This is not your typical tourist destination; you feel imbedded in the local culture, with quaint markets and lava fields nearby. The home was open plan with an enclosed spacious lanai and more than adequately equipped. Overall we had a great experience and saw a lot.

Property is not read to accept visitors,

  • 1 of 5

This property was very disappointing, poorly prepared and inaccurately presented. While we were aware that it was " off line" this was not clearly defined. It was casually mentioned that we were to use the rental car battery as a power supply.

Upon arrival we found a jumble of extension cords, without any instructions on the operating procedures. The propane powered refrigerator was not operating. We were unable to start it. There is no mobile phone coverage in the area. A neighbor graciously let us use her landline to reach the owners local contact. It was determined that the propane tank was empty. She supplied us with her own propane tank, connected it, and assisted in getting the fridge operating, which is a somewhat tricky procedure. She also provided a generator for the house lights, since the necessary inverter could not be found. The water pump still needed to be powered by the car battery.

Until the owner installs a proper "off grid " electrical system, makes arrangements to have the property adequately prepared for occupancy, we would strongly discourage anybody from considering this place. Unless you are technically savvy, this can turn into a nightmare. Using the rental car battery as the power source is not an acceptable arrangement, and surely not permitted by the rental companies.

Owner's Response: We're sorry you were disappointed! Our gracious neighbor is hired by us to make sure that our guests are well taken care of and comfortable. We had a large propane tank installed and we make sure that the fridge is turned on prior to guests arrival. A generator runs the home LED lights at night, and a deep cell battery (automatically recharges) runs the water pump throughout the home for care-free water supply. We also had a land line telephone installed, a beautiful new concrete driveway poured and a new carport built. It is beautiful and very ready for visitors now.

Great off-grid escape!

  • 5 of 5

When coming to explore Hawaii's gorgeous puna district my family was looking for volcanoes, hot pools, snorkeling, hiking and a great place to use as a base. The efficient layout and simplicity made meal preparation, showering, sleeping and getting ready for the next day easy. The rain pattering and the roof was just the right sound to make slumbering easy! Our two kids loved sleeping in the enclosed lanai listening to the frogs. If your into enjoying and exploring more than tv's and x-box's than this could be up your ally.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Lou for this awesome first review from our first guest! We're so happy you enjoyed your stay and found our home to be comfortable and accommodating. We think everyone should try off-grid to see how wonderful it really is, and you're right, the only thing missing is TV and X-box, which makes for a truly great escape. Thank you so much! You're welcome back anytime!

Relax in the sunshine during the day and enjoy nature at it's best. At night, listen to the jungle sounds of intense rain and the evening chorus of the local Coqui frogs ~ the first time you hear it, you'll think it's birds singing! Lovely.
