BED & BREAKFAST IN PIEDMONTE, CLOSE TO BAROLO AND ALBA

Alba Villa Rental Photos and Description

Two bedroom Villa with spectacular views in secluded position.

Villa Palmina, named after my husband's paternal Nonna, was built in the late 70's. Complete with its own vineyard of Dolcetto grapes, it was a must to buy when we toured Piemonte in 2005, searching for a property to be near our son and his wife who were already living near Torino. Not the tumledown stone building I had hoped for, but far more practical, and very soon became so much the home of our dreams that we wanted to share it with everyone. Thus began our foray into the bed and breakfast business. The villa has changed since 2005 when we signed and exchanged contracts. Alas the vineyard is no more, after producing wine for four years and fulfilling one of our dreams, this year we decided to grow lavender on a large scale, already this summer the scent was heavenly and the bees were delighted.Another project was the building of a swimming pool for our grandchildren. When we purchased the villa there were poultry houses and five old hens, who sometimes would lay eggs for us. The huts were quickly demolished and now form part of a rose garden and pond.On the groundfloor ofthe villa there is a wonderful tavernetta furnished with Welsh farmhouse antiques, brought with us when we came to Italy, where we entertain family and friends . There is also a utility room where guests can use the washing machine and ironing facilities. The first floor has its own entrance to a spacious lounge with TV etc, open fireplace, leather suite and chairs with ample comfortable seating.Double doors lead onto the terrace. Off the lounge is a corridor leading to the bathroom, complete with shower, washbasin and bidet.. Then there are two double bedrooms, fully furnished, one with doors onto the terrace, looking towards the mountains and the other with window onto the private gardens. All doors and window are fitted with fly screens.Off the corridor is also a door leading to a spiral staircase which takes one to a third large room, although not used as a bedroom this provides a wonderful play area during winter months or occasional wet spring time days.We have two family dogs and two cats, so anyone wishing to bring there pets would be more than welcome. The property is completely secured by fences. Children are also more than welcome and well catered for with various outdoor activities.

Suitability:
  • non smoking only
  • Low Allergen Environment
  • children welcome
  • wheelchair inaccessible
  • pets considered

Retirement in Piedmonte, after many years in catering , was meant to be idyllic, but we missed the contact with people and pampering to their needs. Hence, was born the idea of ‘Villa Palmina’ as a bed & breakfast. What pleasure it is giving us….using our expert knowledge of the area and my husband’s many years experience working in top class hotels and restaurants in Europe, it has been an all round success for ourselves and guests who visit us from all over the world.

Karel purchased this villa in 2005

The property was built in the late 1970s, and has all modern conveniences expected in the 21st century. The grounds are totally secure and have spectacular views over the Langhe Hills to the Alps and Monte Rosa towards Turin and south to the Alpi Marittime. Quiet and secluded but within easy access of shops, restaurants , wine bars, ice cream parlours and chocolate shop. Close to the sea and cities of Turin and Genoa it’s easy to have a very varied holiday for those not content to just visit local vineyards and sample their wines.

The very special grounds and lavender field offer various nooks and cranies to hide away and read, relax , listen to music or just admire the views. For guests with children there is the security of knowing they are in a safe place with adventure playground and hosts who have time to welcome them. Likewise guests arriving with dogs will also be more than welcome.

Lovely B&B

Lovely B&B

The accomodations were lovely and perfectly suited for our group of 3. Our hosts went out of their way to make our stay pleasant; they provided a variety of cheeses, meats, fruits and yoghurt for breakfast and they were a wealth of information about the area and the best places for dinner, sight-seeing, hiking. It was like visiting old friends. The house was immaculate and the grounds were amazing. Our picnic by the pool overlooking a valley and the hill town we hiked to was idyllic. The cooking lesson recommended by our hosts was fun, informative, and the food was so amazing.

A great stay with wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5
Our hosts went out of their way to make us comfortable at this lovely bed and breakfast. Every day started with fruit, yogurt, an assortment of cheese and meat and coffee! The view was spectacular and the surrounding restaurants. We were welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and our hosts were great about travel and food ideas to match our tastes. We really enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend the bed and breakfast as well as our hosts.

Wonder B&B

Wonder B&B

This is a most charming B & B with the best hosts in the area Filip and Karel. We were two couples and it was perfect for us. We were there in the fall and the weather was cool, but every evening when we arrived home there was a fire in the fireplace. One night we cooked our dinner in the kitchen with the truffle we purchased at the Alba festival. Breakfast daily was substantial fresh fruit, yogurt, meat, cheese, toast, we never left hungry. The restaurant recommendations were excellent. We even visited a chestnut festival in a small town on Karels recommendation. It is located in the best wine area in Italy
And all of it is convenient. I could go on and on about how wonderful everything was. I mustn't forget Toby the cutest golden in the world. This may have been a trip of a lifetime but if we are ever back this way again I know where I am staying.

We had a perfect holiday week in Villa Palmina. It´s a very lovely and quiet place to relax. In the area a lot of good restaurants and wineries.

We will remember the view from the swimming pool and the nice villa and garden.

Also a thanks to Karel and Filiberto for their hospitality - we look forward to visit them another time.

A perfect gem

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at 'Villa Palmina' for a week whilst attending a family wedding in La Morra. We had our 18 year old sons and 22 year old daughter with us.
The accomadation, pool, gardens and BBQ area are all superb The dogs Gloria and Biddy made it home from home for us
Karel and Filiberto were just the perfect hosts and so very kind and helpfull, we were able to see places we would never have found on our own.
The wine tasting at the Barolo vinyard will always be special and looking forward to drinking it!
Missing my breakfasts Karel!
See you again

Villa Palmina enjoys the most enviable position in the Langhe Hills, being 700m above sea level the views are amazing. On clear days the Alps are clear from the Marittime Alps to Monte Rosa in the north.Peace and tranquility abound. The grounds of the villa offer a safe haven in which to relax and absorb the perfumes of the lavender field and rose gardens or for children to play in the adventure park area. The position of the villa allows guests to make numerous short trips into the neighbouring vineyards and visit medieval hilltop villages enjoy local wines and cheeses. Walking is a delight following ancient 'sentiero' paths used by the partisans, during World War 2. Sighting of rare birds and wild animals is not unusual. Further afield one can visit Turin and her many royal palaces or a day by the sea on the beautiful Italian Riviera. Evenings can be spent in many of the local Osterie or Ristorante serving Piemontese foods, now famous for Slow Food Cooking. Or if you wish to stay at the villa, you may use the outdoor pizza oven and barbecue area.

Karel & Filiberto are always on hand to offer suggestions for excursions and if you wish guided tours of the area and vineyards.
