Notes: Guest accommodation is on the first floor with a private outside staircase (17 steps).You will always be very welcome in Fiona's kitchen for a cup of tea/glass of wine and a chat ! All three bedrooms have individually operated air conditioning available for an extra 5 euros per bedroom per day (this is due to the extremely expensive Italian electricity) if desired.There are mosquito nets on all the windows even though we do not suffer from many mosquitoes the nets do keep out any other insects and the cats too! - One day cookery courses can be organized at the house but must be booked with 4 weeks notice.and also a visit to a parmesan cheese factory and balsamic vinegar producer. New for 2008....a small pool for cooling off ( 4.5 metres diam, 1.2 m deep )...not olympic size but helps on a hot day!

This is a very interesting and yet unspoilt part of Italy. There are endless small towns to discover and of course Bologna is a must! We are down the road from Maranello which should ring a bell to any Ferrari fans or perhaps I could suggest the ceramic museum at Faenza - quite amazing. during the spring and summer months there are many local festas in the evening - if you fancy a taste of the real Italian life. For wine lovers this is an incredible spot for vineyards and of course the Vendemmia (grape harvesting) in September is very interesting. Ca Gioiosa has its own vineyard and just down the road there is a choice of 3 agriturismi (farm restaurants?) where you can still eat yourself silly for £16(5 courses including wine). In the recent years we have had many house hunters to stay as this area is ' taking off 'now that Tuscany and Umbria have been bought out. We are very happy to provide information to guests in their search for a house and even to show them around.

Other Activities: Table tennis and 3 bicycles are available. There is a 4 hole golf course just down the road that accepts visitors and a very nice private swimming pool.

We have stayed at Ca Gioiosa around 6 or 7 times now, since 2006. Every time we leave we cannot wait to be back again for another visit! The house and surrounding countryside are gorgeous - more rugged than Tuscany. We are currently searching for a property in the area and have booked to stay at Ca Gioiosa again this year. Fiona's house is very clean, tidy and comfortable and there is always something new to enjoy each time we go back!
We have previously taken friends with us and have enjoyed day trips out to Venice, Verona, Bologna, as well as other attractions closer to the house. You will need a car to get around, although if you are nervous of driving abroad you can just drive down to Bazzano (quiet non-scary road) and take the little local train from there into Bologna - and from there you can go just about anywhere in Italy!
There are some fantastic (and shockingly cheap!) restaurants close by, all of which Fiona can direct you to - nearby Montebudello is a firm favourite. There is also a large Carrefour supermarket 5/10 minutes away - for those essential items.
The views are beautiful and peaceful and if you need to get away from it all, send the kids out with Dad to see the Ferrari or Ducati Factories, sit with your feet in the pool on a hot day - the silence is amazing - grab a bottle of local vino from the Cantina in Bazzano and enjoy!

We had a great stay and Fiona was wonderful.

We rented all three rooms of the B&B so we had total privacy for our group of six adults. All three rooms had private bathrooms and were very clean. The kitchen area was very well equipped and well stocked to prepare meals.

We took advantage of the cooking class with Claudia and it was really a lot of fun. I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys cooking. When the class was all over we had a great meal. Fiona also prepared a meal for us one night. She is a very good cook and it was enjoyable to sit on the patio and have dinner.

The location is great. We took day trips to Milan, Venice, Bologna, Verona and Ravenna.

We really had a very enjoyable stay and it was all because of Fiona. She took care of all our needs such as reservations at restaurants, helping us shop for the cooking class and making recommendations of places to visit.
