THE PROPERTY AND LOCATION:
The house is located on Lakeshore Drive (on the Lake side of Lakeshore Dr) 5 miles south of the Saugatuck city limits.
This 1+ acre property boasts a beautiful view of an orchard and woods and is within 200 yds to Lake Michigan and a public lake access point (*water and beach access only). We are also within walking distance via beach or Lakeshore Drive to West Side County Park with a large public beach. **We are not located directly on Lake Michigan.
* The beach and access point are not owned or managed by Orchard Beach House, LLC.
On many days you can hear the roar of Lake Michigan from the house and property. There is plenty of room to roam and enjoy the wildlife including birds, wild turkeys, deer, rabbits, and so much more.
We are situated in an area that offers the privacy and quiet of being in the Lakeshore area, forests and wild preserves while still being a quick 5-20min drive to the downtowns of Saugatuck, Douglas, Fennville, Glenn, South Haven and Holland.
Enjoy games on the beautiful grassy lawns or a short stroll down a beautiful sandy, tree canopied lane (approximately one block) to a Lake Michigan access point.
The lake access is one of the only access points to Lake Michigan in the area without stairs! A rare and helpful find for young children, the elderly or disabled. The access point can be used to access miles of lakeshore to swim, fish, walk, run or even launch your kayak or rowboat (*** sorry, no access to launch large boats or lounge on the beach). Enjoy the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan!
Just a short stroll north along the shoreline is a public beach at West Side County Park. This beach can be used for sunbathing, games and activities. The park contains a very large (630 ft.) public beach, playground and grassy area, approximately 2/10ths of a mile north on Lakeshore Drive or via a short (approx. 10-15 minutes) beach walk.
The city limits of Saugatuck/Douglas can be reached in about 5 minutes drive and the downtown shopping district in approximately 10 minutes or less.
Holland and South Haven are about 20 minute drive either north to Holland or south to South Haven.
Shopping, dining, art galleries and culture abound in this area. Both towns are picturesque villages with many turn of the century homes and buildings hosting unique shops, gourmet dining, and many art venues including theater, music and the visual arts. Please visit the town website for more information. www.saugatuck.com
Kris and Romelio live in the northern Chicago suburbs. Mike and his three daughters reside in the western Chicago suburbs. We have owned Orchard Beach House since 2000. We enjoy relaxed weekend with friends and family near the shore of Lake Michigan.
Romelio Vargas purchased this house in 2000
We love Lake Michigan's beautiful white sand beaches, fresh air, wildlife, and wonderful art scene. We can get away from the busy big city life and come here for peace and quiet. When we need more town life, we simply drive 5 minutes away to Saugatuck or Douglas. As soon as we walk into our home, you can feel the stress melt away.
We have the best of everything that the area has to offer. We are a short stroll to the beach, about 5-10 minutes drive to the shops of Saugatuck and Douglas, and situated between several nature preserves. Our property is quiet, private but close to everything!
Our stay at this property was excellent and the decor of the property was excellent. It felt just like going into someone's home, which of course it was, but the prints on the wall and the books on the shelves made it feel just like home. My wife and I were celebrating an early 50th Anniversary with our son and daughter and their spouses and our 5 grandkids for a total of 11 people. It would have been nice to have had a 3rd bathroom in the basement level, but we got along fine without it. It was very close to the water, but you did have to walk about 5 minutes on private beaches to get to the public beach. You could also drive to the public beach and there was easy free parking, so once again, this was not a problem. Our grandkids enjoyed the large backyard with its wooden castle, swings, hammock and we all enjoyed the fire pit. Would I stay here again? Sure would if I ever go back to the area, but then that is why I prefer to use VRBO. That way I can go to another great area and yet another great home.
The house was as described. No bathroom with the basement bedrooms, which made for getting our family of 11 ready a little difficult. Backyard was well equipped for young children. Not having direct access to the beach was hard. The beach at the end of the lane is privately owned and the people staying in the houses directly on the beach were quick to remind us to stay off their property. Other than having to drive to get to a beach, the week was good and we will stay in Michigan again.
