Holiday in Bruges 2008

Steve and Uta St. Albans, England
Review Submitted: December 27, 2008 Date of Stay: April 2008
We had been meaning to visit Bruges for many years but what a wonderful surprise when we eventually got there this year (April 2008). Bruges is an absolute delight to visit and you never get tired of exploring the different parts of the city and admiring the wonderful buildings. But what made our break even more special was the accommodation at the Green Apple Cottage on a small farm just a few minutes drive from Bruges. The cottage is very spacious and everything you need for a holiday is included, even free use of computers in a very large separate games and computer room. Marc and his wife made us feel very welcome. There are lovely views of the countryside from the lounge and you are greeted by three sheep, three donkeys and a deer whenever you are in the cottage.
We liked this cottage so much that we went back for two more short breaks in June 2008 and in Sept. 2008.
We would certainly recommend the Green Apple Cottage to anyone who is looking for quality accommodation on a small farm where you are made really welcome. It is the ideal base to explore the surroundings and to come back to at the end of the day or to just relax if you don't feel like going out.
We are certainly looking forward to more visits to this place in 2009.
Steve and Uta

A Great Family Holiday

Fi15 Hertfordshire, England
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This property is within very easy reach of the channel tunnel and the directions provided were straightforward. We received a wonderful welcome and the owners spent a long time answering queries about places we wanted to go. Nothing was too much trouble and the advice we received saved us time and money later in the week. The farm itself is very peaceful and family friendly, with lots for our children to do, including go-karts, bikes, trampoline, paddling pool, play equipment and a large play barn. However they loved the animals best, particularly the donkeys which they could ride on, and the chickens who's eggs they could collect. When we could drag them away from the farm we were able to cycle to Damme on the wonderful cycle paths, visit Brugge (20mins away - park in the station car park and catch the free bus into town), drive to Ypres, Ghent and Ostende, catch the train to Brussels (combine your train ticket with entrance to attractions such as the Atomium and Mini Europe) and vist the lovely sandy beaches at De Haan and Knokke Heist. All your shopping needs can be met in the villages a short cycle ride from the farm and the cottage itself was clean, spacious and well equipped. We would have liked an oven, but the hob and combi microwave would probably meet most people's needs. All in all a great holiday and thoroughly recommended. This was our third visit and we would definitely like to go again

Perfect holiday

The Owens Oldham UK
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We stayed in Green Apple Cottage (our third visit in three years) for a fortnight in July 2009. The cottage is the perfect location for a family holiday: quiet, peaceful and with a wide range of activities available for children. Our daughter loves animals, and spent all her waking time stroking rabbits, riding donkeys and scouring the chickens for fresh-laid eggs for breakfast. The cottage also has an extensive indoor games facility, 24-hour broadband internet access and television (with all UK channels), as well as being fully-equipped with fridge/freezer, regular cooker, microwave and hob.

The property is immaculately clean and beautifully presented. No maintenance was necessary, but if anything does arise, the hosts are on hand at any time to help and advise. Customer service is as hands-on and as obliging as you could possibly wish for - the owners are around for anything you might need. Over the years they have provided transport to shops, allowed Elizabeth to 'help' looking after the animals, arranged riding lessons at a local stables, and generally been on hand with beer and advice - nothing is too much trouble.

The property is well-situated for access to cities (Bruges, Ghent), quaint smaller towns (Damme, Sluis) and coastal resorts like Blankenburg and Knokke-Heiste. There are city-centre attractions, beautiful beaches and child-friendly theme-parks, all within 30 minutes' drive. The Netherlands can be reached in 20-30 minutes if you fancy a change of scene. Food is good, with plenty of restaurants vying for your attention, seafood, chips, beer and chocolate being the most common attractions.

We would recommend this property without hesitation - for a family holiday you would struggle to find anything better. We have had a fantastic time three years running, and I'm sure we will be back again soon.

Holiday at Green Apple Cottage July 2008

Sherree and Rob England
Review Submitted: August 3, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
Green Apple Cottage had a charming, rustic character interior, which was part of a beautiful 19th Century Belgian Farmstead. On arrival we were impressed by the kindness and hospitality of the owner Marc. The accommodation was extremely spacious and the kitchen was fully equipped, it had a combination convection oven/microwave (no conventional oven). The kingsize four poster was lovely and all the matresses were very comfortable. There was shared use of an enormous computer/games room with games, puzzles, table tennis, Russian Snooker, table tennis and loads more. There were bicycles and cycle karts to suit everyone. The outdoor play area included a climbing frame and trampoline among other things. It also had a BBQ area.

As there was a lovely view from the lounge the owner provided an excellent pair of binoculars to scan the Belgian skyline and countryside. We saw owls, hares and a stork among other wildlife. Donkeys sheep and a deer are your immediate neighbours. Marc can arrange donkey-rides for small children if required.

We were sent lots of tourist information when we booked which included a DVD of Bruges. There were leaflets and booklets in the lounge as well. and some film DVDs and books to read. We found lots to do in the area and Bruges is absolutely beautiful.

Marc and Rika are owners who care about their guests and if you would like to visit Bruges we would recommend Green Apple Cottage.
