Situated in a protected nature reserve perched high on the cliffs and surrounded by forest, fynbos and ocean, these houses are the perfect getaway for those seeking peace and tranquility. Designed by multi-award winning architects, the houses blend perfectly with the surrounding landscape in a combination of light, glass, wood and space. Luxuriously and tastefully furnished, all rooms have beautiful views; watch whales and dolphins from the sea facing decks or bird watch from the fynbos deck. Fynbos or Cape Floral Kingdom boats the highest density of plants in the world and attracts a myriad of bird and animal life, which can be enjoyed from all areas of the houses. Enjoy numerous walking trails that wind through the nature reserve where wildlife including antelope, zebra, karakul, porcupine and bush pig roam. Ballots Bay where the river meets the sea, is a fisherman’s paradise and is perfect for exploring and foraging.
I spent a few days on the garden route and used this house as a ?base camp? and it?s probably the best base camp in the world. The location is great with a 20 min drive to George or Wilderness, but the essence of the place is its location within Ballots Heights on top of the cliff with uninterrupted sea views (which was awesome for a city boy like me!). Sally and Henry are fantastic hosts and it was useful to have them next door giving hints and tips (and to start the odd fire in the stove). My only regret was not having enough time... but it leaves a reason to go again!
